My husband, daughter and I stayed at Ayana at a mid-way point in our 3 week holiday with the intention that it would be the relaxing part of our trip. I was a bit apprehensive because my husband and daughter have active rather than relaxing personalities. Ayana changed their attitudes about relaxing on the beach, at the pool, in the spa, etc. None of us were ready to leave after 4 days of pampering ourselves. Pick-up from the airport and check-in both went smoothly. We stayed in deluxe ocean view rooms which were clean, well maintained, nicely appointed and good sized. The grounds were very nice. The pool over looking the ocean is much quieter and is more beautiful than the main pool-there are not many cabanas so unless you get there early there might be a wait. This is a good place to watch the sunset. The private beach is a short shuttle ride and is a beautiful little cove of white sand and turquoise water. There is a long flight of stairs to get down to the beach. The breakfast buffet had an incredible number of options and was the best quality I've had at other 5 star hotels. The Rock Bar is justified as a destination in Jimbaran, the view couldn't be more beautiful and the drinks were good as well. Sami Sami, the Italian restaurant, was good for both lunch and dinner. The best dining at Ayana is at Dava, if you appreciate fine dining, dinner here is a must. The setting is very tranquil, the service exceptional and the food was on par with any fine dining restaurant in the world. My daughter is a vegetarian and wanted to do a tasting menu so the Chef created a personalized menu for her. We had several spa treatments, all of which were great. The changing room and spa rooms were very clean and nicely appointed. The spa staff very professional. We did the aqua message which was something we had never done, it was good but I would opt for a traditional message rather than an aqua message. Some of the stations seemed to focus on one part of the body too long and I had some bruises the next day from the intensity of the jets. We rode bikes, with a guide from the hotel, to the Jimbaran fish market which was a lot of fun. Seeing so many fishing boats anchored in the bay, unloading their catch and then selling in the market was interesting. The hotel is set high on a cliff so getting to the market was easy, the ride back was a little harder/steeper but not too bad. We rode through the busy, crowded streets and other local markets which was a bit scary at times. I would not hesitate to return to Ayana if in Jimbaran.
