“Hotel Stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 September 2012

Hotel location is not good at all, surrounding is not clean at all. Breakfast quality is poor, same old menu, also very limited. Restaurant staff is professional at all. Food was good, especially dal & chicken biriyani. Travel desk is very very smart, try to avoid taking taxi from hotel.

Dont be fooled by the swanky pics on the website. We went through booking.com and our room was pretty basic. Best part about the hotel is location. Easy to get round Agra and get to taj mahal. Otherwise everything else is mediocre given they charge Inr 2,600 for a std room.

Staff - no smiles, very cold and got one word answers from the reception guys when asking for tips around places to eat, getting about and so on. Also one gets preferential treatment if you happen to be Caucasian! Another couple checked in at the same time who happened to be American and they were given welcome drinks and red carpet treatment and we were left to our own devices being of Indian origin. Shameful!

Room - no double bed - they push two singles together. You've got to let the hot water run for 15 mins before you get any decent hot water. You need to schlep over to reception to renew your wifi pwrd every 2 hours and they won't give you long term vouchers for your whole stay!

Hotel - corridors had a strange smell. Ladies toilets in the lobby area were filthy both times we had to use them.

We wouldn't go back.

I'l start with the positives:
* Great price
* Good location

Spoilt by:
* Major damp problems throughout the hotel - had to change two rooms upon arrival as both had floors and bedding that were wet. Arriving back after dinner to one of the new rooms to find once again the bedding was damp.
* TV not working
* Shower not working and as we were checking out that morning and had already changed rooms once we were just relieved to be leaving so did not bother to complain again.
* Beware of 'complimentary driver's quaters' this was NOT adequate - no pillow or sheet given and very poor accomodation - little more than a shack. Thankfully, we checked upon arrival and organised an alternative room.

Booked this hotel after reading other reviews on this website and was glab to have followed everyone's advice. Badged as a Luxury or "Boutique" Hotel, this hotel isn't up their with some of the other splendid properties (the Oberoi or Taj chains etc) that you find in India, however it does stand out in the neighbourhood in which it sits :) The Hotel was new, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and the amenities on the mark. There is a nice swimming pool at the back and the restaurant served some tasty food. Wifi was free also which was a big bonus. The location is great for a visit to the Taj, as it is only a 10min walk to the Taj Ticket office and a 15-20min walk to the East gate from the hotel's front door. If you're not too keen on walking then you can barter a rickshaw to take you most of the way for around 10 rupees or 20 if you can't be bother in haggling too hard (note, the street leading up to the gate is closed to most traffic so you will either have to walk the last 800m or jump on the courtesy carts provided that leave from the Ticket office). All of this aside, the thing that really does it for me however is the price. INR 2400 rupees for the night is a great price for a hotel of this standard is such a location.

The condition of the hotel was excellent. The rooms and common areas were new and maintained well. We always saw at least a few staff members cleaning all day. The pool was clean and we spent many hours there. I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Agra. The only downside to this hotel was the inconsistency in the breakfast quality. Some days it was good, other days below average. This might be due to the mix of people that came, many from outside of India and within so they needed to have a large variety of food. The breakfast was the only thing that reduced the stay to “great” instead of “excellent”.
Also a note for anyone wanting to stay there. In order to save electricity the hotel turns off the hot water heater after the morning. However, they will turn it on upon request (which they did immediately as soon as we called).

The place to stay at Agra for someone looking beyond lodges and guest houses but not willing to pay for the Radisson and Oberoi. Clean, very comfortable rooms and a decent free breakfast. All this at a prime location near the Taj mahal. Fantastic value!
