first impression was not great. the rooms are very 'homestay' which is exactly as advertised. however, I'd like to see rooms that look a bit more updated. It felt like I was staying in their teenagers' former bedroom room -- so like stay at an old family friend's house. the bathrooms were the type where you take a shower and soak the bathroom -- made a bit better b/c they provided shower curtains which helped (and again was a rare experience in these type of bathrooms where we stayed elsewhere).

there was an AMAZING rooftop that was lovely place to read a book, watch a sunset, watch a sunrise and hang out. We were there during Diwali and saw a great fireworks display from the rooftop.

the rooms were basic -- India TV stations, A/C, clean sheets and towels (which I learned you can't take for granted). The breakfast was made to order basic western fare -- option of eggs, toast, Indian jam (colored pectin) and butter, nescafe/tea -- no Indian options.

The owner was super nice and clearly proud of his place and wanted you to have a good experience.

The hotel is far from the centre of Agra and even you can see Taj Mahal from the roof of the hotel it is still a long distance to the downtown. The most disappinting thing is the size of rooms - no place to put you bags, unefficient AC, noisy fan. The frdge in our room remembers Second World War or just after;-))) - it was just a store device as it was not cooling at all !!! Stairs are steep so it is difficult to carry your bags to and from the room. Beakfasts were basic. The only good point in ths place is the Owner-helpful and nice. The property is just a mistake if you go there. Sorry to say that but it is just true.....

Perfectly fine accommodation at a super reasonable price. The room was clean as was the bathroom; everything functioned fine. We stayed in the house across the street from the main house with the kitchen. I did wake up to loud snoring during the night - turns out it wasn't my bed mate but some bloke sleeping in the next courtyard! For me, it added charm to whole experience.
We prearranged a pick up at the train station which was wise since we arrived later than expected. We lucked out with dinner as Mrs. Lamba had just finished teaching a vegetarian cooking class and there was enough food for us to join in the feast. Simple, but delicious homemade food: dal, paneer, and aloo gobi.
Beware of the driver Lala. Col. Lamba arranged for him to take us around the next day (with our bags) and then drop us at the train station. He was painfully insistent about taking us to a variety of workshops (rugs, marble) despite the itinerary agreed upon with Col. Lamba.

We had expected a homely family atmosphere, which it certainly didn't have. The room was OK, but the loo was in danger of overflowing evey time it was flushed and the shower just didn't have any water. The basin tap didn't have more than a drip either. We were offered tea/coffee on arrival in a friendly way of welcoming guests, but were then charged for it when we paid the bill. The dinner on night one seemed quite pleasant, but was an exact repeat on night two. We had read how friendly and chatty Col Lamba and his wife are, but they were not really interested at all. The bill for the dinners was really excessive, and way over the top for what we had.

As soon as we were picked up from the Agra train station, we knew that we were in good hands. Col Lamba runs a very good homestay - we felt totally safe there. He met us at reception and registered our details and collected our payment. He then swiftly organized our driver from Agra to Jaipur and also briefed us about our day tour - then warmly sent us on our way.

We asked for driver and guide for our day tour and got a very knowledgable and articulate ex-army gentleman, Sanjay - with little gems of information about the Taj Mahal. He even took really good photos of us because he knew all the special photo spots (saved us from paying the many "professional" photographers hanging around at the Taj Mahal).

At the end of the day, we came back to the homestay and to our homey room. The bathroom wasn't ensuite, but it didn't worry us. We didn't even worry about leaving our room door unlocked for short periods. There was lots of privacy as homestay staff stayed discreetly out of our way but magically appeared when needed.

After we had gotten cleaned up, we were told that dinner was ready. Aaaah bliss. The cook had prepared a delicious vegetarian dinner of fried rice, a vegetable dish (can't remember the name), palak paneer, dhal and chapatti. So much for just the 2 of us. We finished off with a cup of hot tea and a sweet treat (which we absolutely loved and asked the next day, to be brought to a shop to buy a big box of it to bring home). Panchy "Gajak" (ask for it - it's supposed to be an Agra specialty. Like peanut brittle, but with sesame seeds, cashews and pistachios and spiced with cardamon).

It's not for travellers who want lots of hotel facilities and activities. It's for travellers who want a safe, comfortable and homey place to rest after a long day of sightseeing. You'll definitely experience warm Indian hospitality here.

Nice, friendy people. The homestay is located in a friendly, quit street not to far away from the city. The roof terrace is nice and has a view on the Taj Mahal.
For site seeing I can recommend to hire the 'house' auto riksja driver Vijay.
The rooms have now real windows and are a bit out dated furnished.

this homestay was really good - the colonel and his wife were very friendly and keen to know about our travels. they made every effort to ensure that our stay was comfortable. The food was good and the room was very comfortable without being too oppulent. Ask for VJ the rickshaw driver - he looked after us so, so well and we were very happy with his service too!!!!
