“Comfortable Stay but horrible approach road”
Reviewed 23 December 2013

I chose this hotel as I wanted to stay in a heritage hotel with lift facility. We stayed in a standard room (without lakeview) as rooms with lakeside view are costlier. Our room was spacious and both room and toilets were very clean. The room, corridor and reception room all are decorated nicely, specially the reception hall looks like Durbar Hall in any other palaces we have seen earlier. In the night the view from restaurant in terrace is amazing. Quality of food is good but over priced. The owner of the hotel met us and informed about aspects of the hotel which we asked them. So we felt homely there. But a serious problem is that they have very limited parking place and the area is very much copnjested. So if anyone goes there with car in peak season he may have problem. We also faced the same problem for one night.

Dear Guests,

We thank you for your kind review. It is kind of you to appreciate our standard room which has all the facilities required except the lake view. We are glad to know that you liked our decor in our public areas as well.

We are pleased to learn that you not only enjoyed a good meal at our "UPRE" restaurant but also you could enjoy the view. You have mentioned that the area is cunjusted but you see many tourist have appreciated that this area has the best view in the world hence the 400 years old lanes have to be used to reach such an area.

We stayed here for 3 days.

Location: Its location is good, facing lake pichola and walking distance to the City Palace, Jagdish Mandir and Bagore ki Haveli.

Rooms: I booked lake facing 2 rooms. Room is not very spacious but okay and there is a small balcony facing the lake. I liked it but 50% of space of balcony is occupied by Window AC unit but still I liked it sitting there and enjoying lake view. Bathroom is also okay. I am using word just okay as I expected more as per room rates.
Worst was that, when we entered the room and carpet of one of the room was so dirty. We even found dust particles on tables and chairs in the room. When asked for cleaning it then got such an ugly response from the room service staff

Food: We had lunch here on Day 1 when we arrived but it was a thumb down. Taste was okay but they took so much of time to get it. After one round of rotis, we were left to wait for another 5 minutes and when I looked at the bill, Gosh it was so costly.
1 Tea- Rs 75 + Taxes
3 Eggs – Rs 150 + Taxes
Suggestion is that don’t eat here at all.

Staff: People at reception are well mannered but lower staff needs to be given etiquette classes for behaving with the guests. One person who seems to be the incharge of room services was horrible. He don’t know how to deal in a service industry. We complained about him and related person in hotel acknowledged our complaint and even called that guy. I don’t know what action they have taken after that.

Service and Maintenance of this hotel needs a real upgrade.

Room Tip: You can plan for some other hotel which are not lake facing but provide better service. I guess inst...

Decided to stay at the hotel as my travel agent came up with this hotel as I had decided to meet my cousin and his family who were there for the week end and I decided to join them by driving down from Ahmadabad . I had to make several calls to the reception to locate the hotel but finally on reaching found out that there was no parking space available though I had been told that it was there . In the end I had to send my driver with the car to a Guest House 4 kms away from this hotel . Had arrived in time for lunch and the food was so so - nothing to write home about . Rooms were big and airy and could do better with some renovation . But the best thing was the lake views with an alcove and settee thoughtfully installed by the window . They have a nice roof top restaurant where you get an enchanting view of the lake and the lighted City Palce in the background . Staff were okay but could have been more helpful .

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the second floor on wards for the very best lake side views

Dear Guests,

We thank you for your review about our hotel. You have mentioned that our hotel does not have a car parking space which surprises us as we are a Government approved Heritage Hotel and they have in their norms minimum parking space for 10 cars which we do have.
Also in this present times where most of the mobiles have a GPS it is very easy to locate any place, however we also send a person to guide you in case you find it difficult.
It is very kind of you to appreciate our location, our big and airy rooms and also our roof top which gave you a sense of satisfaction.

Rooms: Spacious rooms (considering the lake side location where generally the hotels are cramped).
Location: Superb, just aside lake pichola, opposite the City Palace. Because of that you can just walk to see the City Palace, Jagdish Mandir and Bagore ki Haveli.
Food was good but exorbitantly costly (150/- for 3 eggs).

