“Beautiful decor and location - courteous staff”
Reviewed 18 October 2010

We - my husband and I, stayed for 2 days at Karohi Haveli in the suite room. The season was perfect since Lake Pichola was full after a good monsoon. The view from our room was superb. The hotel decor reminds us of the Rajasthani traditional architecture, speckless white walls and very beautifully decorated rooms and passages, that make you fell like kings/queens of that era.
The staff was very courteous, polite and helpful and made us feel at home. They also suggested what all places to see in Udaipur with genuine reviews of the places. The roof top restaurant is a wonderful place for a romantic dinner, though the food and service has scope for improvement. overall a wonderful experience and value for money.

We had a dinner at the hotel because it was suggested by our guide. While the hotel has a beautiful location (across the lake from the City Palace with a stunning view of the city), the food and service left much to be desired. The meal was somewhere between mediocre and dreadful, and we had to pull out all the stops to attract the attention of the waiters when we needed service. To round it off the bathrooms for the use of restaurant patrons were probably some of the worst we'd seen in India - and THAT's saying something!

All in all a very disappointing and frustrating experience. One can only hope that they lift their game during the busy season...

You cannot hope to get down at the entrance to the hotel if you are traveling by a large vehicle and not by a car. Inside it is beautiful. Typically furnished like a Rajasthan hotel. Very colorful. If you happen to get the suit, you feel you are in a palace room.

I visited Karohi Haveli in March 2010 and stayed in a super deluxe room. The weather was hot. Lake Pichola was dry and there was no view of the lake from my room as promised by my travel agent. Rooms are average and doesnt give a feel that we are staying in a haveli. Basic ammenities like air conditioner were average in the room i stayed in. Food was good and the hospitality was great. As mostly foreingers visit Udaipur, therefore the hotel's main point of concern was to serve them better. But i was also taken care of well by the hotel. Places of interest in Udaipur like City Palace, Jagdish temple, Gulab Bagh, Vintage car collection, Zoo, Apno Dhani are near to the hotel. I would recommend to vist Apno Dhani for traditional Rajasthani food and dance.

I stayed the last two nights of Dec. 09 in the suite of this hotel: a large room on the top floor with sitting area, big windows with beautiful views to the (dried) end of the Pichola Lake and the mountains; big four-poster bed (but sheets & blankets too small), TV & ensuite bathroom…quite charming.

The roof top terrace offers a great view but the tablecloths were not clean and neither were the plastic chairs, and there were no lights. The restaurant is unwelcoming and below the standard of the rest of the hotel - too bad the décor doesn’t reflect the Rajasthani atmosphere. The imposed New Year’s Eve meal was too expensive and they didn’t bother to add some candles on this special occasion, so we ate almost in the dark (except for the fireworks around midnight). Service at the restaurant was poor as was the food.

The location is fine, lovely lawn area and patio, quiet neighborhood. The reception staff was friendly. In my view it’s not worth the money and you can get better (or similar) for less.

We wanted to stay at a traditional hotel since our other stays were at 4/5 star hotels. This hotel cannot be beaten for value in both room charges and extraneous costs such as internet access. The staff are friendly beyond belief and will arrange anything for you. Private car from the airport ran 500 INR, internet access was 60 INR per half hour. The location is wonderful with a rooftop view overlooking Lake Pichola and a lovely English garden where the dog watches over the plants in case the sacred cows wander in. The food is adequate, but there are plenty of restaurants close by if you choose to venture out. I read some bad reviews concerning hot water availability, but my experience was the water goes off overnight, so if you arise before 6am the water is cool. After that watch out,it is burning hot. Make sure to stay at least three days in Udaipur, it is well worth it. Not so many people begging as in Delhi and Mumbai. The local mosque keeps up a constant background of prayer calls to add to the mystique of the location
