“Good value for money, especially for Madurai, and check in/out 24hrs”
Reviewed 14 November 2013

I often travel to Madurai for business and to find a good accommodation, not too expensive, it's not so easy. This hotel is a good compromise: it is not perfect, especially the service could be improved, but the prices are correct (2.500 Rs for a single room and 2.800 Rs for a double), the rooms comfortable (especially the beds) and clean. Another great advantage is that they have check-in and check-out 24hrs. It means that if you arrive, like me, at 3am at the train station or the bus station (both at 5 minutes walking!) and you leave the same day at 9pm or 10pm, you only pay one day of stay! Instead of paying 2 nights, as most of the other hotels do.
Of course there are a couple of problems: the breakfast lounge is dark and super cold because of the a/c, the service is slow (and sometimes they forget things...), sometimes (but only sometimes) the staff at the reception is not so friendly and once they called me at 5am in my room asking me if I was checking out (of course not, since I was peacefully sleeping...)! Nevertheless, my overall opinion of this hotel is good, especially if compared to other hotels I tried in Madurai.

Room Tip: Better to chose the rooms from the 3rd floor onwards, they are more quiet and you don't have the...

It was nice to stay in hotel Madurai Residency. Good location and very calm. Room service was good and food was very good. Overall it was a very good experience. The Hotel is really wonderfully located and is walking distance from Railway station/Bus Stand and also near to Meenakshi temple and offers decent rooms at genuine price & the best thing the complimentary breakfast. The centrally air conditioning was working properly and the TV viewing was excellent. There is a travel desk which helps you with arrangements to nearby places like Kodaikanal etc.The decor is rich and antique. Rooms were very comfortable and staff was very responsive and cooperative.and it was definitely good value for money. Complimentary newspaper, complimentary shoe shine, and attached bathroom offering hot/cold showers, bathroom toiletries & shaving kit etc. I recommend to all..

Room Tip: As the Hotel is located in the street so any room serves the same purpose.

Very compact hotel on busy street. When we arrived, I wasn't sure it was the hotel but once inside, was very relieved. The hotel is very modern, with a staircase and glass elevator in the center of the lobby. The hotel had open air atrium to the higher floors. Upon arrival the porters received our bags and we were easily checked in. The elevator was being repaired then so we had to take a service elevator. But within a couple of hours, the main one was working. The hotel had wifi but only in the lobby. The lobby did have a lot of good seating.
The room was modern and clean with all amenities (even for Westerner). The room was somewhat compact. The bathroom was sufficient and clean but because we were on the second floor, it seemed like the noxious exhaust fumes from the street were coming in. We kept that door shut for that reason and the noise from the street. The room service was good and they had good selection on the menu. I was disappointed with breakfast. There was a lot of food but mostly Indian and the milk that was labeled "cold," was really hot! The location of the hotel was good. There were a lot of places to eat nearby. I was still hungry for western food so we walked to the British Bakery and it was really good, even real chocolate cake!! The hotel was also close to the beautiful Meenakshi Temple. After all the activities in Madurai, the hotel was a great place to come back to and put your feet up.

Good location. Very close to Meenakshi Amman temple - we walked to the temple in the morning. Helpful front desk. Nice spread in the morning breakfast. Rooms were clean. Had a nice sleep. They have a roof top restaurant from where one can get a great view of Madurai. But the food served during dinner was not good. There is a travel desk which helps you with arrangements to nearby places like Kodaikanal, Rameswaram etc. But one should ask for a driver who is really keen to show you the places.

I was there on a work trip recently and was not sure what to expect really. However, the hotel was very neat and clean, impressed on first sight. The stay was quite pleasant for the 3 nights that I spent there. Location is great, near the railway station as well as the temple. They had free wi-fi but which is accessible only in the lobby. Opted for the buffet breakfast which was a nice spread. They seem to get a lot of the touristy crowds as well. Would definitely come back around. Points to improve - the faucets and plumbing in the bathrooms could use an overhaul. Also the lift is terribly slow and tests your patience. If you're on the higher floors, you really are at its mercy. Keep the windows shut to keep out the mosquitoes and the road noise.

Room Tip: Pick the higher floors to get away from the mosquitoes and the hustle bustle of the streets

I made a trip to tirunelveli for pilgrimage on the way back thought of a stopover at Madurai. Since I had a good experience the first time never had the second thoughts of staying at Madurai Residency. This hotel is close to the All Time Grandeur Madurai Meenakshi Temple. I was tired driving from tirunelveli after my pilgrimage. Entered the Hotel inquired about the room, specifically told it was for a overnight stopover on a Friday and were about to leave the next morning. The lady immediately prompted in tamil to the front office staff to sell the Royal Suite which was Rs.4,500 asked for the Manager since I had a good experience last time and she curtly said that the Manager was resting and she could not disturb him at 6pm, Probably she doesn't think Manager is important for business. I always thought in Hospitality Industry were competition is so severe and neck deep how he can afford to rest at an very odd hour. I was surprised requested for an AC room which was Rs 2,800 but she said their was no rooms and literally chased me out, worried I came back to my SUV, five minutes further my wife got a flash of inquiring again with the hotel staff, she went inside and asked for Non AC room but was suggested AC Room and she was allotted, I was relieved. But this lady receptionist is audaciously incompetent and expects the guest to be tamil illiterate, So Sad, I pity her attitude. We were allotted room on 5th floor I requested for room in 1st or 2nd flood keeping the health of my wife in mind even though the computer was flashing vacancy she arrogantly pushed us to 5th floor. Does a hotel of this grade really deserve such incompetent, egregious and attitude driven Receptionist who chase away potential business and guests. Written complaint was lodged and the Manager profusely regretted for experience I was put through. The Rooms are good and the Bathrooms are spic and span except for the attitude of this receptionist.
