“Excellent hotel but overpriced”
Reviewed 1 May 2014 via mobile

The hotel itself is stunning and in a great location. Rooms very large and beautiful as well as lovely bathrooms. The swimming pool is fantastic. What lets this hotel down is the reception staff who don't seem that eager to help, often giving short one word answers and often picking up their phones mid conversation. The other main disappointment was the price of everything in the hotel. The food isn't great and the first evening we ate at their buffet. There is no prices for anything but we had one beer each and the price was over £50 which is a lot for what it was. The beers here are the most expensive you will find in India at 550 rupees. During our holiday we stayed in some top class hotels including the taj palace in Mumbai and this was more expensive than there! The second night we even went to the Oberoi down the road for dinner which was also cheaper and much tastier! When we asked for a taxi to the train station the front desk quoted a ridiculous price which we refused, went to the street and paid a quarter of what was asked by the hotel.

An Excellent Hotel and a beautiful property, the Hotel is designed around Mughal architecture with a center Garden and small palace complex housing 8 rooms each with their own secluded gardens for added privacy. You feel like you are truly staying at a Mughal palace. The rooms are spacious, and the service is good. The Pool is one of the biggest and best in Agra. The children's play area is very well planned. The staff attends to your needs all the time. Tried their best to make you feel comfortable. We reached Agra early in the morning and were given a room at 11:00 and rather than the regular chekin time of 2:00 pm. we really appreciate the extra effort the staff goes to accommodate us.
But being a Star rated property there were issues that should not be there. Like the towels at the Pool were smelling of Spa oils and the attendant agreed that they borrowed the towels from the Spa.
The food at the Buffet was average though the spread was fairly good and covered 5 different cuisines.

Wyndham Grand Agra........keep it up!!!

This is a stunning hotel - it is visually fantastic. The food is also very good.

Unfortunately the reception staff are not friendly at all - its all men, who huddle together like schoolboys and joke or giggle -even when you, the customer, are waiting. We didn't feel at all at ease. The front of house desperately needs a sincere woman's touch.

It was a shame because this was a great hotel.

How to do this. The people at the front desk are from one world and the rest of the people are from another. In the first world, they are all kings and dictate their verdict. In the second world, the can't do enough for you and are a pleasure to work with. I left a do not disturb sign on my door for a day and one of the cleaning people asked my wife if he could get a doctor for me. We asked for a late checkout from the first world and were told that they were full and so no. Seeing that at best they were at 20%, I asked someone in the restaurant what they expected for dinner and he said at best 20 people. So if you go by people, you can find better.

The pool is very nice. The prices for stuff like food is high, but it will be for any fancy hotel in town. If you want local food, which is very good and much less money, find a ride.

Room Tip: The bottom floors are not at all private.

We were a party of 6 quite tired Norwegian seniors when we arrived at the Grand Wyndham. A well trained front desk staff handed over the keys to our rooms without delay. My room was well equipped, maybe a bit outdated, but I enjoyed all the amenities offered. We had a small fare in the restaurant before going to bed. I had a good nights sleep and had a refreshing swim in the pool. However, I think some maintenance is needed, especially at the pool. Such a nice environment deserves the attention of senior staff in order to keep their resort in good shape. After my early morning swim, I had breakfast. As it was my first trip to India, I was somehow not quite familiar with their food, but a well prepared omelette with all vegetable ingredients made it up and was a good start into the day. Unfortunately, upon my departure, I forgot the base station of an electrical equipment, I carried with me and I am still hoping to get it back. Once again the setting of the hotel is five star although the hotel needs attention regarding maintenance. Now, going to Agra: it is all about Taj Mahal. It is said to visit that site at least 4 times a day - we appreciated Taj Mahal in the sunset - what a beautiful experience. In fact you`ll forget most of what you have seen along the road, it just is fantastic. Yet, another observation: where were all the tourists? We just met natives of India, they were the undisputable majority. Ask them, before taking pictures.

Room Tip: All rooms were in a quiet location.

The property is stunningly beautiful, the rooms are well equipped and comfortable. Sleeping quality is 5 stars. The service is horrible though. Upon arrival had to brave the two first flights of stairs with the luggage ourselves. The reception was confused. After some time we signed someone else`s reservation and they crossed out the name. The porter brought the lugggage to our room and was appearently unhappy with the tip as he turned around, talking to himself in Hindi (?) while leaving the room. Most shocking for a hotel of this class was when the lady in the reception refused to ring a restaurant for us to find out if it`s open. We tried from the room before but couldn`t get through. Eventually the manager (?) came over to help us to make a phone call... probably because they wanted us to disappear. The rooms are very good value for money, but extras will cost a bomb (large kingfisher beer consumed in the room INR556, breakfast for 2 persons INR1.710). Overall: Just to sleep here is fantastic if you don`t expect any service or friendly faces.
