AYANA Resort and Spa Bali
Ranked #13 of 58 Hotels in Jimbaran
Reviewed 10 July 2012

My husband, daughter and I stayed at Ayana at a mid-way point in our 3 week holiday with the intention that it would be the relaxing part of our trip. I was a bit apprehensive because my husband and daughter have active rather than relaxing personalities. Ayana changed their attitudes about relaxing on the beach, at the pool, in the spa, etc. None of us were ready to leave after 4 days of pampering ourselves. Pick-up from the airport and check-in both went smoothly. We stayed in deluxe ocean view rooms which were clean, well maintained, nicely appointed and good sized. The grounds were very nice. The pool over looking the ocean is much quieter and is more beautiful than the main pool-there are not many cabanas so unless you get there early there might be a wait. This is a good place to watch the sunset. The private beach is a short shuttle ride and is a beautiful little cove of white sand and turquoise water. There is a long flight of stairs to get down to the beach. The breakfast buffet had an incredible number of options and was the best quality I've had at other 5 star hotels. The Rock Bar is justified as a destination in Jimbaran, the view couldn't be more beautiful and the drinks were good as well. Sami Sami, the Italian restaurant, was good for both lunch and dinner. The best dining at Ayana is at Dava, if you appreciate fine dining, dinner here is a must. The setting is very tranquil, the service exceptional and the food was on par with any fine dining restaurant in the world. My daughter is a vegetarian and wanted to do a tasting menu so the Chef created a personalized menu for her. We had several spa treatments, all of which were great. The changing room and spa rooms were very clean and nicely appointed. The spa staff very professional. We did the aqua message which was something we had never done, it was good but I would opt for a traditional message rather than an aqua message. Some of the stations seemed to focus on one part of the body too long and I had some bruises the next day from the intensity of the jets. We rode bikes, with a guide from the hotel, to the Jimbaran fish market which was a lot of fun. Seeing so many fishing boats anchored in the bay, unloading their catch and then selling in the market was interesting. The hotel is set high on a cliff so getting to the market was easy, the ride back was a little harder/steeper but not too bad. We rode through the busy, crowded streets and other local markets which was a bit scary at times. I would not hesitate to return to Ayana if in Jimbaran.

This is an absolutely stunning resort with world class facilities. Accomodation is absolutely beautiful, all set on many hectares of private Eaden-like grounds. This place has everything one may need to relax and to recuperate. There are a number of swimming pools, and there is also a private beach - although it can be a little tricky for an older person or for someone with bad knees to access as one has to climb a very steep and long staircase. Spa facilities are very good. There are a number of different restaurants with different cuisines - note that there is a small caffee at the spa itself where you can have some delicious things that are actually good for you. Also, if you do forget to pack your sandals:) - there are a few good shops that will sell those sandals to you, as well as sunglasses, small momentos, jewellery, clothing etc. There is even a parfume making class. For those who have the budget, and especially if you are looking for a romantic hide-away, I would strongly recommend staying at a private villa as an alternative to the main hotel - those villas are set away from the main hotel, are private and very well appointed, have a private pool and a private battler, who will take you around the place on a buggy. Staff are genuinely pleasant and friendly, and if nothing else makes your day - their happy smiles definitely will.

Room Tip: Consider private villa if you have the budget

We stayed in a Cliff Villa. It comes with a pool (not heated Unfortunatly) and a butler. The villas are very spacious and one feels like royalty moving around in them. Ours was in the 3000 so it was away form the new construction of 7 new towers and villas that are being built which will add another 115 units one 2 and 3 bedroom units. I am concerned that this will spoil the relaxed and serene atmosphere that has been created here. This place works, the balance is just right. always a pool chair never need to reserve a restaurant table yet the resort was full. such a pity they are maybe going to spoil it with more development. The food and service is exemplary. You will not get any stomach ache from the ice or salads eaten here. I never had cocktails mixed so well. It is not so large that one always has to wait for a buggy the landscaping of the grounds has to be the most beautiful of any resort we have stayed in and we have been to Tahiti and Hawaii. The colors of the flowers and the maintenance is exceptional. I did not expect any resort in Aisa to come so close to a true European standard but Ayana does. Make sure to try the 2 hour aqua thermal baths. Not to be missed go from 5-7 as it has an elevated position. There and thousands of jets placed to cover every muscle in your body and you are directed which way to go though it as it is vast, we almost didn't need to one hour massage after. We loved this resort and Did not want to leave to eat out were were here 6 days and ate in every resturant . Our 7 yr old quite enjoyed the kids club as it is centrally located and well equipped. The only thing that would of made my stay here better would be if they solar heated one of the pools as they have no swimable beach the pools were too cold to enter easily even for our child. They spend so much money on everything else and this would just be so wonderful if they could heat one pool July was fantastic weather too better than Thailand l

Room Tip: From July 2012 I would say ask to be on the far side form the construction. Villas in the 3000 are o...

