“In the middle of nature”

We stayed in one of the villa's for three nights and had a wonderful stay. The staf was very friendly and helpful. Meals are served in the villa if you want. The villa it self is beautiful. It has two stocks and two terraces with view on the jungle and swimmingpool. It's about 10 km from Ubud but transport can be arranged easily. From Puri Saron we arranged a bike tour with Bali Breeze Tours which we can highly recommend.

I haven't had a habit of writing hotel reviews, but this one finally inspired me to start. I had booked for 4 days, but left after 2.

FIRST, THE GOOD
A remote resort in the middle of a secluded area in central Bali for only 65 usd/night surrounded by rice terraces, many Hindu temples and ceremonies, and friendly faces everywhere. But the airport taxi had to stop 5 times along the way to ask for directions in the 2.5 hr drive to the hotel. While this was disconcerting, people along the way were always able to point the driver in the right direction.

- The staff were generally polite and moderately helpful
- The free shuttle to Ubud was thoughtful
- Dinner was available late at 11:30pm
- Rooms were spacious, huge balcony, much privacy and solitude, great spacing between the rooms
- Beautiful surroundings

CHALLENGES
- Room was moldy and dusty, suggesting inadequate cleaning
- No hot water. It was a struggle and common complaint among other guests
requesting to turn on the hot water. Hotel reception kept repeating to 'let it run for 15 more min' but it rarely got beyond luke warm. My sense was that they only turned it on when guests demanded. While I'm all for energy conservation, there are better ways-- operationally and with respect to guest communication-- to accomplish this.
- Dusty and ill-fitting mosquito net with spiders and cob webs in corners. It was so ill-fitting that it left 4 fist-sized holes at each corner where the corner posts were supposed to fit.
- Creeky bed, and getting on and off would cause more dust to fall from mosquito net giving me allergies
- In the bathroom, they provided a dirty comb that suggested it had been used
- No internet in room, no wifi anywhere. Just a single old computer behind reception area was available when it was not being used for admin tasks
- The only spare outlet was in bathroom, luckily I brought a power strip and unplugged the tv
- The room design was a bit odd. For instance, there was a 2nd door right next to the main door. But the 2nd door had a flimsy lock and it was just as easy and convenient to use as main door. Hence, not great for security. Actually, speaking of security, the room's security deposit box wasn't fully functional (several keys weren't working).
- I'd rate the room as 3 stars if it were clean and well maintained, definitely not 4 stars
- Reception team was generally very nice, but not fully professional and sometimes absent, e.g. filling in their own invoicing forms wrong

This is seriously "The Garden of Eden".
That too had a Man a woman and a serpent. - And a monkey in this particular case.

The hotel is a ruin of what could be a beautiful setting.
It has the promise of an eligant, peaceful setting with unsurpassed views.
And it has............but.
The hotel is miles away from anywhere - even Ubud is a good 30 mins drive at a minimum.

The humidity is serious and the bedding is damp and housed a multitude of insects as we found out very quickly late the first night.
After emptying the contents out of the window - we finally got to sleep even through the constant dripping of the pipe outsde the bedroom into the stagnant water that separates each room.

It is a little piece of history this place but has not really been looked after and needs some care and attention.
Apart from this the vista out to the jungle is magnificent if not awe inspiring, had it not been for the constant chainsaw (day and night) of the local community felling trees in the background.

We actually enjoyed the piece and quiet - just the two of us alone in this piece of Eden and as we paid our bill we agreed that we should return when we are of pensionable age and became too embarressed to show our wrinkles in bathing suits in public.
But that was soon dispensed when the Hotel proprieter tried to charge us almost 10 times the price we had booked the hotel for through the travel agent and promptly produced a copy of the agreed pricing. After a brief discussion he aknowledged his mistake and charged us accordingly.
This was no mistake - just an opportunity you see all around Bali with the local enteprenerism becoming increasing over zealous. I would expect some people have fallen for this over the years.................. unfortunately we will not return.

I stayed at this hotel as a lone traveller, and I mean alone, I had the whole hotel to myself for 4 days, it is a long way from anywhere, but get a driver for the whole day and see the middle of Bali. I also had the most wonderfull experience while I was there, one of the ladies on the desk had a son going to the local primary school (turn left when you walk out the door and onto the next village) she said to visit and I did and even taught them the ABC song. I wouldn't go back to the hotel but I will visit the kid again.

It is not a posh, slick resort. But Puri Saron has a really great location in the country side, a 20-30 minutes drive from Ubud, through pretty rice-terraces to get there and all rooms have a lush view of the trees/jungle. Pool and restaurant are ok. Food is average. We had the pleasure of staying at the 2-bedroom nature villa: spacious, good veranda upstairs and downstairs. Relatively modern design by a Dutch architect. The final execution of the design plans though were not up to standard: it does indeed all look a bit rundown. But the place has a romantic sort of brushed look and feel. And again: the location and fresh quiet nature, away from overcrowded Ubud is wonderful. Just drive to Ubud late afternoon to enjoy dances, drinks and dinner.

We were so disapointed with the room and location. The room was outdated and run down. ( the deluxe room )
We had to leave immediately. The hotel is advertised as being a four star but is far from it.
Don't count on the internet also with the 56k modem !

If you want to be far and away from everything then the hotel can work for you.

Ubud is 30 mins away and if you want a taxi then it will cost you $15 to go there.

A perfect escape from hectic busy and loud city life. You will witness nature nature and more nature here. Dream rooms with amazing Spa. If you are a non veggie food will be great. The Rose wine of Hoteland fantastic. The whole hotel in itself is a tourist spot . Bet you wont be willing to roam in Bali..
