“An Oasis in Udaipur”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 November 2009

We stayed in room 17 with gorgeous lake views in two directions, and windows that opened wide to let in the morning sun. The room was large, super clean, and the bathroom was equally as nice, with double sinks, and hot water all day long. It is outside Chandpol gate, thus slightly removed from all the hustle and bustle of Udaipur, which was a welcome treat after long hot days of shopping and sightseeing. Yet, it is only about a 5-10 minute walk to the center of town. The only thing I might find to compain about would be the pool. It didn't look terribly clean, not dirty, but just a little green looking. We asked the manager, and he said the color is due to the very hard water in Udaipur. Could be, I guess.
The Ambrai restaurant, next to the hotel, is fabulous. Make sure you get a lakeside table!

A fantastic hotel. We had a suite with amazing views over the lake. The room was enormous, spotless and beautifully decorated. Reading a book as the sun set over the lake as the sound of the indian musicians playing gently at the restaurant below was one of the best Indian experiences we had. The restaurant wasn't cheap but the food was gorgeous. It was about a 5 minute walk into town from the hotel. There was a powercut every morning for about an hour (which meant we had to pay in cash rather than on a card). I really recommend this place. It's very relaxing.

Amet Haveli is a clean, well-situated with scenic vistas hotel. Good food, and helpful staff.
We stayed at room#7, which provides a good view of the lake, the city palace, lake palace, and fair view of the lake banks.
The outdoor-restaurant provides a even better view of the lake, and the places around it.
The restaurant - Ambrai - fills up during dinner time, because of its excellent location, good food, and the general romantic setting. Make sure you reserve a place for dinner there.

We stayed in this hotel 2 nights, and had dinner at the restaurant 3 times. Due to it being off season we were the only guests in the hotel and hence received very good service. The rooms are good but a little bit dated and compared to the more upmarket hotel we had stayed in before we needed to adjust our expectations slightly. The views of the lake are there as promised, except that unfortunately most of the lake has actually dried out so expect to see puddles. The staff are very friendly, we were even invited to have lunch at the manager's house which was an absolute highlight of our trip in India.

Overall the hotel has a very pleasant atmosphere and is beautifully situated on the lake with views of Udaipur. We really enjoyed the food at the restaurant and despite not being able to match the Oberoi it is high quality none the less. Especially at night this place is highly romantic and overall promises a great experience. Definitely recommended.

We spent 3 days here. It was low season so the hotel was quiet and there was some extension work going on but we weren't disturbed at all by noise. The rooms are spacious, clean and cool but we spent little time indoors since the hotel's open air restaurant was too enticing. The restaurant was amazing; the food was great, staff were incredibly friendly, and the view has to be the best in Udaipur - right across the lake (unfortunately currently dry) to the city palace on the bank and the Taj lake palace in the middle. Really good value hotel with a lot of character, definitely recommended

We stayed 2 days and a night at Amet Haveli. The location of the Haveli is good. Right across the lake are nice views of both city palace and lake palace. We were in suite 12 which provided good views of both these palaces, though would have been nicer if windows were bigger. The in-house restaurant Ambrai serves great food, and gives best views of lake and the city palace in Udaipur. Do not forget to explore some not so obvious charms of the haveli, like back court-yard garden adjoining lake with quiet relaxing environment, stair-case in back leading to lake and hanuman ghat, the old style small pool etc.

I stayed at Amet Haveli for one night. My train arrived Udaipur early, so they let me check in around 8:30am. All rooms face the lake and mine had a great view of the city along the lake but did not have a view of the Lake Palace. This was not an issue since the view from their restaurant is amazing!
This is a very safe place for a solo traveler - even a girl.
I ran into a couple of issues during my stay. The hot water was only luke-warm and the air conditioner didn't work when i got my room. These were fixed prompty though, so I'm not going to complain about it. :)
The room was clean and well lit. There were 2 fans in case you don't want to use the air conditioner. The pool right outside my room was not heated, but that's probably a good thing in the summer when it is really hot.
The restaurant has very good food, but I thought it was a bit over priced.
The only thing that I didn't like was that the staff seems a little biased towards non-indian guests. It wasn't too noticeable, but if you're an indian visiting, don't be surprised if you're not treated with the same eagerness as foreigners.
