We booked into the Udai Suite at Udai Kothi for two nights for our birthday and thought it was wonderful (especially for the price, around 140 Euros a night!) We had two floors, our own roof terrace with a jacuzzi and a swimming pool at the bottom of the bed. The view from the roof terrace over Lake Pichola is wonderful too.

Udai Kothi markets itself as a boutique hotel - the pool area is nice and the service was always friendly, but I don't know what the other rooms are like for the money. I'd advise splash out a little and have a great experience.

We've got photos up on our blog: http://alongnicewalk.tumblr.com/post/12732721259

Thank also to the staff at Udai Kothi who brought us up a cake on our birthday!

Our first room at the back of the old part of the hotel was musty and a bit scruffy. We asked to change and this was arranged with some bad grace BUT it was a lovely suite at the front with interesting furniture and little alcoves and a 4 poster bed. The hotel suffers from a lot of people checking in and out and the pool on the roof was crowded the day we were there. Breakfast was a good buffet spread but didn't get any warmth from the staff. Mixed feelings therefore.

Room Tip: Check the room before signing in.

We had spend two nights in this hotel. First one, they put us in the far far back, in one smelly room that actually was "occupied" by the owner's son, something like that! there were clothes in the closet and personnal decoration as well. We ask for a "real" room. But no vacancies! Next day they shift us in another room with view on the mess (they actually do some work in the garden, and build an extra space outside! The food is alright but the waiter was very pushy to make us leave quickly, I guess he needed the place for other people, but that's not very nice to have dinner this way. It ruins the pleasure of being by the pool. Breakfast is extra charged 400 roupies. I had to almost fight to get a discount.. which was very low!
I guess you can find MUCH BETTER in Udaipur. For this price which is not that low for India!

Room Tip: in the Main building

This place is fantastic - it's a modern hotel built in traditional style with lots of charming detail - local brass, textiles etc.
We stayed in their top of the range suite with its own pool & Jacuzzi which was really special. We saw other suites and were impressed with the décor and cleanliness. The owner is very hands-on and ensures the standards are being maintained and that you are enjoying your stay. They are in the process of expanding and we would like to go back when the new wing is complete. Thank you to Daisy & all the staff. :-)

We stayed two nights at the Udai Kothi in November. Staff greeted us upon arrival with a flower lei and lemonade. Very friendly staff. We had a room overlooking Lake Pichola. It was very nice, clean and comfortable. Wi-fi access is included which is appreciated. They have a roof top restaurant and pool. Food was delicious. Loved their lentil soup (Mulligatawny). Breakfast was included with the room. A small buffet of local dishes, ceral, fruit, breads and eggs made to order.
We did use the spa as we had free time. It not your typical spa environment so would not recommend it. It was loud and hard to relax. Staff was pleasant.
Was awoken early with a near by call to prayer at sunrise each morning.

perfect location in the middle of old udaipur. Not so ease to find this hotel if you are not Indian driver. Impresive first view - 8 years old hotel with CityPalace facade. Check-in done by guide and receptionists quite promptly. Lift is very small (only for 3 persons) but your baggage will be carried to the room by bell boys. Airconditioning and fans in the rooms with chrming old fashioned indian furniture. Free of charge wifi. From room perfect view in the goats in innner courtyard. But undoubtly REALLY perfect view from the top tarrace on the Pichola Lake and City Palace. Swimming pool on the roof is added value.
Quite good service (I asked to prepere breakfast at 6:15 while the standard is 7-00 and it was ready)

We stayed in a suite on an upper floor with a great view of Pichola Lake. The rooms were comfortably large with marble floors and bowls of fresh flower petals. The bathroom had a nice rainfall shower but hot water was only available in the A.M. before 10:00 and in the late afternoon/evening. We arrived by train from Delhi in the morning and by the time we got to the hotel there was no more hot water. Two calls to the reception desk finally got it turned on....from somewhere. Breakfast includes a nice selection of fruit, cereal, pastry, cooked to order eggs etc but the service is slow. The pool and outside dining area on the roof top is especially lovely at night.....we were there during Diwali and it was nothing short of spectacular. But we did find the service to once again be very slow....I mean waiting 25 minutes for a brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream is a bit unreasonable. I would suggest Abrai which is just around the corner as a great and reasonable alternative to dining at the hotel. Be sure to stop in and say "hi" to Naveen who has the small jewelry shop in the hotel. He has lovely things and great prices.
