“Don't stay here!”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

I stayed here two night on April 18th and 19th.
First the food: I found a hair almost in every meal I had. Food is average. Don't try the ketchup, it tastes as if it had soap in it.

I stayed in one of the rooms underground and the smell coming from the tubes was unpleasant. The towels looked dirty and they provided no water in the room. If you want drinkable water, you need to pay for it.

The worst: They charge you 100 rupees for an hour of Internet, and 500 rupees for 12 hours. That is a shame in India, where you can find free wifi almost everywhere if you buy a sim card. We were a group of 30 persons, and besides asking kindly for a discount on the service, they didn't do anything to solve it. When we were leaving, they asked us to fill a feedback note, and almost everybody agreed to fill it. When we returned it, they read them and started to laugh about us.
They have a pool, but after washing my teeth with the water from the room, and tasting it, I wouldn't want a single drop of that water in my mouth again.

Stay away from this hotel. Look for other options near the Taj.

Room Tip: If you can help to stay here, DON'T choose the room in the lower floor. They stink!

We stayed here for one night whilst visiting the Taj Mahal. The reception area is nice, but the rooms are poorly kept and there is only one very tiny slow lift to the upper floors. The drainage pipe from the bath tub in one of our rooms was not connected properly and the bathroom flooded as a result. We reported this during the afternoon. On returning to our hotel in the evening we were informed that it had been fixed, but it had not. Indeed it was quite clear that nobody had even been up to see it as the towels that we had put on the floor to soak up the flood were undisturbed and the staff had not even put fresh towels in the room. We were glad that we were only staying the one night.

My daughter and I stayed 3 nights in this 3-star government approved hotel that was booked for us by our tour agency. It is centrally located in Agra which made it convenient for sightseeing. (http://hotelamar.com - Phone +91 - 562 – 233-1884 to 89). However, ambiance was seriously lacking.

Our room was starkly modern with décor that was a bit garish for my taste – neon signs and brightly colored designs painted onto glass light panels in one area of the ceiling. Wi-fy was not free – charges were by each half hour. No free wi-fy was a deal-breaker for us. We liked go go through our tablet each night to update our photos.

The cable service for our room’s TV never did work, in spite of several calls to management. No programs in English. We enjoyed watching local news during our stay in India and this was a disappointment.

Complimentary breakfast were so-so. Not much in the way of Indian dishes. The lobby was welcoming and nicely decorated. People behind the front desk were a bit distant and not particularly helpful. I would recommend choosing another hotel for your stay in Agra.

We stayed here for one night in March 2014.

Room was okay, desk staff weren't exactly inviting. Hallway stank of smoke.

We were disappointed to have to pay for wifi 500 Rupees for 12 hours is ridiculous for India.

On the plus side the pool was nice and staff by the pool were lovely, the food was also good and the shower was hot and powerful.

Would I stay here again? No, probably not.

hotel amar is a good hotel little bit costly but staff is very polite. It is at good location nearly 1.5 kms from Taj.Its spa is very good light is 24 four hours hot and cold water also available. The rooms are well done but feel a bit claustrophobic because of completely sealed windows and stone walls in the rooms. The restaurant food was quite good.

Location is walkable from TAJ MAHAL, nice experience to visit TAJ. Hotel is very average, bed given was two single beds connected, bathroom was not clean, room service is very poor.

I have also taken the cab from same hotel to Fatehpur sikri, driver has full links with all guides and not cooperative. I really regret on hiring cab from the hotel.

Like most hotels in Agra, Hotel Amar is ideally located near the Taj Mahal. The rooms are well done but feel a bit claustrophobic because of completely sealed windows and stone walls in the rooms. The restaurant food was quite good.
