Supposed to be over 1200 years old. Considered to be the "unofficial" seventh "fort" of the Hindu God Muruga, the son of Shiva and Parvati. This place is located on top of the marudamalai hill in Coimbatore. This is the "end" of coimbatore on the marudamalai road. A taxi (Call taxi like +91-422-60603030) will take you there in about 40 minutes from downtown. PAy Rupees 20 at the entrance and the car can drive all the way to the top. There, you have to climb ( I believe about 108 steps). I went in the evening in August on a day when there are NO festivals and there was no crowd. After a pleasant climb, i purchased a "Special view" ticket for Rs 25 and quickly went into the sanctum sanctorum. The idol of Murugan is decorated beautifully. Outside there was a golden chariot procession and it was beautifully decorated. If you had the time, you can sit on the benches and look at the city from the top of the hill.
