“Get the museum act going”
Reviewed 24 January 2013

India is challenged when it comes to museums. A plus is that you can bring your camera in for a modest extra charge. So my I-Pad I can bring in but my I-Phone has to be placed in a locker at no charge. But I saw others talking on their cell phone in the galleries. The guards are either asleep in chairs or actually speaking so loudly that it is hard to enjoy the experience. We need a college of art security established at Banaras University. Some galleries had the floodlights turned of making it hard to see the exhibits but others were on. It would be nice if there was more information about the individual exhibits. The art is interesting especially the palm leaf paintings and the ancient stone sculptures. I think that the experience is worth it and Banaras University, the location of the Bharat Kala Bhavan, is a green refuge from the city. It is a bustling campus, one of the largest in Asia, and should be seen. Restrooms are located just outside. Food vendors are located half a kilometer away at the Shri Vishwanath Mandir.

“Little disappointed”
Reviewed 26 December 2012

This was one of the main reasons for me to visit Banaras, but I was little disappointed to see not so great collection. The gallery that showcases handwritten notes of major Indian literary and national figures is the best. Sculptures are good but not documented. Banaras gallery showcasing the masks could be better. Staff was very rude and un-cooperative.
