“Budget hotel with very good hospitality”
Reviewed 7 October 2013

I stayed for 2 nights at Mewar Haveli and I must say I came back pretty much satisfied. This budget friendly hotel is located at Lal ghat, a stone's throw away from Bagore ki Haveli, lake front, Jagdish temple and is surrounded by street shops and cafes - perfect for someone who wants to enjoy the old city charm of Udaipur's narrow streets. I would like to specially mention the hospitality and helpfulness shown by Harish at Mewar haveli right from beginning to the end. I was given a room with a twin bed so that was one minus point as far as the room was concerned. I had upgraded myself to a lake view room and I assume there was no other lake view room with a double bed. Room as such was decent considering the budget - small, basic but clean.

Room Tip: I had booked a superior room through cleartrip.com and then got it upgraded to a deluxe room when I...

We stayed in these hotel for only 1 night as we couldn't get accommodation for another day. The view from restaurant is too good. Also the rooms are decorated in a very nice way. Service is also prompt and good. Overall we had a nice experience.

I stayed with my family for 2 nights in this hotel. We took 2 rooms. The rooms are small but provide a good view of the Lake pichola. Check in was swift. This is the only hotel in the vicinity which had a lift. Rooms have window AC's which are operational though make lot of noise. The bath room was clean but the shower kept leaking. The bedsheet and towel could have been of little better quality.

The staff is very helpful and quick to attend to anything. Food at the restaurant was good and priced reasonably. The view from the restaurant was spectacular. I also ate at a nearby restuarant, Jaiwana Haveli and the food there was also decent. Please note that that the restaurant here at Mewar haveli serves only veg food since the owners are Jains, however they serve egg preparations and also, deliver non veg dishes if you want to eat(they have a menu from Jagat niwas restaurant which serves non veg food).

The owner, Mr. Harish is very knowledgeable and will help you plan your trip. This place is run together by Mr. Harish and his elder brother.

Overall a good place to stay and enjoy udaipur. Lots of attractions are at walking distance from this hotel, the boat riding jetty run by government, the bagore ki haveli, Lake pichola, Jagdish temple.

I did not like the keep of the vehicle arranged by the hotel, it had dirty linen both times we used their cars. I think apart from that it was a great experience at the hotel and will suit everyone's budget. Their were a lot of foreigners who stayed at the hotel and seemed very happy too.

The hotel is very well located at the lake, the rooms are nicely decorated and clean, the personnel is very friendly and helpful. There is a restaurant with great views on the lake. Wi-fi is available near the reception, it would be great if it was available also in the rooms and in the restaurant. I had the cooking classes in the hotel, which I really enjoyed. There is also a range of other activities available for reasonable price.

This hotel is run by an extremely capable staff team and management, who know how to treat guests. There is a variety of rooms, all with natural light but some with lake view. From the restaurant upstairs there is a gorgeous view. Small hotel which offers variety of optional activity ideas without being pushy. The price is perfect for the rooms, clean and value for money. Being budgetconcious, we had the standard room option and although small, it had lovely decor and was sparkling clean. I'd highly recommend. Fresh fluffy towels and comfortable bed was bliss.

Also we took the cooking course demonstrations led by the managers wife. She was encouraging and asked people to take part chopping, mixing etc. We made so many dishes I have lost count and the whole kitchen team were there to watch and join in. They have plans to provide a small recipe book for guests to take away and I hope they do this as it would mean guests would be able to take part more in the cooking instead of writing the recipes. Some of the explanations were fast so this used a lot of time when we asked them to repeat recipes etc, the booklet would mean guests could concentrate their attention fully on the cooking. The dishes were lovely tasting, and actually there was so much food left we couldnt eat it all! Wristband and traditional bhindi were nice touch aswell. I would recommend the course highly for those interested in cooking dishes at home.

Room Tip: Ask to be shown the room types and chose according to requirements. Lakeview seems nice if your budg...

Very good hotel and lovely views of the lake from our room and from the restaurant! Helpful and chatty manager who will help you plan why to do with your time if required.

We took a cooking class with the managers wife in the hotel kitchen. It was actually the first class she had given and she was a little nervous at first. We thoroughly enjoyed it! We cooked a vast selection of dished; pakoras, curries, dhal, chutneys, chapattis, paratha and halva. Although he quoted us 3h duration before hand, we were cooking for longer than this, and then sat down all together to enjoy the food, so it was good value for a whole morning plus lunch at 650 rupees per head. We had a goos laugh with the managers wife, she is friendly and encouraging and there was input from all the kitchen staff. I would recommend this cooking class if you have a spare morning in Udaipur.
