“Relaxed luxury”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

I stayed at the Longhouse with a group of 8 other girls for my soon to be sister-in-laws hen's week away. Our flight was delayed and we arrived around midnight to find the Chef and the staff had been waiting past their usual knock-off time to welcome us all with big, warm smiles and to ready to serve us a delicious supper.

The villa itself is amazing the photos really don't do it justice, it was so much more than what we all expected! Each room is so perfectly decorated from the artwork to the furniture there are so many beautiful pieces.

The staff in particular Hepy, Ayu and Eko were so amazing and all of us girls already miss them so much! The food was so delicious that we ended up having most of our meals in the villa as the food elsewhere didn't compare, even our very luxurious lobster dinner at the Bulgari Hotel was not as tasty as what Budy our Chef could cook up for us.

We all had the most amazing, relaxing time and we all can't wait to go back to Bali and stay with our friends at the Longhouse.

I would highly recommend the Longhouse to anyone wanting a relaxed yet luxurious get away.

Thanks to all the staff that helped us celebrate Julie's final days as a single woman! I don't think any of us will ever forget the amazing time we spent together at the Longhouse. We hope that you keep the Gerald Butler poster somewhere safe!

I stayed at The Longhouse for 10 days in May with a small group of photographers. It was fabulous! The villa is gorgeous, beautifully designed and appointed, spacious and light. The terrace with an infinity pool, sofas and a stunning view made it hard to leave the villa. As did the food and service. Friendly, courteous and happy to help you in any way, the staff were among the nicest people I have met. Ruddy and Ayu and the entire team made our stay so comfortable that I am spoiled for life!

We left early (very early!) on photoshoots and arrived back late, hot and very sweaty most days and they were always around to help us at whatever time we needed them. The food was outstanding and there is a varied wine cellar. Linda and her husband are gracious hosts and joined us for a farewell dinner.

It was my birthday during our stay and a birthday banner and a beautiful and decadent birthday cake (specially made dairy-free, my preference!)... was presented to me and everyone sang to me. It was very special.

Rooms are all lovely, all different and are as pretty and comfortable as they look on the website.

Excellent and well priced massage and beauty therapists can come to the villa at your request.

I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: They are all great. I stayed in the Java Room which looks out onto the garden and a view beyond the...

That best describes The Longhouse. Built along a rocky outcropping of the Bukit peninsula just south of Denpasar airport (actually in Jimbaran), The Longhouse is the perfect place to relax if you want to indulge yourself while still within striking distance of Bali's many attractions, at least in the southern part of the island. From its perch atop the hill if you look to the left you can watch airplanes take off and land at the airport (without hearing them). If you look to the right, past the Nusa Dua peninsula where the luxury hotels are located, you can see in the background, if the air is not too hazy, the cone of the Gunung Agung volcano. Look due north and you'll see other cones rising above the clouds.

Probably the only disadvantage to The Longhouse is that it adds 20-30 minutes to any trip north to other Bali destinations. But if relaxation is your objective and you're relaxed about hitting all of Bali's many attractions then The Longhouse has a lot to offer. The only hitch is that The Longhouse must be rented in its entirety. Since it sleeps twelve, in six different rooms, this enables groups or families to join in together to share the rental. Renting the house includes the Toyota SUV and driver, holding up to seven passengers at a time (another vehicle and driver can be arranged at reasonable rates), plus the entire staff, including two cooks, a house manager, and several servers and assistants, the latter always ready to provide whatever you need in the way of food or drink, billed to your account, at very reasonable prices. (Taxes make wine expensive, but that's an island-wide problem, not limited to The Longhouse.) Free wi-fi is available. The place is impeccably clean and modern. Staying at The Longhouse is more like staying in someone's home while they're away than like staying in a hotel.

Each room of The Longhouse is decorated in a style appropriate to its name, named after various islands of the Indonesian archipelago (I stayed in the East Java room). The entire house is tastefully decorated with examples of Indonesian, usually Balinese, art and handicrafts. You almost feel like you're in a museum. But no museum I know of has a pool like that of The Longhouse--like the house itself, long and narrow, but immediately at your feet at the edge of the large common room, open to the air, that connects the dining room with the largest of the bedrooms, the Bali room. (Families with toddlers or children under six unable to swim would probably not find this safe, since nothing separates the pool from the edge of the room.) There's also a "media room" with a large flat-screen TV for viewing movies, or meeting for other purposes. It has a bit of a musty smell on entering, but I found I could quickly forget about it.

I stayed eleven days and was sorry to see it end.

Room Tip: The jewel is the Bali room on the top level. Groups will have to fight, or draw straws, to see who...

