Clarks Shiraz is a good place to stay with nice grounds. The rooms are spacious and clean and recently renovated and the hotel is in a nice area . One night we ate at the rooftop Mughal restaurant which was was pretty good and in nice surroundings. The main restaurant was more disappointing and you are probably better off looking elsewhere for dinner. The nearby Riao restaurant is decent enough - we had a lovely butter chicken.

We were six of us doing a road trip from Delhi to Khajuraho to Orcha to Agra and ending in Jaipur.
Clarks Shiraz was the one sour point in a splendid trip. Here's why
1. When asked for a suggestion for restaurants near the hotel, the front desk kept suggesting the in house restaurant (which was very good no doubt). When I insisted on being told about restaurants around I was told that the staff doesn't have the liberty to recommend.
2. The Wi-Fi wasn't free
3. Even if you paid for it, it wasn't working
4. The use of the internet in the Business Centre instead of being offered free in compensation for the non working Wi - Fi was not free.
5. The internet in the Business Centre wasn't working too.
6. The first thing you see in the room is a sign saying what the hotel will "not' do for you.
7. The spoons for the tea and coffee were used and not replaced
8. The bathrooms were smelling like old and socks had been stored in since the Taj Mahal was built.
9. One of our three rooms smelt terribly from stale cigarette smoke.
The saving grace was the Mughal Room restaurant within the hotel.
Definitely not recommended.
I've stayed at the Taj Group's Hotel on the previous three occasions I was in Agra and I regretted not doing the same this time.

Two nights stay here, close to Taj Mahal , Very good never been in a big hotel like it before, we go for small. We had a top floor very large room with very large bed ( fit about seven of us in ) ,everything you need plus slippers & dressing gowns, complementry large & small bottle of water each, two mint choc on pillow each night , very clean. This is the only hotel on our trip to India we could really enjoy breakfeast & dinner here.Dinner was a little over priced but we enjoyed. There seem to be about three breakfeast rooms & two dinner rooms, downstairs was buffit style dinner, top floor was better, order what you want. The best hotel we have stayed in anywhere in the world.

Good things - Lots of staff, all eager to please. Very big room which was clean and well kept. Upstairs restaurant setting is very pleasant. Grand reception and main lobby areas. Good value for money and location close to the sites of Agra without being on the noisy main road.

Bad things - Bathrooms are horribly dated and need urgent refurbishment. Food in all restaurants very bland and a total 21% service charge in the upstairs restaurant for dinner is ridiculous for what is average food.....not convinced that you can see the Taj from the restaurant either (as is advertised) due to the Taj not being lit up in the evening and the smog in the day preventing you from seeing further than a couple of hundred meters.

Overall - enjoyed our stay at Clarks. This hotel is no longer 5 stars but is good value for money and with a little bit of updating and some new chefs could once again be a top hotel.

The staff was very rude at first, when they couldn't find our booking, but after that was settled we got a suite, b/c the hotel was fully booked, so it was all for the best! The hotel was clean, but the lobby smelled like disinfectant. It was quiet, away from the . The hotel is rather big, and has an outdoor pool, and a small garden. Breakfast wasn't too good, but they had someone making you scrambled eggs on the spot.
