The Khas Mahal was built by Shah Jahan for his daughters, Jahanara and Roshanara. Clearly no expense was spared.

This was a fascinating place. It served both as a citadel and palace; the Moghuls certainly knew how to combine creature comforts with martial necessity.

The city of Agra has a history and also this fort. This fort seemed stronger, strategic and well built than the Red Fort in Delhi. Call it Karma. Shah Jahan was imprisoned here by his own son Aurangzeb for spending people's money to build a grand structure called Taj Mahal.

The place has significant piece of history and it actually makes sense to hire a guide. But there are just too many of them out there. The fort is quite large and has great halls, baths, court rooms, kitchens etc. It also offers a lovely riverside view of the Taj Mahal at a distance.
