“the most beautiful room ever!!!”
Reviewed 4 November 2011

We stayed at suite no. 7 and I have to say it was the best room ever!!! the room had 3 huge windows which opened up right on the lake.. so much so that we could bend down and actually touch the water and a perfect view of the lake palace.. next to one window is this really nice low couch and at night, you can see the reflection of the lights at all places around the Pichola lake in the water which is nothing short of stunning.. the bed and the rest of the room is also very pleasant. there is also a LCD tv but in out 2 nights there, we dint find the need to turn it on.
the ambrai restaurant is done up nicely and serves rather good food...
the only drawback is that the hotel doesn't offer any room service (other than beverages)

Room Tip: ask for suite no. 7.. we checked out a few suites before picking this one and it was easily the best...

Amet Haveli is a very nice place in Udaipur, the rooms are beautiful, the view is great,
BUT the staff at the reception and at the attached Restaurant are incompetent morons.
It is not their business to work in Hotels and Restaurants. Their service is more than awful.

The Ambrai staff is always unfriendly and the receptionists were lying into our face just
for reason to gain some additional Rupees. It is pathetic how they treat customers, they give---- on you whether you come back or not. So check your bill carefully, also the hidden cost for "complimentary" WiFi! No kidding.

If you stay there, be aware there is even no pool, just a little bath tub for birds, there is
no WiFi connection in the rooms, only accessible in the inconvenient reception area. Be careful with the staff, they just walk in your room without asking for permission, don't care if your wife is naked or not.

There is no quietness or a relaxing area you can chill or have a drink apart from the grass field in front of the house, BUT you will always be disturbed and annoyed by scamblers passing by carrying THE travel bible on their way to the terrace at Ambrai sitting and sipping on their shared coke.

The attached Ambrai restaurant terrace is too often occupied by non guests. Do not expect special treatment as guest of Amet Haveli! You are second class. Best tip: Don't book your breakfast in advance (it is not included), get it cheaper when you go directly to the Ambrai.
There is something wrong with Amet Haveli, this place has bad vibrations.
You're better off to stay away.

The hotel had an attractive white washed exterior and we were privileged to have an upstairs room (7) with a beautiful view across Lake Pichola. The room was large, clean, airy and light and had been recently decorated. It had simple but decent furnishings. The bathroom was drab. The water was more warm than hot (activated by solar energy). Bring your own towels. The swimming pool was small and unused because the water looked dirty.
The Ambrai restaurant setting was hard to beat with wonderful views and shimmering lights on the water at night. The restaurant has a good reputation and was busy but the menu was standard and the food average both in the evening and at breakfast.
We felt undue pressure to constantly tip waiters and this could make things more uncomfortable than relaxing.
We experienced several electricity failures in our 3 day stay.
The managers were helpful and allowed us to access the internet on their own computer without charge.
The hotel represents good value for money and was not used by coach tour groups during our stay.

Stayed here on 14aug. as last minute booking on phone. location is pathetic'.staff a bit rude and they feel they r obliging guests.food in restsurant is good but atmospherr dusty due to pebbles below tables.although location os very good and u can see fabulous castle in front.they dont have any organized manner for restaurant booking.
Room is ok in old style but using cheap intiriors.
Bathroom is old and stale with no hot water and shower not working.
Cc machine not workin
I am criticising it as they r charging as 4 or 5 star property bit its just 2to 3 star.

We stayed in the hotel 3 nights, the price is very very high compared the service, the pool water was dirty, restaurant dirty and discusting food, and expensive, and above all they expend the hotel, so you can imagine the noisy machines cutting the huge stones and which brings also the dust...just awful, welcome in India, where you will be never satisfied and where you will pay high prices...better to go to Thailand, Indonasia...

At the last minute we decided to go to Udaipur and we were disappointed none of our first choices were available. (Tip: book early for this town) This place had one room and one suite available and although the room was almost as lovely as the suite, since the price difference was negligible we opted for the larger suite. We meant to stay for only one night but we were so relaxed and happy here that we ended up staying several. First, I thought the room was lovely and I happily spent a lot of time just staring out the windows at the lake watching women wash clothes, boats drift by, birds, etc. Secondly, although I normally like to try new restaurants, the hotel's restaurant was fantastic. The food was great and the ambiance divine. Looking at the lake at night is so relaxing, the weather in February perfect, there was live music, puppet shows, congenial patrons at nearby tables. It was just blissful.
Another plus is the hotel is on the other side of the lake as most major attractions such as City Palace Museum. I liked this because it was nice and quiet and the attractions were still just a short walk away. The only downside was the hotel employees weren't quite as friendly as others I met elsewhere on the trip. They weren't rude so much as they seemed like they couldn't be bothered. They volunteered no information about the hotel, local attractions and even when pressed just seemed to shrug their shoulders. Maybe a language problem? Still, I thought the hotel was still a fantastic deal for the price.

An absolutely great location- the last stop before the bathing ghats!
We booked a corner room- the tide was IN and it was superb.

Not too sure if it would be the best spot when the water recedes.
The restaurant gets all the ticks, good menu, good staff and great food.

The only quibble was to do with the hotwater service-
it WAS winter after all, the sun was shining ,
so the solar heaters should have been chugging away with no effort- alas, a goose bumped partner ,mid ablutions requesting assistance from the desk is not something to be trifle with- holiday or not!
After about 15 minutes of running the water at full- a lukewarm drizzle- I have a real problem about wasting water - especially in palces like Rajasthan and Australia- I have perfected the 3 minute shower and shave as a result and to watch all that water disappear , troubled my greenish sensibilities- it may not trouble some, but be warned.

I loved the squeaky clean and whitewashed exterior , corridors and interiors, but was a tad aghast at the bad use of THREE modern tile patterns/sizes used in the ENORMOUS bathroom. In a land known for its great use of pattern and design , I think management asked the chap from "Tiling 101" to select and design the bathroom- a pity as the rest of the fit out was great.
Best to check that the water is in and grab a corner room overlooking the lake- OR , close the windows and light some incense if it's out and the night airs are a tad foetid.
