“Charming heritage on a great location”
Reviewed 13 January 2011

We have stayed here twice, in July 2009 and October 2010. Both times were great experiences in this nicely renovated hotel. The hotel has helpful and kind staff, spacious and pleasant rooms, an excellent roof-top restaurant, a rooftop (!) swimmingpool and all of this on a great location for a reasonable price (mid-range).
Only one less positive comment: the breakfast was so-so.

I would definitely recommend this place to family or friends.

We both liked this hotel, having stayed there for two nights in January. The hotel and the room were charmingly decorated and although I believe that it is a new building (great plumbing!) it felt very in keeping with the heritage description. The rooftop restaurant has great views over the open lake, across to the fort, and of the rooftops of Udaipur. It does have an unfinished building site next door, but so does most of India and we were not disturbed at all by any work going on. Dinner and drinks were good; breakfast was acceptable but not amazing.

Reception were very helpful, particularly when our flights were rescheduled and we needed to change all our arrangements. They were also happy to bring breakfast to our room at 5.45am so we could eat before leaving for our flight (important for malaria tablets!). The hotel is located in a small street of tourist shops and felt very safe when we walked out for a drink one evening. We didn't try walking into Udaipur itself but there were usually a couple of auto-rickshaws parked nearby to take you anywhere slightly further afield.

Minor niggles were the slightly grey towels, and that the mini bottles of toiletries seemed to be recycled from one guest to the next, but this didn't spoil the overall very pleasant stay.

We opted to stay at a small heritage hotel in Udaipur instead of an expensive western chain when visiting Udaipur. The owner is a woman which is no small feat in Northern India and it became her passion to open this hotel on her own. The rooms are comfortable and fully functional. The service good and attentive. Be sure to visit the restaurant on the roof of the hotel. Very good food and safe to eat while under the stars and good views of the lake and city.
The only thing I was very disappointed in was the breakfast which was included in the rate. The foods were not very appealing and the breads were chewy and tough. The coffee was instant which is a real problem inside India since it is more the standard then not.
If you stay be sure to look for the owner and say hi. She loves to talk to her guests and will tell you about her dreams recreating this hotel.

We stayed two nights (part of two weeks in Rajasthan with a car and a driver all set up by a Delhi travel agency and a month in India and my umpteenth trip to India but first to Rajasthan). Rooms are very good even though we faced the street (but also the lake and the "downtown" as it were). Only downside was an elevator that did not always perform properly (worked but got stuck at the top floor occasionally). Staff couldn't have been nicer. Same day laundry. Manager allowed me to use a hotel computer for email. Down the street from a very terrific restaurant that's right on the water and has a spectacular view (as does the hotel's rooftop restaurant).

What a pleasure, after the surly staff we had encountered in our Delhi hotel, to be welcomed with smiles and an efficient check in closely followed by a complimentary breakfast, having arrived from the overnight train at 6am!

This is a splendid hotel with pleasant willing staff, comfortable rooms and an excellent rooftop restaurant and adjacent pool. It also has a small shady garden in which the wi-fi works - very pleasant to have a beer and check emails. The views from the rooftop pool and restaurant area are admirable in the direction of the lake but a veil should be drawn over the opposite view over what appears to be a building site. Still - you can't have everything, and there are very entertaining monkeys and parakeets to watch on that side.

Others on here have lamented that the hotel isn't in the centre of things - a good thing in my view as the town of Udaipur, once behind the spectacular lakeside facade of the palace etc etc, really leaves a lot to be desired - it's bustling and dirty in the way of larger Indian cities, so it's nice to be 5 minutes wallk across the bridge away from it all. And there's an excellent waterside cafe on the way for a cold drink and a snack whilst watching the ladies do their laundry at the ghat.

I was recommended this Hotel by a colleague in office. I was travelling with my wife and 9 months old son. I found the service at the Hotel very good. The staff was ready to accomodate our needs which was over and above the standard expectations. I needed the room service to heat my son's milk every couple of hours and also, customize some food for him.
Location of the hotel was quite central however the approach to the hotel was very narrow.
Hotel has a terrace swimming pool and dining area which are well maintained and it was fun hanging out there.
I was visiting Udaipur during lean tourist season and therefore got a good discount on the room rate however during the peak session, the rates are quite high. Personally I feel the peak session rates are not justified. The rooms are good but can be better. Towels in the bathroom were not very clean. Hotel can surely look at replacing the carpets in the room.
Overall, I do recommend this Hotel basis the location, service and terrace swimming pool.

we were a little disappointed with this hotel as it presented well but I felt it was too far from all the main attractions of Udaipur. The rooms were well decorated but the views from the swimming pool overlooked an unfinished building site. When they open these extra rooms they will loose the smaller personal touch, which they use as a selling point. The swimming pool is very welcoming on a hot day,but the restaurant was somewhat dark and it was more pleasant to eat outside. The prices for meals was very expensive and it was better value and more fun to eat in outside places and catch an auto rickshaw home.
