Very basic hotel with rooms and corridors that have seen better days. The first room we were given the door handle fell off - but to their credit they changed us pretty quickly.

Neither of these rooms had any topsheets on the bed with only a very scratchy fleece blanket. It was so scratchy my wife slept under a towel rather than the blanket and we're not fussy generally but it was particularly uncomfortable. Noisy throughout the night too

The only reason this hotel wasnt given "poor" is because you get an amazing view of the Taj Mahal from the roof terrace. Plus you are maybe 500 metres from the East Gate entrance so for a 5:30am walk to be 10th in queue for the openieng saved it from the "poor" but it was pretty close.

Room Tip: Dont bother paying extra for a Taj View room - just get up to the roof terrace and get a better view...

The Taj east gate is the best access - it is the cleanest and the best managed entry/exit point so if you want to stay the night close to the east gate and not pay a few 10s of thousands in Oberoi Amar Villas, you aren't spoilt for choice.

Staying close to the east gate makes sense if you want to visit the Taj at Sunrise.

Given that, the Taj Plaza is located fairly close to the gate and the ticket counters. The rooms are basic and the service barely passes the muster. The stairs are steep but if you can climb them, some of the rooms on the higher floors have a very good view of the Taj.

So I would recommend this place for the budget traveler who just needs a pit stop for the night close to the Taj.

Room Tip: Higher floors with a view of the Taj

This place is not great. Lots of stairs up to the room, the ac sounded like a generator, frosted window and when opened no view what so ever, loud awful music until late that sounds like a 5 year old learning to play the accordion. Staff bring food up to your room with accentuated brow wiping and panting in hopes of bigger tips.
The only good points are that the food is good and you can see the taj from the rooftop restaurant.

We stayed here for one night. Bear in mind we did ask for the cheapest room at this hotel (still more expensive than guest-houses we stayed in); the first room we were given was dirty and had clearly not been given to guests in a long time so the staff insisted we moved to another cleaner room. It was fairly run down but was clean enough for a night stay. The staff were helpful and friendly. The communal areas were all clean and fairly modern. An okay place for a night in Agra. I would rather have gone to a guest house up the road, on reflection. The Taj ticket office is within 2 minutes walking distance and when you buy the ticket there is a free bus for the 500m to the Taj entrance.

Room Tip: If you want a nice room, don't get a cheap one.

booked online. found no lift/elevator on the hotel and understood that cleartrip.com had taken me for a ride. so i had to be content with a non a/c room (# 102) on the ground floor and was given no refund and poor room service. no drinking water was supplied. bath had no geyser. only one towel for two guests. smelly room. filthy, poorly ventilated toilet. expensive onsite restaurant. feeling let down.

Infrastructure and location is good. However, the rooms are not very clean and the bathroom too. Food is very expensive with low quantity and average quality. The best part of the hotel is its price and location.

This hotel has a prime location on the East gate side of the Taj Mahal with splendid views of same from the rooftop terrace and restaurant. It is bookended by newer and far more expensive hotels, so for much less you get the same view. The hotel and our room was very clean, the service was attentive; in fact excellent. Thanks to Neena for a clear and professional check in. After reading earlier reviews I was reluctant to book here. But we had a simple no A/C room and our experience was excellent. The area around the hotel is very quiet and calm. The hotel has no lift, so stairs can be an issue, but the staff will take your bags to your room. Wifi is available, but the signal was weak in the room and on the terrace, but ok in the common areas. The food was very good, and reasonably priced, pleasant staff and a congenial manager. We found the beer a tad expensive at 220, but could have chosen not to drink one or get one from the beer store just down the street.
