Just spent 3 nights and very thankful to my friend who had recommended. Great location, clean, value for money. We were upgraded to a suite which was located on the third floor in the block with no lift but this made no difference. Had a view of the lake and City Palace, although a building blocks the full view. Welcome staff was good. The breakfast spread was good - different spread on each of the 3 days. However, I thought that the food quality could improve which will only add to the comfort.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a lake view.

We planned a trip to Udaipur on our first anniversary, and on the suggestion of a friend (who unfortunately could not manage a booking herself when she had visited the city), booked this property for 4 nights. It was a delightful stay on the whole, with mostly hits and a few misses mentioned below:

Hits:
1. We got a great deal through Booking.com and booked a super-deluxe room. When we checked-in, we were pleasantly surprised to know that we had been upgraded to a suite for the entire duration. What a great start to our trip!
2. The property has an old-world palatial charm, and makes you feel like you have gone back in time. There are beautiful paintings, carvings everywhere which present beautiful photography opportunities.
3. The suite and the bathroom were huge. We did not have to bother about tripping over our luggage, or organising our things. Also, housekeeping would decorate rose petals around everyday.
4. The roof-top terrace and pool are to-die-for!
5. The best thing about the property was the manager's 4-year old son Manav. He would adorably intermingle with all the guests and I would like to believe that he took a special liking towards me. Of course it was mutual!

Misses:
1. Although the bathroom area was huge, the toilet cubicle was a little too small (and inconvenient for my 6 feet tall husband)!
2. The breakfast buffet had good variety, but I felt that the kitchen-prepared items (like cutlets, poha etc) lacked taste.
3. The light in the suite was too dim and yellow. It made any reading impossible.
4. We heard the staff fighting a couple of times, and even hurling allegations at each other, which obviously doesn't give a good impression to guests.
5. Though they had mentioned that the check-in happens around 11 am / 12 pm, we were expecting to be accommodated after landing from our early-morning flight at 8 am. The wait was a torture. Other people also kept queuing-up. Some even had infants. But given the small size of the property and the peak season, guess this could not be helped by the staff.

On-the-whole, it was a lovely experience. I do hope to return one day, and pamper myself in the Udai suite! :)

If you stay anywhere in India, this is the one place to head for. A new hotel but furnished in an older style with fantastic attention to detail. A room top restaurant and swimming pool sets this hotel apart from anything else. Staff very helpful although the layout of the restaurant could be better.

We stayed in room 401 for two nights and found the hotel to be excellent and the most luxurious we have stayed in on this trip around Rajasthan. Our room was on the ground floor facing the well appointed garden. It had a seemingly never ending supply of hot water which was just as we'll considering the size of the marble bath. The shower was just as good. The staff are very attentive to detail with flowers around the place being replaced daily. It has a lovely rooftop restaurant with views to the lake, although somewhat interrupted partly by their own extension building. We had read previous reviews about the poor food in the restaurant but decided to try it. I must say the first night we were disappointed as the food was bland. However on the second night I spoke to the waiter to ensure my dish was spicier. He explained that they tone down their dishes for western pallets and I think they sometimes overdo this, especially for curry lovers, but I accept it is difficult to achieve a balance. My second meal was lovely and the service first class. Checkout is 10.00 and our flight not till 21.00. They have agreed to store our baggage and are letting us use the hotel facilities at no extra charge until we leave. I am writing this from the hotel garden. This hotel was a great way for us to end our India trip. I would recommend this hotel to anyone as it has a lift for anyone with walking issues and is a short walk into the main town.

We stayed at the Udai Kothi as part of a Transindus tour of Rajasthan. If you look at the website you see a charming building with lush gardens. In fact a lot of the gardens have been built over with a new extension - another building is in progress. The owners would have been better advised to improve the hotel they had before starting new building. The room we were first assigned looked as if it had not been decorated since the 1970s. We expressed our disappointment and, to be fair, were moved for our 2nd night there. The second room was much better - although the bathroom was much the same and in need of improvement. The much vaunted rooftop view to the Lake Palace is ruined by the building work.

Dear Guest,

Greetings from Udai Kothi!!!

I regret to note your disappointment with your stay at the hotel. Our hotel is the reflection of the rich heritage of Mewar, designed with Rajasthani architecture, which is the charm of Udaipur. We do have our other suite rooms which are huge and modern but at the same time have the heritage interiors, as Udaipur is well known for its art and culture.

We are coming up with a new wing shortly, however there is no construction happening at this period of time. We apologize for the inconvenience caused due to the site.

Hope you give us another chance in future and i assure you of the best of our hospitality.

We stayed at Udai Kothi for 3 nights in Jan 2014.We had booked a Suite for ourself.
The Suite was very well done up, elegant and tasteful interiors and plenty of toiletries. The Suite comprises of a sitting area (with T.V,fridge, kettle, sofas etc),followed by a nice bedroom ,then a dressing room and finally a huge toilet.Everything was very clean and the staff members were very polite and helpful. The bed itself was very comfortable and the sleep quality was excellent.
Contrary to many previous reviews, we did not find any shortage of hot water in the bathroom at any time.
The hotel has nice small lawns which are very well kept and chairs have been kept there to sit and enjoy the sun.
We had Bfast and Dinner at the roof top restaurant on all 3 days.the bfast spread is basic but they try to give a mix of Indian and Continental.
the dinner was buffet on 1 night and a-la-cart on 2 nights.the buffet was just average but the staff were more than willing to get us some other items from the menu (at no extra charges). The rotis/naan were fresh and served hot at the table.
Overall,i would say that the u.s.p. of this property is the polite and smiling staff.
Right from the reception to the housekeeping to the restaurant ,even the gardener greets you with a "namaste" and a smile.
We got a lovely cake from the management on our wedding anniversary. That night they had made arrangements for our dinner in the private canopy.Lots of flowers had been used to decorate that area and we were made to feel special.
This review can not be complete without a big thanks to their G.M.--Neelam.
She is always around to answer any number of queries while keeping an eye on the staff performance.
Thanks Udai Kothi,Neelam and the entire team for making it a memorable trip for us.!!
