We lived in Lake View for 2 days and had cottage number 43, 44 and 45. Rooms are clean but horrible, doors have broken. Room service is fast. It is very down position. we tired to go up and come down as it may be 100 steps. It is not a Hotel not Resort as it is in 8 Acre Area, Very distant to reception and not much provisions for guest. There is no such a place for kids playing. In Night kids fear surely. I don't recommend who are going with family and kids but couples. And If near to reception counter then O.K. They only need to look more after the maintenance of grasses and wild weeds that seems to have grown here and there and everywhere. They need to expand quality of food and menu as fixed menu of Rs. 125/- bill breakfast as tea/coffee Rs. 20/- (Good for those who diet only) , But Restaurant staff is very polite.
I will start straight with the pros and cons:
> Spacious rooms
> well maintained rooms
> Lovely view from the hill where this resort is located
> Independent villas - those other than deluxe have a fireplace as well
> Not very far from the city
> Near Ooty lake, one of the biggest attractions in Ooty
> Value for money
> I think for the price and location it is the best deal if you have your own transport (do read the cons as well to decide).
> Parking is outside your cottage, so that is very convenient.
> To have comfortable access to this hotel you must have your own/all time hired vehicle.
> The roads connecting the hotel from various directions can be quite dark and desolate in the night so either reach back before the sunset or ensure you are in a group. (As such Ooty is a safe place relatively but this is just a cautionary note)
> Room service - can be very slow if the resort is packed upto 45 minutes for a single order.
> Limited service hours - service closes at 10.30pm. So in the cold if you need hot water, any other help - you are on your own, phones will go unanswered as staff would not be there. you cannot carry your hot-plate/induction heater as well - the hotel will fine you Rs 3000/- (plus a possibility of the fuse blowing with you being off power).
> heater is separate on request. Rs 300/- is charged - that I think is alright but you cannot put the geyser and the heater together, the fuse would blow. Geyser may take upto 45 mins to warm the water.
> Disappointing breakfast menu. On weekends when rush is more they do not seem to match the speed of the guests eating, run out of food and have a very limited choice of food items.
> when it drizzles, any room service people entering your room will have the wet shoes dirty the room for sure as they are themselves dripping water and shoes would be muddy travelling the hill from the restaurant at the top.
However I must say that this was my 2nd trip but this time it was with a few families with kids so it was a little inconvenient. It would probably have not mattered much if it is for families with no kids. We had our own vehicles so travelling was also no an issue. the major concern was a limited timing of the service.
In total we do find this place lovely, well located with spacious rooms and fireplace adds to the fun.
We lived in Lake View for 2 days and had cottage number 61. Rooms are clean n well furnished.Room service is fast too. We did not try the food there. So I can't really comment on that.
They only need to look more after the maintainance of grasses and wild weeds that seems to have grown here and there and everywhere, which in turn makes it difficult to walk in and around the hotel area.
The lake can not be seen really from the hotel but the feeling of staying at a real height is awsome. Room number 114-116 give a good valley view and I would like to live in those, when I visit Ooty the next time.
Very affordable hotel !!
Reasonable place for the price paid. Nothing spectacular about the hotel but the service is prompt and timely.
The rooms were not great and there was definitely no "lake view" from any of the rooms we checked out. The good part was the fire-place which ensures some warmth since the floors are vitrified tiles and get very cold since there is no carpeting.
The restaurant was reasonable and the food quantities were sufficinet though the breakfast was a let-down since there was no option of ala-carte and only a buffet for Rs 120 which definitely wasn't worth the amount.
We used the hotel travel desk for planning all our outings and it was well taken care of.
All in all, a reasonable place to stay in if on a holiday. Nothing spectaular but wont leave you disappointed as well.
We went to Ooty on July 21, 2013 with the plans of staying 2-3 days there. However, due to bad planning on our part, our whole vacation was rained out and we were forced to stay inside the hotel room. Although the hotel claims to have a lake view, it is rather limited.
I would however like to commend the hotel on their quality of service. Whatever we asked for was delivered promptly. Even though they discouraged us from ordering food via room service since it would become cold by the time it reaches us, we insisted..since none of us wanted to walk through the wet grass and mud to the restaurant. However, surprisingly, the food was delivered hot and I would say it tasted pretty good.. contrary to our expectations on reading other reviews.
Overall, if not for the weather, we would have really enjoyed our stay there.
