We had a driver who kept pestering us to change our booking to another hotel, I am so glad we didn't take his advice. What a charming hotel.

One drives through narrow streets, with so much character to the hotel. We arrived on the eve of diwali to a wonderful welcome. The hotel is beautifully decorated keeping to the region. the hotel has so much character compared to other 5 star establishments. The views from the roof top is stunning. The staff were very polite, obliging and always service with a smile. I fell ill during my stay and the manageress was so kind and checking up on me, even sent me muffins to pep me up. I am surprised that it's not in the top ten rating for hotels in udaipur. A very memorable stay.

My camera was ready always to click pictures of the interesting streets.

If you want to enjoy the real Udaipur, this is the place to be....an awesome experience for me and my family. The hotel is situated inside the city hence you need to traverse some narrow lanes to reach there but that just adds to the experience of seeing the various aspects of udaipur. We stayed in Suite 6 which had a view to the Pichola lake...there are some local buildings around which obstruct the view to some extent but you can still see the lake quite clearly. The rooms are well sized and the bathroom was huge. They have a small garden in the hotel.

The hotel is situated close to the Pichola lake and you can see the City Palace and Jagdish temple across the lake, i think its called Hanuman ghat. In the evenings you can see bhajan groups singing in the temples across the lake, it's an experience not to be missed. You can cross over to the other side by crossing a bridge across the river, its close by to the hotel.

The hotel staff is super friendly & eager to help. The housekeeping was great, we left behind a very expensive earring and they handed it over to the front desk promptly.. by the time we realized it, we were half way to the airport. They kept the earrings in safe custody and handed over to our friends in udaipur.....honesty at its best !! Kudos to them and Neelam, the GM.

The owner Bhuvaneshwari (hope I got her name correct) is an extremely friendly person and treats you like her friends, personally ensuring the visit is well taken care of. So does Neelam, the GM, who manages the hotel.

The swimming pool & dining area is on the top floor, overlooking the lake. It was quite cool hence swimming was out of question. The weather was very pleasant during our stay there.

General Info:

Rickshaws are expensive and if you can arrange local car transportation, it's recommended. Very friendly though, saw a lot of foreigners roaming in the rickshaws though. Do not try "all india car rental" company, we had a driver with an attitude who literally spoiled our mood. When I called to complain, the local emergency number provided was not attended to. We had to complain to our travel agent in Delhi (packagewale.com) who heard us out but also didn't bother to call back and check if we were ok.

Visit the local areas of Sahelion ki bagh (a nice garden), shilp gram, fateh lake, city palace, jagdish temple etc. The area around the hotel has many shops around. Check out the miniature paintings, real cute stuff.

Room Tip: Check out the rooms on top floors to get a view of the lake

We stayed here with a small tour group and what a joy it was. The walk thru the lane ways from our bus gave us a look and feel of the area. Upon arrival at hotel we welcomed with a nice cool drink. Our room was extremely large and the bathroom was wonderful. Lots of marble and lovely little finishing touches. Great position, really enjoyed the walk around with lots to see and do. The roof top eating was lovely with a little view of the water (it is not on the lake). Breakfast nice and sitting out around the pool/dining area in the morning was pleasant. The only problem I found is there was not a window to open in our room, which i find very claustrophobic, plenty of light through the tinted windows but you could not see out, but it did not stop us from enjoying everything else about this hotel.

Once you find it on a spit of land just a short stroll from the old city of Udaipur this modern hotel, which is beautifully furnished, is a haven two minutes from Pichola Lake and with an awesome and well earned reputation for guest comfort. Our suite was ideal, overlooking the lake and worth the climb up 38 steps after a short walk through an enclosed garden. The rooftop swimming pool and the romantic setting on the roof terrace restaurant was an added delight, with a mouthwatering choice of well cooked and presented food. One of the owners was constantly on site and she was charming and helpful, although the hotel could do with providing more written information for guests, such as a better description of facilities, meal times etc. At present there are no public toilets in or near the lobby but a new block is being built and the owner told us that these are being attended to within the latest development. One great extra was a trip round the lake and the famous "floating hotel" on the Udai Kothi's own boat, which sets sail from its private jetty just one minute's walk from its front steps.

Room Tip: Pick a room in the block served with a lift.

Normally we stay in 5 star hotels, but This is a great value for money hotel! The staff is super friendly, the location is great and the rooms are clean. I forgot 400 euros in the room, they returned it to me. Very nice romantic, cute touches everywhere. Highly recommend this location especially considering the large amount of relatively expensive hotels in Udaipur.
