Vast area of palaces and other buildings. It has changed since I was there in 2006, especially the apt of the Maharashtra as now it closed off by wire mesh, where we walked all around before. Also the wild and naughty monkies were not around.

Not to be missed while in Agra, the history and beauty of the place are reasons to pay a visit. Recommend getting a guide to explain the details and take you to the specific places

Its a place where photographers can spend lot of time clicking pics from different angles..there are many monkeys so take care of your belongings..
Tip: do visit the point from where you get view of taj mahal..if ur camera has a good zoom lens, it l b a treat to click some..
If you are interested to know the history and if you are not willing to pay for a guide, then follow people who has hired a guide..

Visited Agra fort in the beginning of July 2014. I chose the self guided audio tour on the LHS once you pay the entry fee and pass through the first main gate/arch way. After all the touts hassling at each place in india the headphones and map for the self guided tour are a good break from the constant barrage of touts etc. Also the audio is in a voice that is 100% understandable so all of the small details of the fort are not lost in translation as much is in India.Great views of the Taj as well. There is also a viewing area of the Taj on the other side of the river which I found out about too late.. Would be perfect for sunrise pics ...

The Agra Fort is huge and built out of sandstone in the Mughal style. It was built in only 8 years by Akbar between 1565 and 1573 with over a 1,000,000 workers. The fortress gets its name from the red limestone used to cover the 2.5 km walls that rise above a moat. Inside the walls are many fairy tale like palaces. One of which was used to imprison Emperor Shah Jahan, the same person who build the Taj Mahal. The Emperor Shah Jahan, who built the Taj Mahal, was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb (not being the chosen one to succeed his father, Aurangzeb killed his 2 brothers) in Agra Fort, from which he had a view of the Taj being erected for his deceased wife. Shah Jahan is said to have died in the Musamman Burj, a tower with a beautiful marble balcony.
