We stayed in Palace Lake Suite room but for seeing the lake you had to strecht the neck on a lateral window. If you wish a view of the lake, this hotel is probably not the right one. But location is pretty good, sufficiently outside the buzzing city but at a few minutes walking in a charming neighborhood. Room was fine, although we had to walk four storeys up and down (they are installing an elevator). Dinner in the terrace quite good with great view, but slow. A good alternative at a reasonable price.

We stayed 2 nights in this hotel, it has some nice touches such as fresh flowers everywhere and traditional ornaments in the corridors. The room had a large 4 poster bed, but was not well arranged, there was no where to sit and watch the television as the curtains on the bed obscured the view. The narrow corridor in the room was the area to change etc, not really practical. There was a very small turret room with some cushions on the floor, but with my poorly knees I could not use these. I did ask at reception if they could provide me with a comfortable chair for this room , they said they would look into it but we never heard. The smell from the broken sewage pipe at the front is still there. The breakfast area is very cramped and no room to move, the pool on the roof has pigeon droppings floating in it. Location of the hotel is very central.

We stayed in Udai Kothi for 2 nights, reserving the Udai Suite through booking.com 4 months in advance.

The room matched most of our expectations based on their website and reviews here on TA, and expectedly, we were also impressed. The Udai Suite is easily one of the most atmospheric rooms we've stayed at in Rajasthan, it was indulgent in space, furnishings and view, and tastefully appointed. Currently (because there is a lot of construction in the complex), the suite is one of its kind in the hotel; it is a 2-storey suite with the bedroom, plunge pool, lovely indoor lounging space and bathroom in the lower floor; while upstairs, the dining area opens into a private terrace with your own chattri and jacuzzi. The terrace offers sweeping views of Lake Pichola, Lal Ghat, City Palace and Lake Palace (the latter partially obstructed by trees), but views can also be enjoyed even in the lower floor, including the bedroom and bathroom. Very well done. This is a great option for honeymoons, special occasions, or just chilling out and taking in the relaxed vibe of Udaipur.

In the early evening, they come to the suite to set tealights and petal bowls by the plunge pool and jacuzzi, providing a lovely ambiance. A perfect setting to enjoy sunsets in Udaipur.

Some details of the room amenities:
- The bed was firm but fine for us and gave us a comfortable sleep.
- Flatscreen TV with mostly Indian channels and several channels we were interested in but the hotel was not subscribed to, we were only able to catch a movie or two on the first night, it was all Animal Planet from there! A quick improvement here would be to include a tv guide for guests to prevent aimless channel flipping.
- There is a DVD player which was unused. Would be great if the hotel provided a copy of the James Bond - Octopusy.
- Safe is of good size and accommodated a laptop, DSLR and extra lens.
- Closet is small but there is a bench for luggage which was sufficient
- Coffee and tea making facilities, bottled water were available and were all refilled during room cleaning. There were also light cookies served upon arrival, and a cookie jar next to the coffee/tea upstairs.
- Note that the suite has no wheelchair access as it can only be entered using a spiral staircase from the restaurant.
- The rain shower in the bathroom only had moderate pressure and took a few minutes to run before it got warm. Toiletries were provided.
- Free wifi which occasionally reached the room but of variable strength.

The room was just great, all it was advertised to be! Unfortunately the staff and service was not great, like the experiences shared by many other TA members who have reviewed Hotel Udai Kothi.

Our T&C with booking.com clearly excluded us from the hotel's Christmas gala dinner (R3500+10% per person), however we were still informed at check-in that we had to take this mandatory dinner and that booking.com T&C were wrong and didn't apply. That was a first for us, as we use booking.com quite regularly and have not had a hotel disregard the T&C of our reservations made through there website before.

As the Udai Suite has a private dining area, we really wanted to enjoy our meal there, instead of being forced to take a gala dinner in the hotel restaurant. Front desk then assured us this would still be possible, that we may instead have our choices from the gala dinner buffet sent up to the suite so we could dine privately. However, all was forgotten by dinner time and this wasn't made available to us in the end, a frustrating bit of lip-service it seemed. Anyway during this gala dinner we were able to sample the dishes served up in their restaurant. Little else stood out for us except for the Udai Kothi chicken curry, which we thought to be very good and quite tasty.

