You can't get any closer to Pichola Lake: The hotel's exterior wall stands in it! Needless to say that the rooms offer stunning views - in my opinion amongst the best view in Udaipur. The rooms are in traditional style and the colour coordination is a bliss! (not the "explosion-in-the-paint-shop" colour scheme, witnessed elsewhere...).

The restaurant "Ambrai", on the haveli's grounds was so good, that we did not venture elsewhere durch our stay.

It is regrettable that the smart upmarket hotels adopt an inflexible and punitive attitude towards guests whose arrival is delayed for reasons beyond their control. In my case an Air India flight was cancelled and I was unable to arrive for the first of my 2 night booking. (We had 2 rooms booked.) I informed the hotel immediately of the flight cancellation and, as they claimed to have a waiting list, was sure they could fill the room I was unable to take. (We were ourselves on a waiting list for a further 2 night stay.) So I was taken aback to be charged in full for 2 nights when I was able to stay only one. I explained the situation in detail but was met with adamant refusal. I can understand a ‘no-show’ being charged (particularly if the room cannot be filled) but in a case of a hotel as smart and expensive as this, where one’s arrival is delayed for reasons beyond one’s control and where immediate notice is given, I think it unjust. It is a marvellous place but I would not book in advance.

DEAREST GUEST

Many many thanks for a soul searching feedback on T.A. We sincerely apologise for unconvience caused to you while handling your reservation and communication regarding your late arrival due to reasons beyond human control .Indeed this point will be put forward to management to review there policy regarding late or deferred arrivals . I would only like to clearify that the waiting list guest are not available if any guest cancels it stay at short notice i e 1 week or less as they tend to book at other place or cancel there visit . In your c ase also both your rooms were laying vacant on your purposed 1st night as it is very dificult to find walk ins for 1 night stay . Hope you do understand our situation on this point .
We do want you to welcome back you as our guest of honour .
With humblest regards and best wishes .

The Amet Haveli must have one of the best positions in Udaipur! We had two Lake View Suits and from the window at water level, you have stunning views of the impressive City Palace and the Lake Palace (an expensive Taj Hotel). The rooms are very spacious, beautifully decorated, with comfortable bathrooms. The Haveli is beautifully maintained and the staff and management are competent, friendly and very helpful.
The Ambrai Restaurant (part of the hotel) serves fantastic food and the views, especially at night are to die for! Make sure to reserve a table to avoid dissapointment.
I can ony very highly recommend this Hotel to anyone traveling through Udaipur, you won't be disappointed. Our thanks to the Management and staff for a very memorable stay. We'll be back again.

Amet Haveli was the best Rajathan-hotel-experience we had. It's simply great!
It's located directly at the lake and the view from the clean and spacious rooms is stunning. The atmosphere in the fabulous outdoor restaurant is very nice, especially, when you go there for a sundowner! The staff, an especially Mr. Vimal Sahu, who was at the front desk, were very friendly and helpful. As the price difference between a standard room and the suite isn't that big, you should consider paying the extra money, it's definitely worth it! We stayed there for two nights and very much regretted having to leave!

We stayed here with our children and had 2 rooms on the first floor with lake view. The views are really what makes this a special place and I recommend getting up early (before dawn) and going up on the roof to watch the colours of the Lake City Palace change as the sun comes up. Magical. The rooms are comfortable and quite clean and the room service staff are responsive and efficient. What lets the hotel down though is the quality of food at the restaurant. The food is very disappointing (Tandoori chicken was dry) and the service is geared to quantity rather than quality. We ate on the terrace once in the evening and then went elsewhere the following nights. Breakfast is a pleasanter experience as the morning calm, the light and the views of the lake make the experience much more enjoyable.

This old-family Haveli has been slowly expanding for a few years now, and was completing a new wing of luxury suites when I last visited (which the owner was happy to show me around). They've also built the skeleton for a massive extension, but have yet to acquire permission to complete. This really will change the character of the place, and I'm not entirely sure if it'll be for the best as it'll lose some of that more intimate feel. That said, the fact that the restaurant has arguably the best location in town (as you look out over the Lake and City Palaces) ensures that the restaurant at least is always busy.

My room was very well appointed and extremely comfortable, and I'm struggling to recall any faults that spring to mind. The only issue was decorators constantly clinging to the outside of my windows, but since I was staying in off-season and was getting a reduction as a result of the renovations, I wasn't overly bothered.

The restaurant, as previously mentioned, has possibly the best location in town. As a result it's pretty packed most nights, so be sure to book. The food is decent, without being anything special. As with Rajasthan in general, there is much generic Mughlai and Punjabi fare, with flavours slightly muted for tourist tastes, but there are some Rajasthani options (lal maas etc) worth trying. Breakfast is not included in the room rate, so watch out for that one, as I seem to remember it's a little on the pricey side, though of course you do get decent service and a view to mull over.

I certainly like the feel of this place, and they've been lucky to avoid development on a plot that sits adjacent to the Haveli entrance. If this were to be substantially built upon it would certainly visually encroach upon the Amet and may completely change the feel of the place. There were some worrying signs of potential construction here on my last visit.... However at present, it's still a charming place in it's own way, though I do feel that rates seem increasingly on the steep side for India.

Room Tip: Those directly at the front might seem the obvious choice for views, however 1. the window box seats...

I stayed here for two nights in three rooms with my family members. Approach to reach of last 500 meters are on narrow streets but auto Rickshaw are easily available at doorstep. The location is exactly on the edge of the pichola lake. It's restaurant gives the view of city palace & lake palace hotel which are hardly 200/300 mtrs.away on the lake site. The pool is very small & may not be comfortable for swimming.
Staff is polite, room service & food was good. I would recommend it for nature
lovers.