Dear Merlin 0921,
We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at The Longhouse. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with others in such detail. It was a pleasure to have you as our guest! We especially appreciate your well worded description of our view - which is hard to capture in words or photos.
We know that you did quite a bit of exploring during your visit all over Bali and Bali is quite a big island. There are so many wonderful things to do and see right near us - including the amazing Kecak dance at Uluwatu temple.
Because you were with group of adults, you wouldn't have experienced our pool fence, but we often have guests with young families staying and put it up like a flash if there are non swimming toddlers around. Our staff love children and children love them! In fact, we often set up a paddling pool in the garden away from the main pool to make it easier for the parents and of course, we have a lovely playroom for their use as well.
We do sometimes struggle with our media room but continue to work with our ioniser and ventilation system to overcome a closed in door, but thank you for mentioning it. We will renew our efforts.
Thanks again so much for your very kind review and since comments complimenting our staff. We hope you will come back an visit us again at The Longhouse! Warmest regards from all of us.

We stayed at the longhouse in early January. Based on the photos and the trip advisor feedback I had very high expectations. When we arrived the Longhouse it was even better than the pictures. The staff were amazing, the chef was amazing, the pool and rooms were all amazing. I invited my adult children and thier partners for this holiday (Dad and Mum paid) , it was so good that none of the "kids 24-30" went out for even one night. They all enjoyed just hanging around the pool, eating, drinking cocktails and enloying the view. If you are considering a family get way, a reunion for old friends this is the place to go. We tested the chef and staff every day with strange requests, they hit the mark every time. We tested the driver Ecko with strange requests for places to go and not only did he get us there safely he was able to find us the best places to eat and to look at. Happy and Ayu provide the tag team service that looks after your every need. On our last day we had a family vote and with 100% support we have decided to book again for next year. It was so good that the "kids" have decided that they will pay for themselves. :-) Linda the owner was a fantastic host. Looking forward to 2015.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are spectacular. The two main rooms are huge, two medium sized (large) rooms and tw...

We were fortunate to spend a week here with our extended family. There were 11 of us in total. We had travelled from 4 cities around Australia and New Zealand to get there.

The welcome when you arrive sets the tone for a group of staff who are completely dedicated to making your stay the best they can possibly make it. They really are wonderful and they really care. A total highlight. We will not forget the effort they went to arrange and help celebrate an anniversary, it was stunning.

The villa itself is stunning, the architecture is amazing, it's huge and it really is like having a hotel all to yourself. For me, personally the size was a little daunting and I missed some of the intimacy that smaller properties can provide. It was sometimes a bit crowded in the main living area and not everyone could hang out on the couches at the same time. The views are beautiful, the villa is well located to the airport, kuta and seminyak is about 30-40 minutes drive.

We stayed in the Java room and it was perfect for us, the outdoor bathtub carved out of a single stone is amazing.. The housekeeping was great and laundry disappeared from the basket and magically appeared cleaned and folded! What a treat.

The kitchen turned out some amazing treats and the food was expertly prepared. We took advantage of the facilitated market tour and cooking school, not to be missed.

At times, ( and this may sound trite) it was a bit of a pain having to decide a breakfast time and menu each day, and perhaps having some regular items available for those who decide to sleep in would be a good idea.. having said that, it never occured to me to ask?

While the villa itself is an amazing building, the people who staff are it are for me the highlight.

Dear Kiwinui,
We are all so happy that you had a wonderful time at the Longhouse. Thank you so much for taking the time to review us on Trip Advisor. You are right! If you had decided to come late for breakfast, we would have been happy to serve you when you arrived. It's your holiday after all :) ! It is true that we do have a long list of breakfast choices, from frittatas to breakfast fajitas to traditional English fry ups - some guests just ask us to surprise them each morning - an idea for next time.
We look forward to your next visit and promise that sleeping in is definitely on the menu.
Warm regards from all the staff at the Longhouse!

We had a brilliant time celebrating a birthday. Was met at the airport by the friendly and wonderful driver Eko.

Although the location is a fair way from the beach, the positive is that it is high up and you are presented with breathtaking views of the landscape from the pool area.

The villa itself is tremendous, especially the communal area beside the pool which is really delightful. Ideal for groups of 6-8

The rooms are also lovely, very spacious and nicely presented.

Staff are very friendly and reasonably professional. Aya and Happy did the utmost to service our every whim. Thank you to all the staff.

Small issues are the media room which is not usable due to damp issues, intermittent wi-fi (but this could be an infrastructure issue, not a villa issue), the bathroom towels were tired and there were never enough pool towels provided. All relatively minor issues, but still worthy of comment.

The food served by the villa kitchen was OK.
