“Chose Flower Bud only if you are committed to Balangan Beach!”
Reviewed 20 March 2014

Stayed at Flower Bud with my wife from 15 - 17 March 2014.

The good things:
- nice, hut type accommodation.
- Clean rooms and nice open wash room.
- Great proximity to the Balangan beach which is a very very beautiful beach.
- Friendly staff. They let me take printouts of my boarding pass.
- Good wi fi connectivity.

The negatives for which I do not blame Flower Bud (since I had read adequate disclosures while booking the place):
- No AC in the rooms. It was pretty hot during the day time and I grossly missed an AC. The fan that was provided was barely effective.
- The beach and the hotel really takes a while to reach through long, desolate winding roads. You cannot get out Balangan if you do not have a vehicle. We were not carrying an International Driving Permit and so had no option but to hire a chauffer driven vehicle. Taxis are fairly expensive in Bali.

Some more negatives that I blame the hotel for :
- We had lunch at the hotel and ordered a chicken curry which was really bad. We couldnt finish the dish. We had read a few positive notes about their food menu but after our experience, decided against having any more lunch / dinner at the hotel
- Breakfast is basic with tea / coffee, juice, a fruit plate and some breads. No eggs or any other muffins!
- The hotel provided only one beach towel to us. Fairly surprising since all their guests would most likely be visitors to the Balangan beach.

I feel the hotel didnt deserve the price I paid. After experiencing the heat, I am not sure if I would like to stay at a place that doesnt have AC.

My three girlfriends and I stayed in Balangan Beach for a relaxing trip away and had a very good experience here. All the rooms are in cute tiki huts and there's a great pool we spent the day at. Once you get used to the fact that the windows are basically thickly thatched screens, there are open areas on top of the windows that cannot be closed, and the bathroom is outside with no warm water, the place is very nice, and honestly, it's easy to get used to those things once you realize how nice everything else at Flowerbud is. The beds are comfortable and protected by mosquito nets so I did not get a single mosquito bite while sleeping. The rooms are clean and the outdoor bathroom is beautiful- you can shower under the stars.

The staff are exceptional. Each staff member was always smiling, very genuine, and willing to help us in whatever way they could. They arranged drivers for us to take us around to the beaches, cabs to go to Jimbaran Beach for dinner, and a driver to take us to Ubud, all at reasonable prices. The Continental Breakfast that was included consisted of surprisingly good pastries, fresh juice, and fruit. Their food in general was very good and cheap we had dinner there twice and lunch.

The Bungalows are a 3 minute walk to Balangan Beach and were also very close to other great beaches in South Kuta- we had the driver take us to Dreamland Beach, Bluepoint Beach and Padang Padang Beach, before going to Uluwatu, all of which were within 15 minutes or so of each other. Jimbaran Beach is only about 20-30 minutes away.

The staff and service make this Flowerbud a memorable place to stay so I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a beautiful and friendly experience in South Kuta.

Spent a couple nights at Flower Bud and enjoyed our stay a lot. The grounds are lush and beautiful and the pool is a decent size. The bungalows are clean and pretty but do not have AC. Washrooms are nice as well, though they are outdoors which can sometimes lead to ants invading your toiletry bag. Their restaurant is very good - we ate here a couple times even after we left the resort. Try the spicy prawns and avocado salad for dinner, and the yoghurt bowl for breakfast. They have great WIFI as well! We enjoyed our stay here but needed to relocate to the resort next door because they booked our room to another family before we asked to extend our stay. We ended up moving to Brothers Bungalows next door. Both options are so lovely, though Brothers is quite a bit less expensive and comes with a free 20 minute massage.

Great stay!!! We read recommendations on tripadvisor and we cannot be happier staying here! Each bungalow is a typical Balinese bamboo/wooden structure... The calm and quiet surrounding really help us relax. The included breakfast is good by the beautiful infinity pool overlooking the nice garden&bungalows (not many cafes around but you can choose many warung foods by the beach if you dont mind it). Just a reminder, this place IS NOT anywhere near Jimbaran Bay/ Beach, it is 3 mins walk to BALANGAN BEACH (half an hour to the infamous Jimbaran beach). Best to arrange a pick up as it is a bit tricky to find this place. The driver is friendly and will take you to other beach areas (Uluwatu, Padang, Dreamland, Bingin) unless you are used to riding a motorbike on winding Bali roads. We tried and we got lost several times trying to find this place at night (too dark, street lights are rare!)

This place has traditonal bungalows, meaning: woven rattan walls, wooden floors, no aircon (just fan), no hot water, lots of mosquitoes (they provide mozzy net, sprays & electric repellent), and weak wifi connections (we were there 5 nites, the wifi was broken so only had 2 nites of internet. It is alright thou, it was really a nice relaxing retreat hehe).

After a hot day, we really enjoyed swimming in the cool pool... So relaxing and it is good for laps too. Until now, we are still thinking abt the gorgeous pool... I mean for the price we pay, it was excellent!! Do not miss lying on the beach thou... it's beautiful & good ground for sunbathing.

We stayed at Flower Bud 2 (the newer one) and Flower Bud 1 was being renovated when we were there. Maybe once the FB1 is finished, worth trying as I heard they have better view of the cliff/sunset.

Thanks to all the friendly staff who made our stay comfy!!
Cheers- Craig&Sandra

To start with the positive: the Bungalows are in a really nice spot and the Balangan beach is only a few minutes to walk and a perfect spot for surfing. It´s not so good for taking a swim because there are a lot of very sharp stones in the water. But you can enjoy delicious food at a really small price directly on the beach. If you have a scooter (you can rent one for a fair price at the bungalows) you can take an adventures ride through the countryside and 10 minutes later you´ll be at the famous dreamland beach (good for swimming and surfing). The bungalows are beautiful and the gardens are nice. Now the negative things. During our stay there were several power blackouts resulting in NO power and NO water as the they don´t have a central water supply. Everyday comes a truck with more or less fresh water and the supplys are restocked, but when there is no power the pumps don´t work and you don´t have water in your bungalow. The staff apologized for that but they showed no intention to supply the guest with some bottled water. One time there was no water for about 9 hours. The breakfast is also a bit of a joke and you shouldn´t be hungry. You can have delicious stuff but it all costs extra, no matter if you have booked your room with or without breakfast. We tried to solve this with the staff directly but I´m not quite sure if they even understood what I meant. What you should also know - the Bungalows are far away from the next city. It´s nearly a 20 minute drive through Bali countryside on a very curvy road and some taxi drivers do not even know the place. There´s a small shop outside the bungalows but the prices are much higher than in the city. All in all I wouldn´t go there again.

Really nice place to stay if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Kuta etc. The rooms are nice and they have big outdoor bathrooms. What I liked was the quietness of the place, the food was really good and the swimming pool was amazing. What I didn't like was the fact that it is really far from any supermarket or anything. The beach is really not that great for swimming, is probably better for surfing and the road leading to it is bad, like ugly and dirty. If you want to go to a swimming beach that is absolutely beautiful and in the same area go to Dreamland beach. Other than that we had a nice time and would recommend it to someone looking for some quiet time.

Room Tip: Rooms seem to be all the same. Flower bud is divided into 1 and 2 with 1 being closer to the beach.

We stayed in Sept 2010 and again in Sept 2013 and we were disappointed on our second visit.
Everything is a bit tired and worn out including the previously enthusiastic staff.
Our shower dripped constantly , the food wasn't as good as it had been in 2010 and it lacked the upbeat vibe of our previous visit.
Having said that, the gardens and pool are lovely and the staff were helpful with our enquiries and requests.
