“Value for Money Stay”
Reviewed 4 February 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights in beginning Feb 2012 based on trip advisor reviews. It turned out to be one of the best stays of our trip...

The property is located around 2 kms from Taj Mahal East Gate entrance (20 mins walking distance).. TDI mall is at stone throw distance & it is worth trying food at Pinch of Spice, which is around 1km from the accommodation... All the rooms are basic and serves the purpose... Most imporatntly it is clean... Varun & his entire family runs the show...

Honestly, it is home away from home... The highlight of our stay were the Kochar's (Aunty, Varun, Vandana, Parul)... they were fabulous... not to mention Varun's almost 3yrs old powerhouse son "Vihaan".... Varun & family are friendly and will ensure the stay is comfortable and memorable...

Our concept of homestay is to meet interesting individuals, understand local culture and eat home cooked meals... We have to confess Palmstay did justice to our stay... The prathas and rajma (beans) chawal (rice) was mind blowing...

We will definitely recommend this place and whilst in Agra we will stay here...

Stayed for just one night in December as part of a one month trip through northern India as a result of a recommendation from someone we met on our trip.

Varun and his family couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome and at home at Palmstay.

The rooms are simple, comfortable and clean, with TV and simple bathroom that had good hot water. Our room was at the front of the property with a balcony overlooking the street. The area seemed fairly nice and quiet although the street was being dug up while we were there.

There’s a Maccas at one end of the street if you are craving home comforts and the Taj is only a short walk away so the location is pretty much spot on.

In a city like Agra, where the accommodation has a really bad reputation for being overpriced and poor quality, Palmstay must be considered a pretty decent option.

Would be more than happy to stay here again and would happily recommend to others looking for a simple, friendly place to stay in Agra.

Stayed in a double room with basic comfort but very clean, with attached bathroom. Enjoyed chatting with the owners and other guests around a cup of coffee. Of course this is Agra, a place full of clever scams where you can easily get paranoid and tend not to trust anyone, but the friendly owner was sincere, had very good tips, and arranged decent railway pickup and other taxi offers for us. He refused to write us a receipt for the overnight stay though. Also, if you stay there, try to get a room on the back side, the neighbour's generator is pretty loud if power decides to fail in the middle of the night... Apart from that, definitely a good option in Agra for a stay close to the Taj.

This was the ninth place we stayed in our month long trip, December 2011 – everywhere booked based on Trip Advisor reviews and all arranged by ourselves directly by email.

Palmstay is a good budget place to stay and easy walk to the Taj which is an amazing building. Quite honestly has never been on my list of places to see, but I am so glad that I made the effort. It gave me goose pimples on sight.

Good location, clean, tidy, safe and excellent value –recommend – what more can we say. Only one point that our room did not have a lock which meant that we did not feel entirely comfortable. This could be easily fixed.

Varun and his family were welcoming and most helpful. On arrival, Varun drew us a map and helped with our planning so that on the first day we saw the Red Fort (since Taj closed on Fridays) and the next day went to the Taj.

In particular he recommended a great restaurant selling South Indian Cuisine which we really enjoyed after our earlier break in Kerala.

We also enjoyed some cups of tea with the locals opposite.
He also provided advice on hiring rickshaws which was necessary for the Fort but not the Taj.

Transfers from and to the Agra Cantt railway station were good.

Our full itinerary was Kerala: Kochi-Sajhome (3 nights), Munnar-Royal Mist (4 nights), Alleppey-Raheem Residency (2 nights), Kerala Backwaters-Lakes and Lagoons (2 nights)

Mumbai-Westin Garden City (5 nights)

Rajasthan: Jaisalmer-Hotel Pleasant Haveli (5 nights), Jodhpur-Ratan Vilas (2 nights), Jaipur-Anuraag Villa (3 nights)

Agra for Taj Mahal-Palmstay (1 night), New Delhi-Hotel Palace Heights (2 nights)

Recommended by friends who stayed here a few weeks back, we were driving through Agra and had not booked. Got their number and luckily they had a room available. Nice Basic and very clean room. Lovely common sitting area where we enjoyed a cuppa coffee and chatted with the other guests.Very close to the Taj and next to the Radisson hotel. Met the owners for 5 minutes as we arrived late at night and checked out early morning. Young chatty couple who run this place. Good for a night's halt.

This was one of the homeliest places we have stayed in india in 8 weeks of travel through india. Located about 15 min leisurely walk to the east gate of the Taj Mahal, and conveniently placed to a brand new mall.
Varun & family get involved with making your stay the most comfortable possible, His mum treats everyone like they are a treasured part of the family, she also is the cook making the best parathas ive had in india but most importantly the best cup of tea going round!. if you have an early train she even gets up to make you something you can eat on the way!
Rooms are clean if a little cold ( there was a cold snap round the time we stayed so dont let this put you off) just ask for more blankets and they will accomodate you.
Great value, only a short auto rikshaw from the main activities this home stay is well worth money should you wish to stay.

This was our first homestay (B&B) in India, we (family of four plus 1 friend) stayed for two nights and it was an awesome experience. We had been pretty shocked by India after our initial arrival in Delhi and paranoid about getting ripped off everywhere. We wanted a nice clean place to stay without spending a lot of money. We found Palmstay a lovely place to stay and Varun's excellent English, combined with his sincerity and honesty allowed us to relax and enjoy the area. The Taj was amazing, as was ancient city north of Agra and the bird santuary! Varun found us a taxi to get us around both days, pick us and drop us at the train, and Varun helped negotiate a fair rate for us. Varun's mom cooked us dinner one night, which was delicious, and while cleaning us his wife chatted with us about life in India, political canidates, etc... This personal chat was a highlight and part of why staying with this kind family can be so much fun.

Room Tip: If it is winter and cold, I suggest avoiding the far back room that is entered through a secondary d...
