I'm a sucker for nostalgia and old world establishments. So if you're expecting Geetha Canteen to be one of those new age air conditioned joints serving plate thali meals in a family ambienc.are left on the tables to go cold by the time you get to eat them. The rice is served piping hot and there has usually been a keerai/kootu whenever I"ve been there. The sambar is especially delicious with well cooked vegetables giving it a home cooked taste. The rasam is good though not outstanding and their other offering the puli kozhambu is mediocre. The vegetable is usually very good with very liitle oil which is a standard feature of the food served. If you happen to drop by on the day they serve 'potato curry' then consider yourself lucky.
As I stated earlier do not expect anything fancy here. However you will get good food which reminds you of home . The crowd is your regular office goer crowd stopping by for a quick lunch and the service is routine.Overall the establishment is a throwback to an earlier era when most of us had not yet experienced plate thalis in air conditioned joints selling at 200 bucks a plate. There are very few of these places left - venkateshwara lodge in kumbakonam, the mess inside ymca in chennai, krishna coffee bar in salem immediately coming to mind. It would definitely count as an unique dining experience where the food and the nostalgia for such places willl make you come back.
