“Good Hotel but Cheated for Airport Pick up Car”
Reviewed 29 July 2011

I decided to stay here after read good reviews on tripadvisor. We booked hotel room n pick up services car. As they reply on email said they pick up with AC Indica car, but we were shocked they pick us up at airport with very small mini van without AC. We arrived hotel and just in front of hotel building there were travel agent and rent car counter that seem work together with this hotel. We booked again with more comfort car to go ranakpur n kumbalgarh for the next day. After we check in to hotel. It was quick and staff were helpfull. we had lake facing view room and hv a nice balcony, clean and also the bathroom. Our room was 204. The hot water wasnt working, as we feel hot n sweat from the non AC pick up car so we just had fresh shower. Also we hungry so after shower we go to the rooftop for dinner. The restaurant rooftop (Upre) was fresh design, relaxing and comfort with beautiful view of lake and city palace. There was a small pool and a couple swimming when i try to take some pics. We ordered local food call Jall maas, garlic nan n biryani, was delicious. The coctail like caprioska n cosmopolitan is ok, wasnt look red for cosmo but taste quiet good. As monsoon season, raining came during we enjoy dinner. The restaurant dont hv ceiling and we hv to move down to the restaurant near lobby. Well the staff again very helpfull and bring us all the food/drinks to lobby restaurant. After 20min the rain stop and we want to go back up to rooftop and drink more. 11.30pm we back to the room, so quiet n tranquil, we had a good sleep. The breakfast (american bfast) they give us full, per person 4toast and 3eggs omelet, mango juice n tea/coffee, very good to start our day. The trip to kumbalgarh n ranakpur was worth it, recomended if u visit Udaipur. Ranakpur jain temple is the most beautiful temple i ever seen. Back to hotel they fix the hot water n ask me to pouring water n wait for a while to make hot water flow. OK! The last evening we went to bagore ki haveli to see the local dance, were not as we expected. When we check out we complain about the car they picked us, and hotel staff seem missunderstood. As we need car to go back to airport, after a bit argue, we want the same car as they promised/writen at booking email. Finally they give the right car to bring us back to the airport. Overall, this heritage hotel actually good for its location, services and food. Just be aware for the cheating that we cant avoid like how they picked us at the airport.

I spent three nights at the hotel. had a great experience. the staff is extremely hospitable. The location of the hotel is very close to the lake, which gives great views, especially in the evening.

The rooms are very spacious (the balcony overlooking the lake is a double thumbs up). the food is great. Must try out the rooftop restaurant.

A well laid out hotel with beautiful views of the old town and city palace. The room we had was en-suite and quite adequate. The only downside was that the air-conditioning unit discharged wast hot air onto the beautiful bay balcony, which meant turning off the air conditioning if sitting on the private balcony. The roof top restaurant was good with views of the old town and city palace but was only open at night. For breakfast and lunch the ground floor restaurant was used, which is very pleasant but does not have the views. The old town and city palace are within walking distance and although cars can drive in the old town the roads are very narrow, a tuktuk makes a better mode of transport. The hotel itself is down a series of narrow lanes in an older part of the city and has no car park only a turning area in which to drop off passengers. There is a swimming pool but it is very small.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake view room.

I landed in the Venice of East at 6.30 am and went to Lake Pichola with serious doubts about me getting a room, even though I had a reservation because the Check in time 12 noon! and Lo behold the staff very gladly got a room cleaned and ready for me in 15 flat mins got my husband and me some nice hot masala tea while we waited and all this at no extra charge! Now that's what I call real hospitality where you feel welcome.. Because the best of places where I have stayed will always charge a half day if you want a room early... It shows the owner understands a harried traveler's sentiments...

The room was just as they described and nice and clean with all required facilities. They have wonderful rooftop restaurant and I think a lady chef who makes the most wonderful meals.. well cooked, the spices used just right and served with such warmth. Even the bartender was very nice and mixed my drinks to the way I wanted them to be... Even if you are not staying here do make it a point to try their rooftop restaurant. Oh and if you need any specific way things to be made they will do it!

They have a smallish garden with lovely birds flitting in and out makes the atmosphere heavenly :) The best part was the owner and his family personally asking us about our stay and having a wonderful conversation with us through which I was glad to realize that he and his wonderful family are giving their heart and soul into this place.

There are a lot of pros and cons of a place but what is more important is the hospitality which is just wonderful here. If you are traveling with a moderate budget come here to feel like royalty!

Oh and it has the most amazing views of the lake, city palace!! Location is just right for a lovely holiday as almost all sightseeing places are about 1-3 kms from this place.

Overall a good rooms, good food, great views!, great staff! Must Stay

I stayed with parents and a young kid for 3 nights in lake facing rooms .The view was awesome with Pichola full of water .The rooms were spacious enough with USP being the small individual balcony opening directly over the lake. The hotel a renovated Haveli had all the royal bearings with a huge reception area with antique chandeliers. The owner Mr CB Singh a descendent of the royal family and his graceful wife greeted us with warmth and met us twice during our stay and enquired about any difficulties or problems which we had none. When he came to know that I had a evening flight to Delhi he let me a room for another 3 hours .The rooms had all the basic modern amenities yet they had retained its heritage ambience. With a royal marriage around the corner and 2nd of March being Mahashivratri the opposite side of the lake was illuminated brightly and I could barely sleep whole of the night as I didnot want to miss this heavenly view. The rooftop restaurant had an awesome view of the whole city. The restaurant serves excellent food at very reasonable rates. The general cleanliness is excellent.I would strongly recommend this property to mid budget travellers.

All we had to do was make a reservation with the manager prior to our arrival for a particular type of room. On arrival, we were shown two available rooms, both with great views of the lake, the City Palace and the ghat across the lake. It was a second floor room, with a balcony jutting out over the lake. The balcony had a mattress, which is where I slept.
One thing to keep in mind; this is not your spit and polished, swanky, mid-city four point sheraton/four seasons/marriott, and I don't think it is the intention either. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and functional (all the things one would expect in a modern day hotel), if a little rough around the edges. There is a useful heater/air conditioning unit.
The manager is helpful in finding tourist destinations and options for travel (no tourist buses in mid-feb though).
The rooftop lakeside hotel has awesome views.

I ran into the proprieter/owner of this hotel on the rooftop (which also has a pool), who spoke with me briefly about the hotel's history and his plans for the hotel. He also helped me compose a great photograph.
The only real con was the shower. The hot water through the shower-head ran very weak.