So sadly, as much as we loved the room, the same cannot be said about the staff and service, which was consistent with criticisms on previous TA reviews. To mention a few more: while check in time is 12noon, our room was not ready until 1.30pm. As we were made to wait, the receptionist indifferently instructed us to "go upstairs and have lunch." Further, one morning, we found dinner plates from the night before occupying our spiral staircase, obstructing the exit from our suite (despite being in plain sight of the restaurant no more than a few meters away and despite the fact that they managed to deliver a newspaper under our suite door that same morning). Dished remained for sometime, until we cleared them ourselves so that we could leave our suite. Also, we stepped out of the hotel for about half an hour on the 2nd evening, and despite clearly expressing our intention to use our private jacuzzi upon our return, we still discovered that they'd come up to our Suite and turned it off while we were out.

We were under the impression that staff were either untrained or indifferent, while complaints, though heard, were not listened to or acted upon during our entire stay.

Will we come back? Perhaps to stay again in the Udai Suite as the room is fantastic, but outside of the holidays to avoid the mandatory gala dinner which clearly lessened the experience. Sadly though, the service received from staff makes it difficult to support this business again.

Room Tip: When booking through booking.com, the Udai Suite is called "King Suite." By the way there...

I saw little of this hotel outside my room and the bathroom. I and several others in my group got a severe dose of food poisoning while staying here. Apparently it doesn't always happen but that it happened at all I will never stay here again.

The smell of sewerage at the front entrance was probably a sign...

I agree with others that the staff are generally unhelpful and disorganised, the pigeons in the swimming pool, the noise on the second floor from the pool and the dining area, .....

Don't bother!!

I was really impressed with this hotel. I thought it just had the most amazing finishing touches throughout. Beautiful rooms, staff were extra friendly. Food was amazing, and the view from the roof top restaurant is just amazing. I would highly recommend from my experience!

We transferred to this hotel at very short notice after our arrival in Udaipur. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the reception staff nap provided with a refreshing cold drink. The room type we had selected was not available for the 1st night of our 2 night stopover and we offered a free upgrade to the Udai Suite located on the roof of the hotel. We were blown away by the facilities this room offered; including a pool in the bedroom and a jacuzzi on the roof top private terrace. The views were amazing over Lake Pichola. There is quite a lot of building work going on adjacent to the hotel but we did not find this intrusive as we were out of the hotel for much of the day.
The roof top restaurant was excellent although chilly for the time of year. At night the terrace is beautifully lit and patio heaters were provided making the dining experience with great views over the lake very acceptable. Breakfast can be taken in the Breakfast Room or on the terrace by the swimming pool. The selection was very good. Omelettes, fried and scrambled eggs were freshly prepared to order.
The staff were very pleasant and extremely accommodating. We would recommend this hotel which is located on the quiet side of the lake away from the hustle of the main tourist area of Udaipur. You can walk from the hotel into the main area in 10 minutes via the foot bridge. The hotel also have access to a motor boat for trips on Lake Pichola. Take this trip in the late afternoon or early evening for the best photograhs of he palace buildings.

My fiancée and I had a lovely stay at the Udaipur Kothi. We found our first floor room quite cozy and charming. We also found the staff to be attentive and friendly, which has not always been the case during our stay in India.

Some random notes and concerns in no particular order:
1) Bottled water was not provided after the first day. This was our only hotel in india where that was the case.
2) The open sewer smell from the gutter at the foot of the driveway was definitely a bummer.
3) Breakfast bar was the largest we found in India by far and it was well-stocked.
4) It was too cool to swim during our stay but we were entertained by the pigeons drinking nearly constantly from the pool.
5) There is a mosque nearby with a loud call to prayer; might be an issue if you're a light sleeper who wants to sleep in. There is also a Hindu temple that broadcasts a chant at sunset (and of course the mosque's call is also going at this time). It can be a bit jarring.
