This was our 2nd visit to Udaipur (we stayed at the Taj Lake Palace the first time). We decided that we couldn't justify the expense of the Taj for this trip so plumped for the Lalit instead. The location of the Lalit means that the views are good, however it also means that getting into Udaipur (or even getting home again!) results in a TukTuk ride down a pot-holed road. We only ate at the hotel 1 night (we weren't that impressed), however the rooms were clean and large. Remember that if you do go out at night, Tuk Tuks generally stop running at 10.30pm. Would we stay here again? No. There are lots of much nicer places in Udaipur for a lot less money.

Ahhh, the Lalit. What an elegant hotel on the top of a hill in Udaipur. I was in heaven from the moment I arrived, when I received a warm welcome from a band, a dancing horse and a flower necklace. The hotel is largely gleaming black and white marble. The rooms are large, nicely furnished and so clean that they sparkle. We'd been staying in heritage hotels that were not quite as updated, and it felt good to have an evening in a more modern room. The service was impeccable...laundry given at 2 p.m. was returned washed, iron and packed in crisp plastic by 6 p.m. The restaurants were very good -- we had great dinner one night, in a large group outside in a table overlooking Udaipur. We watched a music and dance show that was quite nice. The internal dining was nice and cool, and we good snacks and tea. The location is good...it sits atop a little hill. While you probably need to take a car to get to the sites, it is a well-manicured and well paved road to access the hotel.

We stayed in Lalit,Laxmi Vilas Palace,Udaipur for 2 Nights..We had Breakfast and Dinner Included In our Package''
We had lots of comprehensions while choosing this Hotel'coz of lots of bad reviews in various websites''But Still we booked it on Lalit Hotels Namesake''
We Landed Udaipur early morning at around 9 am...we had sent an email at the Hotel for Early check Inn Request''
Hotel Car was there at airport well on time''
Driver Madan was very courteous'well dressed and while on our way to Hotel''acted like a perfect guide about Udaipur.
It took us 30 minutes from Airport to Hotel''
Believe me The Hotel is ideally located up on a small Hill''very near to the market Place(Chetak Circle) ''with a very nice view of Fateh Sagar lake'' Greenery all around'' Good runway from Main Gate to the Porsche''
Finally we reached the Hotel''
It was awesome''
Everyone from the Guard at the Front Gate to Drivers to FRont office staff are so sweet in Greeting you with Namskar!
2 ladies were ready at the porsche to welcome us with Tika and a b'ful mala''
It was so gooood''
Above all'' They told us that Our rooms are ready''(IT was 9.30 Am)..so sweeet of them''
We had booked Garden View Rooms..We got a room on second Floor''
Good Interiors, Neat and clean Rooms''
SOny 50" Flat Screen'Hot Kettle with Mineral Water, Centralized Ac,Bathrooms were very Neat and clean with Shower Cubicle''With all types of Shampoos,Moisturizers and Body Wash''
They also provided us with Iron and Iron Board on request without ant xtra cost..
Lalit'Laxmi Vilas Has 2 restaurants''
Padmini and Aangan''
Padmini the restaurant where they serve Buffet B'fast''
And Aangan the open Air Bar-Be-Que...which serves excellent tandoori and continental cuisines''
We read on various websites regarding hopeless food Quality in the Hotel''
But I was shocked''to find all the reviews meaningless'' coz the food at the Hotel was Awesome''
They have specialized Kids Menu''It helped our son a lot''
French Fries'Curd and Rice''Palin Dal and Rice,Pastries n all were a perfect kids menu''
Other cuisines were also awesome'
DO try out Chilly Cheese Toast'' It was sooo yummy'
Dal MAkhni and Palak paneer were our favourites''
In Breakfast they served enough Variety''
SOuth Indian--Vada,Idli sambhar
Chana Poori, Paneer Parantha and sausages n all with live Omlette counter''

For In House Guests They have'' Horse Dance with Band'' Bagpiper Band in Evening and Puupet Show for kids''with Rajasthani folk dance everyday in Aangan''
In evening the Palace looks really stunning''

Some Major Drawbacks of this Hotel are:

-They don't have enough facilities like Swimming Pool,Gymnasium,Steam Sauna n all''
But They do have a Snooker table in there Lobby''
A small Gym with 2 machines each for ladies and Gents''
SO you don't have much to do in this Hotel'''

Apart from all these'' Its was an overall good experience with this Hotel''
An Advice:- Get It booked through Rave Travels'' Connaught Palce , New-Delhi''India
There Number is :[--]...They give you 15 % Discount on packages''
Do opt for City Palace and other site seeings in Evening Time in Udaipur''Coz Udaipurs main USp is Lightning of City Palace and Jag Mandir''

Thanks''

3 of us travelling to Udaipur including my grandmother who is over 80 years old. Booked a twin room for 3 people and they made an extra bed. The rooms are on the first and second floor though first floor is essentially 4 steps up from the ground floor. There is disabled access with a ramp up. 2nd floor is not accessible for the disabled due to the 2 steep flight of stairs.

The deluxe room is very comfortable and spacious and there was plenty of space for a third single bed to be added. The sheets and towels were in good condition as was the room.
Room facilities include 50" sony tv, minibar, tea coffee making facilities, hairdryer, etc as standard.

Given the drought in Udaipur over the last 2 years I would not recommend a room with a lake view as there is not much of a lake left.

The hotel itself is in very nice grounds with a very nice approach by road and excellent view looking out over the lake and hills from the front entrance.

I found the staff to be very helpful and courteous.

In terms of food, I think the kitchen is definitiely not the same standard as a Taj or Oberoi but the breakfast was fine with plenty of choice. I think in order for the hotel to be thought of in the same regard as these two, its catering needs to be improved.

But otherwise, if you are looking for a comfortable five star to stay in while seeing Udaipur, don't look beyond this hotel

I just returned after staying one night with my family , i had booked this hotel directly through net hoping that my short stay will be memorable as i had heard this was good hotel. But it really pains me to sya that hotel was not worth staying as far as food is concerned.
We had dinner at night in the hotel resturanet but it was totally below standard,it wa served as we are sitting in roadside small hotel , even dishes we ordered were below avrerage in preparation so we were forced to leave dinner half way.

In morning we took breakfast but as all the items were very ordinary no touch of a good hotel, basic food which should have been instantly prepared was preprepared and was cold .A south indian dish sambhar was like a typical dense curry .thier were not much options to choose either in menu.
IN The price they charge for room thier are many far better options in city.
only plus point is location nothing else

We stayed over Christmas in this hotel. The first night we were given 3 rooms separated from each other in the new wing (which seemed to be the only part being used.) Noise through the paper thin walls from the adjoining rooms was intrusive and our travel agent had to intervene to get us moved to lake view (through the trees). The rooms although well appointed are nothing special and a giant television screen dominates.
The service is nothing short of appaling. (After arrival it took over an hour to get drinks) We moved from the outside bar seating area after 20 mins. watching the staff having supper inside when the single waiter told us he could not be with us for another 10 mins.)

The gardens have 3 tables outside the front entrance where the spectacle of a dancing horse greets you...something out of the middle ages, the poor beast does not look happy. On request ancient sunloungers can be procured on the lower scruffy lawn but there is no pool or ourside sun terrace to sit. Also no spa (as advertised)

Service in the outside and inside resaurants took hours. The mandatory Christmas eve buffet (expensive) was poorly attended and although some of the staff made a real effort it was not worth the expense. In my opinion the food in general was mediocre. (Don't start me on the wine, stick to beer)

Sadly It appears something has gone badly wrong here as compared to some of the previous reviews...we did not enjoy our stay.
