As this place is sacred, many tourists like us are a bit skeptical to approach since we have no idea of the rules and norms of this place. Yesterday my girlfriend and I walked to the ghat and immediately was harassed by wannabe guides, and hustlers. Since the place is holy we did not want to offend anybody, nor did we want to fall into the hands of the hustlers, so after staying around 2-3 minutes we left. Since we didn't know where it was okay for us to stand ground. Next day we hired a guide, and things were much better, we were able to get much closer and explore the ghat without any hassle. Also now that the water is high, there is a good view from the another ghat next door. Place is surreal, but the hassle is annoying which is why we gave a 3 stars.

If you are an Indian then I would suggest there is no point on going to this place. Since childhood one has seen a lot of cremation. But still if you want to experience the ambiance, you can go. But make sure yo don't photograph anything against people's will
