Udaipur is the most romantic of cities and I am glad we chose to stay at the Heritage Rampratap Palace on the Fateh Sagar Lake.

Spacious and clean rooms having stunning views from the windows of the garden and lake beyond.

Across the road the hotel has a lovely garden restaurant with individual tents for tables. Ask for Room 15/13 with the balcony - Absolutely recomended.

We stayed for 2 nights in late Jan 08. The lake view room was really disappointing (avoid room no. 10). It has a lake view but at the same time is right above a main road so it was very noisy with the traffic, and honking is a driving habit in India.

The room was gloomy, lighting were inadequate and few. The tap in the washing basin was dripping and the toilet seat is loose and one has to be very careful on sitting down. The shower taps are all wrong so you get cold water with the hot tap. It was freezing (3 degrees Celcius that night ) while I was there 15 minutes waiting for the hot water which only came when you tried the cold water tap!

It was freezingly cold at night but they only provided a very minimal blanket. We asked for 2 more per person and still we were shivering and had to put on all our outdoor clothings to keep warm. Same complaint from Western travellers as well next door.

Reception staff was not friendly, with no social smiles most of the times. There was an internet terminal sitting under the staircase which seems quite accessible to everyone. We used it to confirm out plane tickets twice and on checking out found that we have to pay quite a large sum for it (much much more expensive than internet cafe in town). There was no sign on the computer or in the room saying there is a fee for the computer so we thought it was not very honest on their part.

Overall not worth the price.

The pretty picture of the tents right at the front of the hotel was a deception as in fact there was a road between the hotel and those tents which was the restaurant. The room also looked nothing like the picture on the website.

Our first Heritage hotel in India. Had a nice room with beautiful view over the Fateh Sagar lake. Restaurant was opposite the hotel, outside near the lake. Price of food was above average and they didn't put on the campfire, so was too cold at night to enjoy it for a longer time. If they put more effort in this it will be a perfect place to stay in Udaipur.

The Rampratap palace hotel overlooks the Fateh Sagar lake, marble mansion with pleasant but small, comfortable, clean, airy rooms with marble floors and lovely window seats overlooking the lake.

There is a great garden restaurant on the lake side, though only venture in if you have lots of time. Also very costly.

Good views across the lake and hills beyond from rooms and garden.

Nice hotel with beautiful sea views. Rooms are spacious and clean, bathrooms are very basic and hot water is coming in drops. But staff is very helpful, can arrange drivers to go to Ranakpur temple or Kumbhalgar fort and care about you. Breakfast comes with a flute player which makes it hard to enjoy the restaurant terrace and impossible to sleep longer than 8:00am. No real service on rooftop terrace but nice for a cup of tea during the day to bring along. Room 17 is with balcony overlooking the lake. Tuk-tuk ride to Udaipur center (Jagdish temple) is 50 Rps. Also try the henna painting the hotel offers!

The Rampratap palace hotel overlooks the Fateh Sagar lake, just north of Udaipur's main attractions. Its a rambling marble mansion with pleasant airy rooms with marble floors and lovely window seats overlooking the lake. There is a great garden restaurant on the lake side.

Staff are helpful and friendly and whilst this isnt the Lake Palace Hotel by any means, its a comfortable, clean pleasant place to stay to explore the city and its palaces. Our main complaint was a lack of hot water due to a defective bathroom heater. The bathrooms arent great but they are clean and the spacious room makes up for it
