I got one of the rooms w/ a lake view. The lake palace is a bit far but it still shimmers beautifully at night. The hotel has very beautiful hand-painted tasteful decorations. The room was impeccably clean w/ white towels, soft bed. The owners are quite nice. I took a cooking class w/ Sushma and it was great fun. The owners (husband and wife) were kind and helpful but not in-your-face at all, in fact a bit distant. It is not the cheapest place and doesn't have the best view but it has a pretty darn good one of the Lake Palace.

This is a spotlessly clean modern hotel with cheerful fresco paintings around the wall, which left it with a charming cosy feel.

The hotel is very new so the room and the bathroom were quite modern. The linen and bath towels were very good quality. The only downside was the room was a little small.

The bed was inner spring and very comfortable – this is a true treat in India!!

The laundry service was very good.

The host was very helpful and the hotel was centrally located to many restaurant and the attractions of Udaipur.

It is hard to get good accomodation especially during winter season in Udaipur. But we were very glad to find this exellent hotel, Kurishna Niwas.

We (me and mom) booked directly by the hotel's website.
This place is run by family member. so that, there are not many rooms, but you can feel experienced of heartwarming stay there.

One of the owners is indian artisan. he is very warm and helpful person.

The masala chai was wonderfull!!! still i cannot forget the taste.

Booked the hotel after stumbling across the website. Could not find any decent review on the net. So we call up the owner Mr. Jairaj who assured the good and worry free stay, booked on phone followed up on e-mail.

The hotel is bang on the main action area of Lal Ghat, which is not very clear from their web site. The lake view is bit limited from the room windows but the view from the rooftop is quite decent. The city palace and temple are stone throw away. There is good choice of restaurants around.

The rooms are bit smaller than the average rooms in the area for the same money, but a not a problem unless you are carrying more than 3-4 large bags. The rooms including beds were quite clean and recently refurbished resulting in clean toilers and bath, good air- conditioning ( split unit in each room).

All the rooms are beautifully decorated and hand painted with motifs and borders which add a touch of splendor to the rooms. Each floor and staircase is also pointed as well.

Since the owners stay on the first floor the atmosphere is more homelike and less business type and that is a welcome change from the routine hotel like approach, downside is that the staff is bit limited and one has to wait for the owners to get up and start the kitchen for the morning tea, which we only got at around 7:30 AM which is bot of a problem for early risers like us.

The owner Mr. Jairaj Soni is a renowned painter and one can see him create his masterpieces in the studio cum showroom below. His wife runs a Indian cooking class which we saw was quite popular among non-Indians.

The notice on the main door indicates that the door closes at 11:00 PM, though there are on issues if you want to stay late and inform the owner.

To summarize:

Upside: Good clean hotel, reasonable rooms, good hosts, great location

Downside: Smaller rooms than competition, kitchen with limited options.

but then you would not get disappointed.

Krishna Niwas is a family run traditional haveli which provides enriching cultural experiences as well as lovely views. The overall feeling is like staying with old friends rather than in an anonymous hotel. They provided us as much bottled water as we needed at no charge and offered us home-made dessert after we came back from another restaurant (again at no charge). The owner is a renowned artist who has exhibited in Europe and appears in various articles in French and German press. It was so interesting to see his beautiful miniatures and a painting commissioned by the Maharana. His wife is an excellent cook and the 6 of us attended her cooking class where lunch on the rooftop is included. In the evenings the owner played badminton with his son on the street outside the hotel and in the mornings the son greeted us with his excellent English before leaving for school. The rooms are small, cheerful and clean with nice views of the lake and Lake Palace. The showers and towels could use updating, but we gave them that feedback and they were very receptive. For around 30 Euros this is great value for money as it is.
