To begin with, the place had a character to it which was great. The location was in a quieter area of Agra and the lawns were huge. The rooms were decent (though the bed sheets were brownish and the TV belonged to a bygone era). The staff was helpful and since I was with my 10 month old son, we made them run a lot. We had a MAP package and sincerely feel that the food needs a lot of improvement.

MY EXPERIENCE OF THE GRAND HOTEL:

This 70 room hotel is situated about 5 kilometers from the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort in the very well maintained Army Cantonment area of Agra. The area is clean, safe and peaceful and a ten minute walk to the bazaar. The hotel is over priced.

The rooms are very large and have a queen size or two twin beds, TV, fridge/bar and in-room heater. Hot water from the central boiler flows freely after the tap is opened for a few minutes. The washroom/toilette is also quite large and well laid-out. The rooms to the left of the reception area seem to be better than the more exposed single line of rooms on the right side of the reception. The lawns are well maintained.

The Restaurant food was over-priced and had lots of MSG and commercial tomato sauce. I recommend eating elsewhere though it was difficult to find hygienic alternatives in the vicinity.

Service was VERY poor. I asked for a 6.30 am wake-up call which never happened. I asked that my room NOT be cleaned as I did not want anyone entering my room but when I came back from sight seeing my room had been cleaned and the key had been left in the lock so anyone could have stolen my stuff! This is simply unacceptable.

The extra Rs. 400 charge for internet access is simply absurd as similar hotels in India and even student hostels in other parts of the world provide free internet access.

The travel desk run by Nikhil Tours was helpful. Contact Shasi Kant at 91- 9897099038. But DO bargain prize down at least 25%

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE GRAND HOTEL:

The location, large rooms and cleanliness. The owners live on the same property but I had no time to meet and discuss my concerns.

The Travel Desk.

IMPROVEMENTS:

Staff must be better trained. The owners should personally address guest concerns. No MSG or commercial tomato sauce should be used in the food.

THINGS TO DO:

Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Deyal Bagh, Sikandara. Car hire for two half days should not be more than Rs. 1,400 including parking.

Room Tip: Request a room on the left side of the main reception area

In such a cold weather, the hotel had no hot water in bathrooms,we had to struggle very hard for getting hot water which otherwise should have been there just for turning the taps.Non availabilty of hot water made our stay very uncomfortable. But for this hotel is very good propert.

We were here for one night only on a package tour with a car. We did not choose the hotel, but it was fine for just one night. The room was very roomy and clean. The hotel restaurant was pretty simple, but had friendly service. We were there during Christmas holiday and it was full and very noisy. Several schools were there with a busload or two of students. The hotel is far from any of Agra attractions, but an OK place if you have a car.

Bad service at the reception, horrible rooms, cold and dirty. no hot water and their breakfast was terrible! the hotel is so dirty, and is falling apart. This hotel was booked through my travel agent and i asked for their rates and it was way over priced for the setting.
It really ruined my experience in Agra

I never expected that I will get this kind of property at the price we got. Of course, thanks to the hotel but thanks to tripadvisor.com.

The only NEGATIVE per se was the greedy attitude of the staff of the hotel. They would simply not leave till you tip them. They kept making some kind of excuse (showing the bathroom, how the tap works etc etc) to stay till they get their tip.

Nonetheless the rooms were neat (linen, curtains, bathroom everything), big and comfortable/non-suffocating.

It was a full family trip to Agra to see the Taj in fool moon light and we booked three rooms and no one complained about the rooms. In fact we got one extra bed also for an extra member.

Yes the buffet breakfast was little disappointment (a little) but I won’t complain as the price we got was awesome.

I would still say that don’t book this hotel as per the rates shown on the hotel website, go through tripadvisor.com.

Regards,
Raj

Room Tip: Dont go by the tariff displayed on the hotel website. Go by tripadvisor.com and trust me you wont co...
