Room was Amazing and what a view of Lake Pichola !!
Staff are amazing and always had smile on there face
I wasn't asked which Room am i staying in however i was treated like a MAHARAJA from each and every staff of the Hotel.
Room service is Amazing.
Rooms offered are way better then some 5stars i have stayed in.
each and every thing in room to the property has being given high priority in terms of detailing.
Really Authentic and Classy.
Staff name Neelam was always around and seem like a Magician,be it on a Roof Top Restaurant to Front Desk she knew some Private passage to be present everywhere with a lovely smile and and answer your Query with a Smile and make your feel like Home.
Food Quality is very Nice be it A la carte under Canopy overlooking Lake or Buffet Breakfast.

I would rate Udai Kothi a three star if not for their unprofessional service and a general attitude of miserliness and money grabbing that we found in all their dealings.
First the good points:
1. Location: Very good right in the heart of the old city of Udaipur, 100 meters from the Lake Pichola (lake is visible from some of the rooms), walking distance to all the attractions around lake Pichola.
2. Rooms: we stayed in the lake facing suite and it was beautiful.Rooms are clean, spacious, and comfortable.
3. Style: The hotel is not a heritage property but yet quite stylish, and filled with beautiful antique looking quaint objects d' art.
4. The restaurant near the rooftop pool: Beautiful ambiance with great niches where one can sit on low mattresses (check pictures) and have a great view of Udaipur. The service at the restaurant was much better than the rest of the hotel. We did not sample the other meals but found the breakfast quite okay.

Besides all the above positives this is why we would never stay at the hotel again:
1. Service: The hotels seems to be run not by professionals but by general sycophants of the owners who each will subtly ask you to write a good word about then so "their jobs are safe" .
2. The treatment towards guests varies a lot and that attitude starts form the girl managing the hotel and reception. While we were being served at the restaurant she asked the resturan manage to give "special treatment to guests in certain rooms as they were VVIPs". This loudly in our hearing (we were obviously not vvip guests for them).
3. Every day we asked for a wake up call which was never given. Do not bank on them to wake you up for an early flight as their excuse is that "they forgot".
4. At least 4 times we found staff members arguing loudly among each other in the common areas of the hotel. Having guests around made no difference whatsoever...The the girl managing the hotel was involved in two of these arguments.
5. The hotel was trying to charge a compulsory 7000 Rs per person for a Christmas dinner that we did not want to attend. This is higher than the rate charged by most five star hotels.
6. We were shifting to lake Pichola hotel which is next door to Udai Kothi and requested them to drop our luggage right next door. They refused after agreeing to initially. As it was less than 25 steps we just walked across with our luggage but as we had small children with us, this left a very bad feeling about the attitude of the hotel.
7. The hotel shuts down the boiler from 10 AM-2 PM and you cannot have any hot water during this time. In winters this is really unacceptable. As we had checked in at 12 noon after an overnight train journey we requested them to give us warm water , but they refused. Ever after 2 PM they often do not switch on hot water unless you make 2-3 calls to them as reminders. This was a shock to us considering the rate being charged for the room (about 8000 Rs per night).
8. The boy at the travel desk is either never there, or always busy chatting or typing on his cell phone and refuses to make eye contact with any of the guests. We were also were witness to an argument between him and the reception guy for the same reason.
9. The reception people shut the electricity of your room as soon as step out....if by any chance you have to go back in, you find no electricity and have to call them to switch it on.
9. Ranbir sing who operates the boat ride was a gem, very friendly and informative and we had a great time with him at the boat ride. When we mentioned this at the reception, they instead made wise cracks putting him down...quite unprofessional and shocking for us!!

Due to all these reasons the staff came across as untrained, and worse, unfriendly and discriminatory and thus we would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Oh Lake Pichola hotel right next door, was an amazing experience and quite made up for the not so satisfactory experience we had here.

Room Tip: Choose lake facing suites but do not expect an uninterrupted Lake view as the hotel is not right on...

Dear Guest,

Greetings from Udai Kothi!!!

I am writing to you regarding your recent visit to Udai Kothi. On behalf of the team, I thank you for sparing your valuable time to share your feedback.

1). We usually request our guest to write on trip advisor as we would like to know the feedback, some guest do tells us our shortfalls during their stay and we try to resolve them. Its much more easy for us to rectify our mistakes whilst their stay.
2). We treat all our guest the same there is never any discrimination done, as in Udai Kothi each and every guest is VIP and is treated equally.
3). We apologize for inconvience caused to you'll, as wake up call was not given during your stay.
4). Christmas eve the hotel has gala dinner which is mandatory, its not excessive charging as its a policy in all the hotels they follow, when you reserve rooms during X'mas or New Year eves gala dinners are mandatory. However we do not force our in house guest.
5).We have certain hotel policies that we have to follow and the staff as well, we do not allow our staff to go out of the hotel premises.
6) There is no hot water issue at our hotel, due to energy conservation we have the boiler set on auto cut, however when guest do request the boiler is switched on immediately. There is hot water at all given times.

We at Udai Kothi strive hard to meet our guest expectations. Give us another chance and shall certainly try to meet upto your expectations.

Warm regards

We stayed in a Super Deluxe room, which was just that - four poster bed, lake view, beautiful furnishings, window alcoves. We stayed for New Year and the hotel layed on a good new year party with a tasty buffet and a mixed Indian-western musical evening including a disco with DJ for dancing. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. The only down side was that the TV had only 1 or 2 English channels, which were barely visible given the poor picture; the Wifi was not working for our whole 3-day stay (allegedly due to monkeys tampering with the wifi point), and the hot tap in the sink did not work (though plenty of hot water in the shower). We had stayed in cheaper hotels during our visit and usually these kind of facilities worked fine - Udai Kothi needs to work on this. Having said that, we would still recommend the hotel as it is really beautiful and unique, and the roof-top pool looks amazing.

Room Tip: Worth spending the extra for super deluxe with a lake view, which are also quieter as parties etc g...

Clean rooms and bathroom, good shower and food is also good, though some hits and misses (big hit; fish signature dish, miss: spaghetti, overcooked and bad sauce). Loved the pool area and evening dining area, really great atmosphere. We asked for a quiet room and were given #102. That is definitely NOT a quiet room, the personnel door is across the room and literally opens (and shuts with a bang, amplified by the stone floors and walls) every 2 minutes, day and night. Helpful staff.

This hotel was fine. The room was large and clean, the grounds pretty and well maintained. The owners who staff the front desk are not overly helpful or knowledgeable ( though the staff was friendly). When we were shown our room (on the first floor, right next to construction) I asked for a higher floor and was told this was the best room they had - which I sincerely doubt based on the numbers of people we saw coming in and out. Breakfast got such poor reviews on trip advisor that we didn't even try it - went instead to the Amet Haveli just down the road. I would have preferred to stay there as the rooms have lake views and the restaurant, which also serves lunch and dinner, was quite good.

The location (of this and Amet) is over the bridge and facing the heart of the city and palace. It is a short (10minute) stroll to the center of town, but nice to stay a little removed from it.

All in all, it was adequate, but not great.

The rooms that were allocated to you'll were super deluxe garden facing rooms, these are certainly our good rooms big and spacious rooms, i agree this wing is next to the new wing, however the construction has been stopped during season. There is a garden view from these rooms, over looking the fountain.
Our Chef aims to satisfy every palate with the very best of International and Indian Cuisine, the breakfast served is with a large variety of continental and Indian.
