“A great choice for Varanasi”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

My wife and I stayed here for about a week in late April 2014, and we would certainly recommend it. The management was prompt and courteous in their correspondence with me via email before arriving, and they conveniently arranged a taxi from the airport for us, as well as a taxi to Mughal Serai train station for our departure, too. I'd read a lot of reviews of Varanasi hotel managers being rather pushy in selling their guests tours, boat rides, etc., but the Kedareswar guys politely and briefly outlined their prices for such services upon check-in and left it at that. No pressure. Overall, the staff was friendly, polite, and unobtrusive, and we enjoyed the simple but hearty breakfasts they served up on the top-floor terrace of the hotel overlooking the Ganges, Chowki Ghat, and the area just north of Kedar Ghat, too.

The location was another plus for us. The hotel is right on the river, but it's a bit south of the hectic activity of Dashashwamedh Ghat, so we felt like we got a little bit of a break from all of it upon returning at the end of the day. As others have said, it's about a ten minute walk up the river along the ghats to Dashashwamedh and the heart of the old city. The hotel also sits right in front of a small but lively street that connects to the Bengali Tola and the fascinating surrounding neighborhoods where there are loads of shops, temples, and the like to explore. You're also just a bit less than half-way to Assi Ghat, too--maybe a 15+ minute walk along the ghats.

The room itself was clean and well-kept, and the AC unit was new and worked well--an important feature given the season! We were, of course, limited by the unavoidable power outages that are a fact of life in India this time of year, but there was back up power for at least a ceiling fan and some lights, and AC was always available at night when we slept. The bathroom was spic and span, and although we never used it given the heat, there seemed to be ample hot water available.

Overall, a great midrange choice for Varanasi. If you're hellbent on getting something super cheap, you can certainly find it elsewhere in Varanasi, but if cleanliness and comfort are high on your list, Kedareswar is a great value and well worth a few hundred extra rupees. The staff is really kind and do their best to make you feel at home.

We spent 5 nights at this wonderful bed and breakfast and would recommend it to anyone visiting Varanasi. It's a little more on the expensive side but we quickly learnt that you generally get what you pay for in Varanasi! It's well worth spending a few more dollars for a clean, comfortable guesthouse with lovely staff. We found that Varanasi could be quite overwhelming at times, so it was important to have a safe haven to retreat to from the heat and general Chaos.

It is a nice base that's extremely central to explore the Ganges. Or even just to enjoy the goings-on from the privacy of your own balcony.

Room Tip: I would strongly recommend a Ganges view room on the second floor.

This is lovely spot. It sits right above the Kedar ghat. The terrace is open from 06:30 for breakfast and offers a lovely view over the Ganges and along the ghats. Some of the more expensive rooms have Ganges views.

The rooms are nicely decorated and very clean.

Staff is friendly and helpful and can organise trips at decent prices.

Room Tip: The A/C+Ganges view room is the most expensive, but definitely the nicest. See the B&B website f...

This B&B is run by four hard working brothers who provide a clean place to stay right on the Ghats. Each morning they serve a complementary breakfast on the roof of the hotel which provides a magnificent view of the Ganges. These wonderful people are courteous, helpful and accommodating and the location is perfect for those who wish to experience all Varanasi has to offer. The evening's Aarti ceremony is only a ten minute walk away. We would definitely stay there again and highly recommend Kedareswar as THE place to stay in Varanasi.

5 of us had to find a place on the fly in the middle of our trip in India. We were lucky to find this gem of a guest house. It is located in the heart of old Varanasi with views overlooking the Ganges.

Mintu - the owner and manager was terrific. He was kind, helpful and accommodating...easily arranging boats to cruise the Ganga for the evening and at dawn. When someone in our party asked about an authentic Hindu dance show, he arranged for us to see one that evening!

Since this part of Varanasi is essentially a maze and one can easily get lost, Mintu assigned a young man, Sunnu, to be our guide. He took us to ATM's, tailor shops, restaurants, the traditional dance show...anywhere we needed to go. Sunnu was so patient - trying to accommodate the needs of 5 Americans. This was an unexpected but greatly appreciated & wonderful service provided to us.

Three of us shared a triple room which was spacious and had terrific views of the Ganges. It was quiet and allowed a restful sleep. The private marble-lined bathroom was VERY clean. Breakfast was served on a rooftop terrace where we could enjoy watching monkeys at play or the slow process of life on the Ganges. The menu had a nice selection to choose from. Since they don't serve lunch or dinner, we were referred next door to the Lotus Garden - a wonderful spot for lounging the afternoon away. It is run by a German woman so it is very clean and has a wonderful selection of light foods...and we ate the fresh salads without any ill effects to follow!

We were there at the end of November. The triple room was about 50USD per night. For that price, this was an unbeatable value - as the cleanliness and comfortable beds were MUCH appreciated, not to mention the wonderful hospitality and service. Thank you, Mintu!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Ganges

This isnt the cheapest place to stay at £28 a night for a Ganges view with balcony and breakfast but it was clean and welcoming.

You have to walk from the road to the hotel via the narrow lanes. I didnt like the lanes at all and was glad to get out of them whenever I ventured on to them.

Mintu and his boys are very obliging and actually showed me where various things were instead of simply directing me there.

The room was large and clean, with comfortable beds, clean linen. Monkeys visit the balcony so dont have one if you dont like them, they can be a bit aggressive in their search for food, but they didnt bother me. Bathroom is very small with nowhere to really put your toiletries - just needs a shelf but it does the job, plenty of hot water.

Its a B&B so no evening meals but a lovely restaurant just up the road/lane/ghat.The Aarti ceremony is a casual 10 minute stroll away along the ghats. The main road is a 5 minutes through the lane.

Its nothing special, no frills but great location, clean and friendly. I would definitely go back and would recommend,
