“Excellent view and a Good stay”
Reviewed 5 May 2012

I stayed for 2 days and 1 night at Sagar Resort. It is located around 2 Km from Ooty center at a very peacefull location on Ooty-Coonoor road.
The resort is situated on the slope of the hill and the cottages are so designed that you get a panoromic view of the Ketti valley.
Sitting in the large balcony of the cottage , you can see the mist covered montains and the toy train from ooty to coonor passing by, down in the Valley.
Cottages at Sagar hoilday resort in ooty are uniquely designed in the form of steps.
Overall Nice stay with excellent view.
Furnishing in the room is good enough. Room service is prompt and food is ok.
They have a children play area at the lower part of the resort and you can enjoy the mist filled mountains in the evening by spending some time in this area.

Pros: Excellent View
Very Peacfull
Cons: Since the resort is located on the slope of the valley, to reach the cottages you need to use the stairs (which would be quite difficult if your cottages is towards the lower part ) or you can use the movable trolley, but everytime you have to call someone from service to operate it.

It would be good to have your own transport since the resort is away from the nearest bus stand and market.

Overall i would give a rating of 7.5 on 10.

Nice rooms, location was very good. Each room has balcony with very good view. No bad experience. Two things needs to improve. 1. Lift to reach to rooms on down side was not working. 2. Although food quality is very good, Need more options in restaurant menu.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms on top level so that you won't need to climb much.

The place is in a very peaceful location away from the crowded main ooty. Every room has a well placed balcony which provides the best view of the valley. You can even see the toy train from the down the hill from the balcony. The room service is prompt and people are very helpful. The travel desk provides one of the best sight seeing package. Would love to go again and stay for a few more days :)

We had a 4 night group trip with families in ooty at this hotel in November and it offers excellent views of the valley. Each room has a big balcony that gives unobstructed view of the valley....no matter which room you stay. The rooms are built on a slope and looks beautiful amid fog...one can even notice the small train going from ooty to connoor from the balcony!!

The rooms are spacious and provided with sofa and chairs as well and basic amenities. However, no room heaters are provided and guests need to pay extra for heaters...unlike what you will find in many other hotels and hill stations.

The drawback is food and service....if you opt for meal package there are not many options to choose from...breakfast is buffet while lunch/dinner is a la carta. However, we did manage to request restaurant manager to prepare "out of the menu" dishes and they readily obliged because of our group size of 10+. Methi malai mutter was really good...as suggested by other travellers. Try your luck!

The location can be drawback if you dont have your vehicle since the hotel is little far from city centre/market area.

Must do while in ooty:
* go to connoor by toy train from ooty...just 1 hr journey and you can afford the first class ticket...goes through few tunnels and bridges and is quite enjoyable.
* connoor tea gardens
* rose garden in ooty
* spot elephants near bandipur national park on the way to ooty

Room Tip: try getting room at the top or middle to get the best views of Ketty valley...lower you go you may n...

Cottages at Sagar hoilday resort in ooty are uniquely designed in the form of steps. The view of valley from this place is simply the best. This is the best place to stay in ooty if you are planning to stay indoors. The only drawback of Sagar Hoilday Resort is it is a bit far from market area, though the vehicles going to market area are readily available. Hot water was available throughout the day. The green lawn at the bottom is good and has a jhoola(swing), seesaw and a slider. The restaurant at Sagar Holiday Resort serves very delicious food and is worth recommending.

Room Tip: Take a room in middle, so that its easier to walk up the stairs to reception as well as easier to ge...

On 23rd Aug 2011, I had called-up the resort and booked 2 rooms/cottages for 2 nights. Verbally, resort official/receptionist confirmed booking at a discounted rate of net Rs.1800/- per room per night (regular rate 2250/- incl. Tax). He also confirmed room location accessible by lift (considering senior citizen as one of the guest with foot injury).
In response, I requested for an E-mail confirmation, and sent mail on 23rd Aug 2011. After waiting for 2 days, I had sent a reminder on 25th Aug 2011, but again no reply. Later, I called them and requested for a confirmation E-mail. In response got assurance of a confirmation by next day. Again, after waiting for 2 days, I had called the General Manager. He assured that there wouldn’t be any problem but they are not able to send a confirmation E-mail due to faulty internet connectivity.
On 31st Aug. 2011, at the time of check-in, we came to know that we have to climb down three floors (by stairs) in order to reach allotted room. On inquiry at reception, got a standard reply that nothing can be done.
On 1st Sept 2011, in the morning, we came to know that the complimentary breakfast is not applicable for discounted rate of Rs 1800/- (Regular rate of 2250/-) and breakfast will cost Rs. 450/- (2 Adults and 1 child). Not sure what kind of discount they gave by cancelling complimentary breakfast!!
We feel that we were lucky that we didn’t do online booking and hadn’t paid in advance. So, on 1st Sept. 2011 itself, we checked-out from the hotel, and shifted to another.

I would recommend not opting for advance payment, and paying once you reach there after checking the property.
Otherwise, do not fall prey to false verbal assurance of the staff and/or General Manager, and get all details in writing.

Also, regarding service, we got all (food) bills delivered at room promptly, but request for pick-up of used-plates, drinking water etc. Were being attended only after couple of reminders.
As an alternative, you can consider acknowledging bills only after they clean up used-plates and refill drinking water.

We visited Ooty and stayed in this resort in sep'2010. It was a very nice stay experience because of the panoramic view available from the balcony.

Location:
A very scenic view of Ketty valley is available from the huge balcony of all the rooms. The lovely misty weather can be enjoyed with a cup of tea/coffee from the balcony. Toy train can also be seen from here.
Only problem with this location is its distance from the nearest bus stop and main market. This in turn make you fall on them for all the transportation, sight seeing, food needs as you will not get any facility close by.

Rooms:
Room was spacious. Sofa set was in bad condition. On cleanliness I will rate it 3.5/5.
They have an array of rooms on the slope, some are not far away from the main complex but for others you will have to use stairs so ask for closer rooms if you dont want to use stairs every time you are stepping out of your room.

Food:
Coming to food, tea was excellent, different taste than what we get at other places.
We had methi matar malai there which was so nice that it a bench mark for us now and we havent got anything even equivalent at different popular restaurants in Bangalore. Overall food was very nice.

Sight seeing package:
We booked indica cab for two days sightseeing from the travel desk in resort. This experience was actually bad. First they charged 3000/- for it and for lunch both days the cab driver stopped at horrible restaurants where they charged exorbitantly for worst food and had poor hygiene maintenance. In that restaurant, toilet did not have light also. Restaurant guys told me that it is so because of power cut and generator line is not available for toilet.
Horrible.., After creating some noise about it, they gave me candle.
The cab driver was very rude. I am sure he stopped at only those places where he had his commission set.

Lesson learnt: Dont book sight seeing cab with them.

Though other staff was courteous. And room service was ok.
