Stayed at kings cliff en route to palakkad from bandipur. Found the hotel with some difficulty....no sign boards. Even the board at entrance can be easily missed. Better to ask for Earl's secret at ooty town to get directions. Check in was smooth. Room was just next to reception. Its a large colonial bungalow. ..so the adjoining room was the restaurant. Won't be making any comments on the room as its not correct to criticise a 150 yr old property. If you want modern rooms with all other facilities like play area, entertainment zone etc look somewhere else. You will get decent food and the fire place is the only attraction. No decent view from the room / resort. Kids get bored due to lack of activities. Staff is very helpful and courteous. The restaurant is their main venture and the rooms are just add ons. Don't expect any thing more than bed breakfast and fire place!

I've been eating here for about 10 years now, even stayed once. Food is great, limited menu but great taste. Ambience, surroundings, service are all spot on. Rooms are not exactly luxurious but full of antique furniture and quaint.
Would I recommend? Yes, especially for couples looking for a peaceful holiday

King's Cliff is an old colonial style property maintained in its old grandeur, under the possible economic constraints.
The approach is through the winding road from Charing cross building up the hill station excitement and leads up to the lawns of this property.
The food here is good served well but the wait period is very high. But you don't mind that as you have come here to relax. It is priced higher than it deserves.
But still worth a visit due to its standing in the history of the station and well cooked and tasty food.
Be careful to find a place away from the kitchen in the dining hall otherwise the smoke and smell will interfere with your dining experience.
Lot of room for improvement.

I chose King's cliff based on one of my colleague's recommendation. The property is old and still maintains it's historic charm. The location of the hotel is also excellent. The property has huge lawn and open area, so if you are travelling with a toddler you cant ask for more.

One best part of this property is the in-house restaurant. Once we had food there and decided to have all the meals there during our stay in ooty. I may be writing a separate review for the restaurant.

The restaurant also arrange a live music in the evening which just make your dinner experience memorable.

Now comes the experiences which definitely shadow all the goodness. Service and quality of service was really disappointing. I also have to call the room service 2-3 times to get anything done. From getting the fire place set up to restaurant service in room. I have stayed in many hotels and never seen a waiter serving food on a dirty table. I think a dirty table has to be cleaned before serving food. Even the on duty manager almost made us missed our train. I asked him to arrange a taxi well in advance but he did not even call anyone and gave me an excuse that MD arrived to take a cash so i could not do it :(( .. Anyways they have lot of scope for improvement here.

But i still wanna keep the hotel in good category because it has lot to offer.

King's Cliff is an old English property that has been renovated into a small and mostly well thought out hotel. We arranged for the hotel to collect us from Coimbatore airport and we enjoyed the trip up through the hills to the hotel which looks down on Ooty town centre.

We arrived at the front desk and found it hard to understand the accent of the staff member who spoke quite quickly but we worked out about the meal times. We were initially taken to the wrong room which was thankfully corrected when another couple showed up.

The property has lots of character with the old buildings nicely restored. However, due to their design the rooms are a little gloomy and the bathrooms a little sparse. Due to the temperature drop at night the room got very cold as well. We had dinner at Earl's Secret and the food was decent and the dining room quite atmospheric. Breakfast was served in the green house each morning but due to the heat generated through the glass the buffet breakfast dried out very quickly. The made to order eggs were nice however.

On checkout we asked for a taxi to the station and at no time did we feel confident that it would turn up and the staff member was not able to tell us how long we would have to wait.

If the service was more polished this could have been a 5 star rating rather than a four.

Whilst this was not a bad stay, there might be better choices,
