“NOTHING LIKE ADVERTISED!!”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

This hotel was absolutely nothing like what you see advertised on the website or any other pictures found online. When we arrived there were a few very confused staff members surprised to see us. We had booked on agoda and pre paid unfortunately, but when we mentioned this they didn't even have a computer to refer to our booking. The lobby of the hotel was dark cold and very dirty, appearing as if it had it's glory 30 years ago. After being showed to our "super deluxe" room which was equally cold and dirty we didn't even want to open our bags. We stayed for roughly an hour before picking up and leaving to change hotels. I paid over $100 for a 2 night stay and the condition of the hotel was still poor enough to leave and go somewhere else.

Room Tip: Don't stay here!

This hotel has so many faults it would take a novella to address them all, but I shall give a summary.

Firstly to get to the hotel is in itself an adventure if you are in a "tourist taxi" and not a private car. Since we are traveling in a tourist taxi, it was not permitted to come onto Camel Back Road to drop us off. Our driver found a place to park and negotiated with a man to get our baggage carried to the hotel. The fellow had a rope that he laid down onto the ground, added the suitcases, ties it up over his back and off we trekked. It was about 530pm, nearing dark, pouring rain and the temp had plummeted. Not a great start!

We finally reach the hotel and climb several steps to get into it. Once inside we note that the place is dark and cold. We ask for towels to dry off and they were given. The registration process took forever as they did not have us listed in the diary, and as foreigners we needed additional paperwork to be completed.
After half an hour, we finally climb several stairways to get to the room. It was a filthy, and dark closet with no view whatsoever.

We requested to be moved to a room with a view, which we were. The view is quite nice of the mountains and valley. The room itself was once again filthy. The duvet cover was stained with unidentifiable items. The bathroom had not one clean spot in it. Given we had no real choices for the night we accepted the room. We called down for toilet paper, soap, bottled water and glasses. We were told there was no toilet paper, but they did find a roll for us somewhere. Bottled water was not given as they use a reverse osmosis unit for the water supply. The glasses needed to be wiped out before use. On the second day we asked again for cold water, and lo and behold they had cold bottled water.

Since dinner was required, we tried to order a few things off of the menu card in the room to be told that it was not available. When the food finally did come, it was substandard at best.
To order coffee or chai is an experience as well. There are 2 people wanting at least 2 cups of hot liquid each. They bring a flask that is half filled that does not offer 1 full cup each.

Since we were on a trip with Make My Trip.com our options were limited, and we had 2 nights booked here.

The second night we also ordered in dinner. On the menu the time allotment that they require is 30 minutes. But, when we called to order we were told they did not have what we wanted and what they did have would take at least 90 minutes to come.

There is not one thing nice that I can find to say about this place. We have traveled the globe, and in all of our stays, this is the worst ever.
If there was a minus rating to be given on this property, it would be given.
Do yourselves a favor and avoid the experience.

As a side note as per present rules taxis are not allowed on the Mall road/ Camel Back Road.
We were not made aware of any of this at the time of our bookings. Please check for the updated rules for this.

I booked through Expedia. They still haven't refunded my money. The room had mold and the sheets were dirty. I called Expedia and asked for a refund before looking around for other rooms. I finally shifted to a different hotel. STAY AWAY!!

It still maintains that old world charm. The newly built rooms are also quite gels with the old block.
The land scaping or design of the structure is noteworthy. It is a shade different from the other Hotels in town.
As we travelled in a taxi, and they are not allowed to the city centre where the hotel is situated ( to avoid crowd in that tiny area) we had to walk about a kilometer from the check point. Appreciate if Hotel would provide a shuttle car to the check point (private cars are allowed by the local administration while taxis are not allowed.)

Food was tastey and clean. staff were polite and helpful.

As this is in the heart of the town, all shops are at at a stones throw. In fact I was surprised to find the kind of big brands who have exclusive outlets in a small town like Mussorie !!
