“take foot covers or socks”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 December 2013

As with many sites in India, you must remove your shoes prior to entering. While that is usually not so bad, there are a lot of pigeons on the square of the Jama Masjid and that means, of course, there is a lot of pigeon excrement on the ground... I would suggest taking some socks you don't care too much about or some foot covers that would be acceptable.

With that covered, this is a very large, grand mosque that is still actively used. It is definitely worth a visit.

“Not really worth a visit”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 December 2013

It was not an interesting visit, especially that we had already been to Jama Masjid in Delhi and Fatehpur Sikri. The one in Agra appeared to be the least impressive, so you would not regret omitting it. If you decide to visit, be prepared for tips (for the "guide", the person looking after shoes, and others) as well a "voluntary" donation for the mosque (extremely high amounts suggested, follow your own mind).

“If you haven't seen the Delhi's...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 November 2013

...you can drop by. They are almost similar in design. Delhi's Jama is much bigger and better preserved.
Anyway, it is close to Agra fort. Take a rikshaw and you'll pass a bustling market where you'll see unbelievable things from people selling everything, over the street hairdressers to street dentists.
In the middle of that chaos you'll climb few steps and reach the Jama courtyard. The inside man will guide you through the mosque, similar in design, but much poorer than Delhi's.
At the end he will, of course, ask for the tip and for mosque donation.
Allow 30 minutes.
