I think the quality of a hotel must be judged on the sincere care and attention the owner's put towards their business. Daisy and her husband Vishvijay have manage to create an up-market hotel with a family run atmosphere. They are always around the hotel and are constantly making sure the guests feel comfortable. You can see they get personal satisfaction when guests have a pleasurable experience. Daisy sits in the restaurant during breakfast to personally make sure that the guests are satisfied and served well. They graciously take suggestions and are always trying to improve the quality of their service by taking feedback. Daisy always makes sure the hotel is spotless and smelling nice. The hallways are decorated with fresh flowers and the rooms reflect that they have put a lot of thought and effort into the design and decoration. The restaurant and terrace has a lovely atmosphere especially in the evening with perfect lighting, a panaromic view of Udaipur, the city palace, and the lake. Santoor and Tabla players lightly play in the background throughout the evening. It is a great restaurant for couples for a nice romantic dinner and also for a group of friends to gather in the evening for conversation over drinks. You can really feel at home and trust that you will be taken care of Udai Kothi. i highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is stunning. Goregous, spacious, well-located and just simply beautiful. It has a spectacular roof from which you can watch the sunset above the lake. Its cuisine is to die for. I would probably recommend booking a table at the roof restaurant (or a box next to the swimming pool - so romantic!) and staying in any hotel nearby as most of the will be half price. However, if you feel like a bit of indulgance, this is the place for you!

I was very excited about staying at the Udai Kothi based on the reviews and pictures off their website. The rooms indeed are nice haveli style. However the hotel has so many negatives that I would really suggest you find another property. I am a seasoned traveler all over the world and have been a travel agent in the past. I rarely have left a negative review on this site since on my travels, I try to look at things postively. But in this case, there was too much to overlook. Here are the negatives:
1.) hotel restaurant and restaurant manager. We went to eat here on our first night. It is a fabulous rooftop location with great views. However after waiting over an hour for our food, all of out parties' food was served less than lukewarm. After complaining to the waiter for over a half hour, the manager finally showed up and just said sorry we are busy. He did not offer to warm up or send us fresh food. I told him, I refused to pay for a meal which I did not even eat, but he stated that I would have too. This is the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. Addtionally, there were several other guests during our stay that had similar terrible experiences. We avoided the restaurant the rest of our stay.
2.) Hotel management is a real dissapointment. After complaing about our experience at the hotel, the manager just stated that the hotel has never had a complaint and we are the first. Based on the reviews on this site, this is obvoiusly false.
3. ) Room noise: Avoid rooms on third floor below restaurant. We had noise all night and had a tough time sleeping.
4. ) Hotel location: not in a very touristy part of town with that many shops or restaurants. I would stay closer to the city palace next time.

In summary, the hotel could be great considering its pretty haveli style rooms, but due to very poor hotel and restaurant managment, I would definitely avoid, espcially if you are from the USA since you will not be used to this degree of incompetance.

Hotel has great furnishings including lobby and rooms. Rooms are beautifully made in Rajasthan style. But hotel is very small and when you reach there you feel a little disappointed. Very small lawn. Approach is quite bad. No view to speak of from the room. Nice roof top restaurant

Nothing worse could have happened on such a otherwise wonderful trip of ours.
We had planned a trip of Rajasthan (jaipur, udaipur, chitorgarh) in advance and had got all hotels booked in advance through their respective websites.
After staying for 2 nights in The Trident Jaipur (BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE)....we reached Udaipur for a SHOCK OF OUR LIFE.
The hotel is just not the way they show on their website.....its located inside cramped lanes of udaipur where reaching through a car is a nightmare.
The staff placed their looks as if released directly through Tihar Jail....... can u imagine that inspite of confirming my booking on mail and on phone they said that we are unable to locate your name in our records but still we will accomodate you ( as if its a ehsaan on me ).
Then they keep us waiting for half an hour saying that "wait for 5 mins" (no courtesy to ask to sit / ask for water"
and to top it all when we decide not to stay and start our car nobody of those 3rd class people standing ask us to wait / return.

Thankfully we got a room in Trident Udaipur instantly and we could enjoy ourselves......... learnt the lesson of my life ...... go in for good known hotels only and not the photos pasted on websites

Describes itself as a boutique hotel - not sure I'd agree, but it is very pleasant, and worth getting one of the 'luxury' rooms on the upper floors with views of the lake (but I should mention that at timeof writing the lake is completely dry - lets hope the monsoon arrives this year!).

Service is friendly and the manager is very helpful. The rooftop pool is a godsend - wonderful. The restaurant is pretty good too - and the views across the lake are very special.

Its only a 10 minute walk to the temple and palace.

Tips: DO make the effort to go out of Udaipur to Khumbalgarh Fort and Ranakpur temple - really really special - well worth the effort (hire and taxi for the day - should be around 1,200 rupees). And for the best view of the Jagdish Temple in Udaipur itself, have dinner at the Mayur Rooftop restaurant directly opposite - and go up the black cast-iron staircase above the restaurant to the very top!

We stayed 3 nights at Udai Kothi and received best advice to organise our days at Udaipur and in the region (Ranakpur especially) from Mr. Bathi at the reception. He was very helpful and friendly. He answered all our numerous questions taking time to find out the best solutions for us to fully enjoy our stay. The hotel is recent but built in the style of old palaces and is decorated with antique furniture and old photos, there are lots of details in the decoration that makes it unique. The roof terrasse with the swimming pool, restaurant, maharaja-style balconies and the view over the city is fabulous. There is also a very nice garden. The rooms are decorated with taste, clean and very comfortable.
