Finally we could make it to the famous Meenakshi Temple of Madurai. We had taken a guide and id the darshan late in the evening at around 7 PM. Had a great darshan and a tour of the temple.

“A DIVINE EXPERIANCE”
Reviewed 7 May 2014

Went in last week of April with my extended family.A Divine Experience as i am a believer in ALMIGHTY.A very largeTemple with a large pond but unfortunately we could not have a dip in the Pond as it was closed.Surprisingly mobile photography is permitted with a ticket (Though cameras arenot allowed) but not in the innermost area. The art & the carvings will definitely let us know the greatness of our ancestors and the rich heritage to which we belong. Spend atleast 3 hours to watch & admire it.

“Holy temple”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

This temple is quite big and one can confuse easily inside. There are 2 main temple inside. One is lord Shiva and other is Meenakshi amma. There is always rush here so keep good time in hand. Architecture every where is marvelous. If less time in hand, take special darshan at ticket.

“A marvel!”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

This world renown temple is at the heart of Madurai as the city was built around the temple. With hundreds of years of rich cultural heritage, amazing architecture, sculptures and art this temple is steeped in history.

The temple is very well maintained, follows religious rituals and some of the key festivals in Madurai are celebrated here in a big way. The golden gopuram, lotus tank, hall of thousand pillars are noteworthy. The temple is in the midst of a busy shopping area and hence one can plan for retail therapy as well.

A must visit place in South India. A good time to visit is during the "Chithirai Thiruvizha" - "Meenakshi Thirukalyanam" festival, that is generally celebrated in April, which is also a festive time in Madurai.

“Impressive!”
Reviewed 29 April 2014

Bring lots of time, and start early enough in the morning. The sheer dimensions of this temple are breathtaking, the colorful decoration is fascinating. The busy life within temple walls is interesting. Dress appropriately, ideally festive Indian attire.
