“Fabulous location, cozy rooms, and friendly staff”
Reviewed 3 February 2011

This fall my boyfriend and I took an extended vacation to India where we traveled for several weeks throughout the State of Rajasthan. During our travels we stayed at the Lake Pichola Hotel in Udaipur and it was by far one of the best hotels we stayed in throughout our entire trip. Our room sat right on the banks of Lake Pichola and overlooked the city skyline. The room came with a quaint little balcony that was enclosed and overlooked the water. It was the perfect place to watch the sunset! The hotel sits at the end of a street , in the heart of the old city district and is surrounded by shopping and restaurants. While you are very near all of the attractions Udaipur has to offer the hotel location offers a private getaway outside of the typical hustle and bustle of street traffic. The hotel itself has a rooftop restaurant which I never ate at but offered a beautiful view of the lake and the surrounding city. Every morning my boyfriend and I ate breakfast on the outdoor patio next to the water. The staff was very accommodating and always willing to help no matter the time of day. Lake Pichola is a family run hotel which made it all the more special, especially with the family photos that lined the hallways. It is a modest hotel, nothing overly fancy, very clean, complete with antique decor. One of the staff members told us they are planning to build a swimming pool on the roof! I would love to come back for that experience! My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay in Udaipur, a city not to be missed and hope to return again someday.

The rooms all have fabulous views of the lake, the City Palace and the city itself. But, their decor is very outdated. We never, EVER had hot water in the room. The food from room service was not good, and the staff at the front desk was always unhelpful to plain rude.

Lovely views from each room. the rooms were very clean and bathrooms too. the staff were very helpful. the location is good and we walked to the city palace for the tour and boat ride etc. the food was also pretty good and service decent. the views from the rooftop restaurant were amazing. lots of restaurants nearby and they all looked pretty good. overall a very romantic place to stay.

I stayed in Dec. 2010 for three nights and had a wonderful time starting from very nice food, very clean room with very comfortable beds, satisfying breakfast in the morning and overall service. I also met the owner who is from the royal family. He was very courteous and took me around to show the royal family pictures. The hotel is exactly what I wanted to stay at with a strong feeling of Rajathani heritage architecture. The hotel room had a great view of the lake and the city palace. The staff was very helpful and easy to deal with. Overall a nice and memorable experience.

A comfortable and pleasant stay. Dinner wasn't anything special, but the rooftop view makes up for it. Breakfast was again quite ordinary, but eating on the room's riverfront balcony more than compensated. Wireless Internet was available for 200 rupees for the length of the stay. The room I stayed in, at one end of the building, had an extra window overlooking an area where locals wash clothes and bathe, but because of the room's shape also had an entranceway with a wall adjoining what must be a hotel service area. The hotel would do well to better soundproof this wall.

We stayed there for one night during our Rajasthan tour in December 2010. Hotel is located directly next to the lake and offers a nice view towards the city palace from the roof top. We got a quite shabby room - they tried to quickly clean it when the showed it to us. We complained and got a new one which was a bit better. Unfortunately, there was no hot water in the morning - so shower was cancelled. Restaurant offers good food a t reasonable prices. Breakfast is standard - but good.

If you ever are headed to Udaipur, then you should stay at the Lake Pichola! My stay was the most memerable, while traveling for the first time in India. Excellent service provided by a very friendly staff. Located right on the Lake, as well as a Heritage property. Just steps away from the action. Also, check out their restaurant 1559 AMAZAING! You cannot go wrong with this family run operation. Cheers Arjun!