We stayed just one way in the end of JUn..
Our first impression is : what a huge resort. It tooks us few kilometres just from the enterance gate to the lobby ,, and we were accepted with a GONG and flowers around our necks.
It tooks us a while before checkin. due to high occupancy in this hotel - which is still tolerable.
This hotel has several pools, 3-4 restaurants and a famous Rock Bar.
well.. Some of the bests this hotel offers is:
1. Amazing Ocean Beach pool, very suitable for huneymooners. THe atmosphere was so romantic
2. The Famous ROck Bar. They has elevator to drop the guests , and stay in guests got privilege to jump-in queue..
3. The pools are huge and cold. The kids pools has slide.
4. The breakfast menu was the largest breakfast I ever had! many many meals from local to internationals are very well served.
5. Kids had fun playing with some cute puppies and ducks in kids arena.

Well i didnt have much chance to try to famous aquatic spa :(
BUt it surely needs more than 1 nite to explore this huge resort! lol. Well i enjoyed my stay there.
I wud surely recommend this place!

We had our wedding in Ayana last month, everything was just gorgeous.
we stayed in both hotel and villa, hotel room is well decorated, even the room phone smells good, can you believe it ? the villa is absolutely perfect, we have little pool and place to hang out with friends after our wedding dinner.
Trisna chapel for wedding is so pretty, and all the arrangement for wedding is just beyond my expectation. the wedding planner was just so thoughtful, and delivered my dream wedding.
few of my friends commented my reception is the best food they had for wedding
we have senior people in our group, they just spent 4 days in the resort, there is just so many thing for them to do except the sunbath, they went for massage, private beach, rock bar for drink etc ....

Room Tip: resort view room is on the first floor, you can see the garden. 2nd floor and onward are Jimbaran r...

I know, I know... everyone already said so but this resort really is amazing. I think it's the best resort we ever stayed in. The grounds, gardens, pools (particularly the ocean pool and the river pool at the villa loby) are all amazing and the staff is incredibly friendly (a special Hi! to my friend Trisna at Kisik restaurant). We were travelling with our 5-year-old daughter and within 24 hours, all the staff knew her by name, she was like a little VIP :-)
Watching the sunset at the Rockbar is something you must not miss of course.
Breakfast was the best I ever enjoyed in a hotel/resort. The food choice is simply crazy! And you'll have a chance to taste wonderful fresh tropical fruits (don't miss the mangoustine, it's delicious). Also water is definetely not a problem at Ayana: ice is prepared with mineral water and the staff will give you bottles of mineral water anytime you want.
The only disappointing thing was the ocean view from our room (2309) which was not the best, since you could only see a tiny spot of the ocean... but well, we didn't really care since we were in the room only to sleep and by the way, the bed was really comfy :-)

This is the most beautiful resort I have ever enjoyed. The layout and quality of everything is simply stunning. The many pools are each unbelievable for their view and setting within the most stunning grounds i have ever seen.
We were upgraded to a beautiful club level room with an unbelievable view to the ocean and the resort grounds. The furnishings were perfect and it featured a large luxurious bathroom with separate shower and tub. It was very clean, large and looked brand new.
We had access to the club lounge which was the best aspect of our stay. It has multiple food presentations throughout the day and the offerings are so plentiful and delicious, that you could honestly eat all of your meals and be very full and content with the quality! The other great thing is that they have a full bar that is completely free all day! There are premium liquors and the selection is excellent. I highly recommend booking a club room or paying for the use each day (I believe it is $30-50 per person).
The breakfast buffet is top notch with an excellent selection of a variety of foods. The coconut juice is amazing! The other restaurants are also very delicious! We had food at the pool a couple days and it was also excellent.
We stayed at the St Regis in Nusa Dua for a few days and far preferred Ayana and its location. The beaches are much nicer and Ayana is simply stunning! The Rock Bar is a great place to enjoy the sunset and meet others. You cant beat the location, service and quality of this magnificent resort!

Room Tip: Club rooms are the best!
