this hotel is dirty, noisy and just not a good place to stay, i stayed here 1 sleepless night then checked out moved to hotel sheela a much better option.
they also have there own booking agency/ internet shop that as it turned out is the biggest rip off joint around i payed like double the regular booking fee,s to other places. i think its name was flighttraja or something i would recomend this less than the hotel!! which is really saying something

This hotel was ok for what you may need for 1 or 2 nights ,
The front rooms are VERY noisey, but great views of the Tag Mahal, dont pay too much 500rupees for the top roof room, They do make a great cup of tea or coffee .

This place although a little expensive due to its place in the lonely planet guide is a good place to stay- the price can probably be haggled further. It has a nice view from the roof and the rooms are comfortable, with a big comfy bed. Our shower head broke first time we used it and they fixed it immediately no questions asked which was good to see. The location is great to the Taj Mahal and the staff are quite friendly.

I was quoted a good price over the phone of 400 rupees for a double room. The hotel is fine for the price. However, on checkout the rate was doubled, with the manager saying "when you arrived I told you the room was 800 and you said 'ok'." I simply said no, that I would pay the quoted price, while he lowered his demands and finally asked for "just 100 rupees more." I simply paid the original rate. These things don't bother me too much when they happen, but I'm sure some people are bullied into paying more. To top it off, when I was was leaving twenty minutes later a German girl at the reception was having the exact same conversation! Avoid this hotel. It shouldn't be in the Rough Guide. There are loads of places to stay in Taj Ganj.

We 5 people stayed for two nights in two double bed rooms for Rs 1708 only. Its very cheap. And very close to taj mahal. The room is avg , not so clean, But according to price its advisable to get it. Dont eat in the hotel's own restaurant its costly and poor food quality. you vcan get cheaper and better food nearby. Best this is its a free wifi hotel. If you go with friends get it. if you go with family, dont get it, Get a cleaner hotel.

this is my email to the Rough Guide....

Hello Rough Guide

I booked this hotel for 2 nights, (yesterday and tonight) and told
them we would be arriving from Jaipur at 2130 yesterday evening. They
said fine, took my name and said there would be a double room
available for 500Rs per night.

When we arrived on time, they were expecting us and gave us the key
for the room. On first impressions we thought it looked a bit grotty,
but hey, this is budget accommodation in India, and the bedsheets
looked clean. On further inspection, the room was a total joke, with
the ceiling exposed and peeling (with plaster falling on us on the
bed), exposed electrics, a broken window, no bathroom light, a
cupboard full of old rags and building equipment, and oil leaking from
the fan which dripped on us as it revolved.

We went to complain to the manager who said that he was there 24 hours
a day to help with anything. He was not interested in our complaint,
said that this was the only room available and we were lucky to have
it as it was actually under construction (no ****!) and he would move
us tomorrow to a nicer room. He also insisted that 500Rs was a good
price for this room! One of the other men came and wiped the fan and
insisted it was fine even though there was oil splattered all over the
bed sheets.

When we left (now at 11pm) they repeated we were lucky to have a room
because they were full. I suggested that if they are full, they should
tell that to someone calling to make a reservation this, and not give
them a substandard room for an exorbitant price.

I have traveled in India extensively and am aware of prices, standards
and what to (and what not to) expect.

I want to tell you what travellers are offered at this hotel as I feel
that the review given in the Rough Guide is not accurate. I have
looked on Trip Adviser too and seen similar comments about the GH.

I have stayed in some pretty **** places around the world, but for the
price demanded and the unhelpful nature of the owners I feel I have to
write in about this.

Photos attached.
