I stayed in this hotel for 2 separate nights on a stop over from Delhi to Singrauli, and Singrauli back to Delhi. Yes, the rooms are tired but were clean, the staff pleasant and courteous, and the all round service good. I would have no hesitation in recommending this establishment to my friends and colleagues for a short stay

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the road if possible. Being India, the noise from the hooting cars is al...

The hotel was adequate for the one night stop we had in Varanasi. We had rain the afternoon we arrived and not sure if this was a factor but the room felt damp and a little musty. However, the staff were efficient and very helpful. .

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights at the end of November following a 2 week tour of northern India. The staff at the hotel were extremely courteous and helpful throughout our stay - particular thanks to Mr Divesh Pathak - I wish all hotel managers were as good as him! During our stay there were some large groups staying at the hotel and one evening they held a wedding in the grounds (as do most hotels at this time of year), so things tended to get quite busy, but the staff worked hard to make sure that this never affected our stay. The food was generally excellent - like most places these days there was a buffet on for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but they also have a very extensive a la carte menu which was always available without much delay - they served some of the best food that we had on our trip. This is not the plushest hotel that I've stayed in - some areas such as the pool felt a bit dated and could do with a freshen up, some of the wiring on the lamps in the room looked a bit unsafe and we had to ask the staff not to use their overpowering air freshener during our stay - but the rooms are very comfortable and a good size and ours even had a table and chairs so that we could enjoy a meal in our room. At the end of the day, you don't come to Varanasi to stay in your hotel room - you just want a safe, friendly and comfortable place to sleep and eat and the Clarks more than meets that.

We had a suite, Room 126, separate bedroom and living area. Clean and comfortable. Restaurant food was very good and the service was also excellent. Perhaps since we were not part of a group, we received top notch service in the dining room. Unlike other TripAdvisor postings, our restaurnat at the Clark in Varanasi, was crowded with European tour groups.

Weather was not conducive to swimming pool use, but the cloudy water was a bit of a turn off.

Divesh Pathak, the Duty Manager, was always asking us if we were happy with our accomodations, which we told him, absolutely.

I'm certain there are other hotels that are comparable or better, but having spent nearly a month in India, we found the Clark to be one of the better properties.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a suite. Room 126. Not sure of the price differential, but it was worth it. Ou...

Of the six nights we spent in northern India in October, 2013, the Hotel Clarks Varanasi was not the high point. The lobby smelled of insecticide and the room, although basic but comfortable, had a musty smell. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and accommodating, which was easy as there were very few guests at the hotel. We had alerted them of our checkout the following morning, but the whole process must have taken 15 minutes because their fax line was down. This was clearly beyond their control and they were very pleasant. But rating this hotel four stars is an over-statement.

I was with a tour group that was bumped from the Taj hotel and placed here. The hotel looks nice on the surface, but does not come close to meeting expectations. Rude argumentative staff, dangerously narrow bathtub floors and inconsistent air conditioning were only a few of the problems. Find a different hotel.

The restaurants on-site offer ample choices from North Indian to international dishes and even popular street food dishes. After a long day exploring Varanasi on foot and in rickshaws, a quick dip at the hotel pool is sure to be refreshing.
