“A Good Budgeted Hertiage hotel”
Reviewed 15 December 2009

We were 2 couples and stayed here during 2nd week of Dec 09. We actually reached at 9 am and since the rooms were ready they allowed us to check in early. The rooms were pleasent, nice, clean and decent. The bathrooms were also nice and clean. It also has a swiming pool which is clean. The breakfast served by the hotel is really good though they dont have a buffet you can order anything from the menu which is available in the morning for b'fast. It has many options for vegetarians as well as non vegetarians. The service in the hotel is above average. We stayed here for 3 nights. The location is also good and the hotel is about 10 mins away from the city palace & Jgdish temple. Its also near by some local sighseeing like sahelion ki bari, fateh sagar lake, Karni mata mandir (cable car). Overall I would recommed this hotel as a good budget stay hotel.

Once again the standard haveli format, rooms with balconies, window seating and coloured glass, and also with a pool. Very close to Rangniwas and the City Palace, as well as Gulab Bagh, the giant public garden opened in 1881 or so. Ok value, their rates seem to have gone up recently, you can probably find cheaper budget rooms elsewhere, but then you may not get a pool.

Their basic rooms are simply furnished, roomy and clean, and because it's an old construction, likely to be relatively cool even in summer without the air conditioning. However, the more swanky rooms have a pool view and whatnot, not to mention ac, so if you want to splash out on that, go for it! There was a mouse incident one night, but being on the ground floor with a garden, it's not surprising it got in. Staff were obliging in trying to get it out even though it was nearly midnight!

Fantastic food. Service is slow, but that's because they make everything from scratch, so just make sure you order well enough in advance. At the risk of sounding snobby, they actually know how to brew tea! As opposed to stew it I mean!

Staff are fine, though a tad slow, perhaps it was the language barrier, as with most places here Hindi works better than any other. There's now a shop for blockprinted fabrics right outside the door (the Soma chain from Jaipur) in case you have last minute shopping. comparable with Anokhi.

  • Liked — the poolside restaurant and food
  • Disliked — mouse in the bathroom!

My son and I stayed here for 2 nights on our initial visit to Udaipur and then moved on with the intention of returning to Udaipur to catch the night train to Agra. Delhi Belly intervened so we stayed 2 more nights a week later. The staff could not have been more helpful as one of us had a full day in bed. We would fully recommend anyone to stay here. The price is cheap ,the beds and rooms are very comfortable and the staff are excellent.-really excellent !!!

The staff here was great. We had a top floor room with a view of the castle for which they charged us the price of a normal room because they had quoted us 1600rps but those rooms were booked. This room was 2400- so 2000 would have been fair- but the owner said no make it 1600. Again. a great and friendly staff. Also ate many great meals there- cant say enough.
Beautiful grounds and rooms- great place in a great city.

Mahendra Prakash is literally my home away from home. The hotel offers a full experience in Udaipur in every way. When traveling in 2007 I was able to stay at Mahendra Prakash for 1 month. They were accommodating and I was able to create a life long friendship with the hotel. When I returned this year I was able to visit Mahendra Parakash. I was served tea and greeted warmly. I was home again.

The service and understanding of people from foreign countries at Mahendra Prakash is unparalleled in Udaipur. India can be an intense place to travel around. Once within the wall so Mahenda Prakash you are surrounded by peace and serenity. You are waited on but not fussed over. The staff are warm and have a wealth of information about Udaipur. You will always have a safe way to travel around the city.

My strong recommendation is to call Pamna (+-----) Duing my trips Pamna quickly became one of my most trusted and best friends. I spent time with his wife and three children and often had outings all over Udaipur. Pamna is a safe driver and he cares about family. This is a big deal to me. I always gave him my money because with him, I was never worried. Be aware that Pamna’s English is still basic, however, if you take your time he can understand anything. Please tell Pamna that you read about him from Ian. He’ll tell you we are brothers.

We had just done some hard traveling in in Rajahstan and someone in Jodpur told us about this gem. We got an excellent rate as it was low season and we loved everything about the place. Room was clean and spacious with a soft bed! Food and service was good and the staff were always cheerful and helpful. Close to the south end of town but still close enough to walk in easily for shopping and eating. Would definitely go again when the lake fills up

Mahendra Prakash not only offers the best value for money, but also has a great locational advantage. The Palace is just a five minutes walk, Jagdish Temple is close by & if one wants to take some breathtaking views of lake Pichola - then Dudh Talai is a few meandering curves away. For a person like me who is addicted to his morning walk (my endorphin pill) he has to just cross the road & enter Gulab Bagh which has good paths for walking & an amazing 73 varieties of roses!
The rooms are big, the food is delicious & the staff friendly. The pool is clean & the gardens well kept
Ajai - the owner has a great sense of humour & is a one stop solution for all problems