But hotel looked bit understaffed, for getting something cooked for my kid, I was told to go to the kitchen on ground floor to handover the stuff and then also bring back the cooked food.
Hotel staff was lingering around until you paid tip, and on one occasion openly asked for it :) come on folks, tip is a gesture of appreciation you cannot demand it.

Room Tip: Go for lake facing room.

Dear Guests,

We thank you for your valuable review about our hotel. Nice to know that you were satisfied with our lake side location. Also you were comfortable in your room which you found to be spacious.

Whenever we plan our menu we have to also keep in mind the overhead expenses which add to the making of any menu. However we shall surely keep in mind your suggestion about our food prises. We had some guests who wanted to cook personally for their small children hence our staff must have anticipated that you would personally see into your child's food as many children have their particular taste.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the staff who approached you for a tip.You see our world is full of different people of which some have greed for money and hence they behave accordingly. We have briefed our staff not to behave in this manner. We thank you for binging that to our notice.

We stayed at the Lake Pichola for 5 days and it was a comfortable stay. The rooms are small but the setting is amazing. All face the lake with the city palace view. There is small alcove near the windows facing the lake with beautiful views.
The furniture in the room is a bit run down and old. The bathroom is large but needs renovation specially the shower, the spout of which sprayed water all over.
The breakfast is served in the lobby and you can definitely skip it. The food is cold and so is the attitude of the servers.
We met the owners of the property on checkout, he was lovely well spoken man, I wish everyone the hotel were like him.
Recommend this place for the view, the restaurant (Upre) and the proximity from the city palace where you can walk to.
The exteriors of the hotel and the corridors are very traditional and well kept, the rooms need the same touch too.

Room Tip: Take the room on the 2nd floor because the boats passing during the day can practically see the insi...

Dear Guests,
We thank you for writing a review about our hotel. It is wonderful to learn that you spent five days with us which gives us the feeling that you were really satisfied to stay so long. Sir i am so surprised to know that you stayed five nights and did not bring the matter to our management or me to rectify your shower which does not take more than 30 minutes.

You have mentioned that the breakfast is served in our lobby. We have a restaurant on our ground floor and our this restaurant is named "Maharana" However if you found the food to be cold and also the attitude of the staff of the same caliber I shall surely look into the matter so it does not happen again.

Last but not the least can I request you to to let me know your name and in which room you stayed so I can check and get that renovated.I hope you help me so that the future guests do not face any such problems.

Hotel is nice, pleasant, cozy, staff very friendly. The view from the roof top restaurant is relaxing, inviting. So good to have a meal with such a beautiful view of Picchola Lake and the City Palace. I stayed in the standard room and I don't regret. Plenty of space, three single beds, clean and good bathroom, hot water all the time, complimentary shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer and other small items. Free bottle of water in the room. Good TV. Two inviting varandas sorrounding the room. Quiet! It is well worth the tariff! And Udaipur is so pleasant, with friendly people and the most fair prices of handcraft, clothes, shoes and arts that I found in India. A must to see in India!

Room Tip: You have to decide whether you want a lake view room. The standard rooms don't have lake view. I...

Dear Guests,

Many thanks for your wonderful review. We are glad to know that you found our place cozy and pleasant. You found our standard rooms to your satisfaction gives us more pleasure as we feel that these rooms cannot show you the lake but as far as comfort level is concerned we tried our best to make them worthwhile. Since all these rooms are heritage rooms they were always spacious and with one or two balconies each.

You could also avail of the services of our roof top restaurant UPRE and enjoyed your meal as well as splendid view of the lake which your standard room could not offer. Udaipur always is the first choice for all the tourist visiting Rajasthan and to know that you found the people of Udaipur very friendly and they are very fair in dealing with their articles in shops gives us the feeling they are living up the expectations of the tourist visiting this wonderful town.
