For all the reviewers bellyaching about how it's disgusting and 'they have no concept of room service'.. this is a youth hostel not a hotel!

It kind of reminds me of youth hostels in Wales in the 1980/90s as a kid on scout / school trips, a bit damp, pretty spartan and generally looking untouched since the war. The communal areas are spotless though.

Notwithstanding, that's part of it's charm, and for the price it's unbeatable, 130 rupees for the dorm, which I got to myself. If you want bath towels and soap go and stay in a hotel.

i visited this place during dec'13 and booked 1 standard room. the property is i think 150 year old and give feeling of british era hotels. it is spacious and is good if you had children with you . there is small garden with playing instruments for children.
i enjoyed daily morning tea seating in lawn which provides a view of ooty town.
the rooms are neat and clean, although of old fashion. the only problem is of hot water which is not available for 24 hours as per their policy. although the geasers are fitted inside bathroom, but it takes minimum 1/2 hour to get hot water.
they had a restaurant which provides a lunch/dinner which is sufficient for 2 persons for rs. 175. the food is average.
comparing with other hotels this is the best bet to enjoy atsomsphere of ooty.
booking can be done by phone but do well in advance.

Room Tip: cottages are farther from reception so might have service problem. the rooms near the reception are...

Stayed one night with family & friends in the Deluxe Cottages 24 & 25. Rooms/bath very poor Maintanance. Checked in at 2PM, no electricity till 8PM. Rooms damp due to rains. Can be maintained better. Staff good, especially Maintanance Staff who took care of the power supply.
For the price one pays, better/clean rooms available in Ooty, but the atmosphere & setting in YWCA is very good.

We stayed here for one night, our room had a very high ceiling and tin roof, we were freezing cold all night. The bathrooms are separate to the rooms upstairs, across a corridor. No showers, just taps and a bucket.

Pros are the proximity to the bus stand and there's certainly plenty of space in the rooms and social areas.

We checked out the next morning.
