Five stays at VKS says something about how much we love it here. This is not a hotel but a private villa tucked away in the village of Sukawati which is a living, breathing, genuine Balinese village. Nothing touristy here. The markets are a short walk away and for a true peek into actual Balinese life, you must go shopping before dawn some morning. The villa is conveniently located close enough to Ubud and environs but also gives you great day trip access to the volcanoes up north, all the glorious temples nearby, the beaches of Sanur and even reasonable access to the craziness of Kuta and Seminyak if you need it. Each room(there are three, including the owner's unit) are situated in stunning landscape around a common pool. There are shared dining, exercise, spa pavilions as well. The staff is absolutely wonderful, accommodating and really tough to say goodbye to at the end of your stay. Breakfasts are included and made to order. Lunch or dinner can be arranged in advance. Daily linen service with housecleaning as well as nightly turn down. We will be back.

Aside from the comfort, picturesque environment and pleasant staff, the place is an oasis in the middle of real everyday Balinese life. You leave the gates and you bike or walk into peasant villages with rice fields and see the rustic life. Villages are on one side, a town with a market on the other. If you come to Bali for the waves, the beach, and the sun, Kusuma Sari is an essential a few day escape from those to become exposed to a different reality and have a pleasant stay in the shade of its trees and pavilions

My wife and I were at Kusuma Sari before... for the most romantic holiday every... In the middle of local Bali lies this treasure resort. We have seen and been places, but this little magic place beats all. The staff is wonderful, polite and goes the extra mile. The site is magical looking out over the local rice fields, a little river and the mystic environment of Bali. The bungalows were divine and the whole place is full with amazing local art work and sports a gorgeous wild garden. MUST SEE, HAVE TO EXPERIENCE!

Kusuma Sari is a lovely villa with every possible amenity. Each bedroom is in its own building. Terrific swimming pool. Great massages every day. Wayan oversees the outstanding staff which unobtrusively meets your every need or desire. The food is excellent and beautifully presented. Wayan is available at all times to drive you to the many wonderful sites around Bali. For my son and daughter-in-law's anniversary, the staff covered their bedroom in rose petals and Wayan brought a gamelan orchestra and wonderful dancers to make it a special occasion. I recommend the villa without reservation.

We were picked up at the airport by Wayan who made us feel very welcome to Bali. Wayan has travelled alot outside of Bali, so his knowledge of English and parts of the world is very good. On arrival at Kusuma Sari late in the evening after about 40-60 minutes in the car we were met by some of the staff at the villas. The compound was lit beautifully to highlight the wonderful plants and water features. The main villa is enormous with a lovely large double four poster bed and a separate sitting room with large tv and loads of dvds. The main eating area is by the kitchens and there is a real family feel to the place. The food is freshly cooked and delicious. There isn't very much western food apart from pizza (we didn't come to Bali to eat Western food) but the breakfasts are mainly Western and loads of it! The pool is lovely and the end of the pool just looks straight into the countryside, trees and paddy fields in the distance. This isn't a good setting for families with toddlers (unless you keep a constant eye on them) because, being set on the side of a hill, there are lots of different levels and small ponds. It is a short walk from Gianyar market where you can buy loads of different things from wooden hand made products to clothes, jewellery and food. It is alot cheaper than Ubud but maybe not as 'upmarket'. As you walk to the village people are very friendly and will stop and chat to you and you get a real feel for the area. This isn't a place for people who expect Hilton style hotels and accomodation with a raving night life it is a place which will leave you feeling like you've really seen the real Bali. If you'd like to go on day trips Wayan or his colleages will drive you for the day. We didn't try the spa facilities so we can't comment on those. We've been twice and recommended Kusumu Sari to friends who also had a really lovely time there
