“Very good hotel, perfect for a nusa dua visit and Beach dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2010

We stayed here for our last night at Bali. The room is large, clean and nice. We booked a driver in the hotel to go to the surfing beaches in Uluwatu. Very well organized but the driver did not speak well English. In the evening we had dinner on the beach of Jimbaran (walking distance, the hotel is not located at the beach) which was on of the best and nicest dinners we had on Bali! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Jimbaran is a nice place for 1 or 2 nights, but after that I think you will be bored...
I would also recommend you visiting the fish market on the beach, walking distance.
The hotel is near the airport (but no problems with airplane noise) and offers free airport shuttle, which was very handy!

The rooms were large and comfortable. The pool was lovely. The massages are great and very well priced! Good food and breakfast. Attentive, polite and smiley staff. Would come again. Very good value for money. Great if you want a middle of the road place, not backpacker style and not 5 star luxury, just right.

I have left it nearly a year to post my opinion, but I wrote the review the day after my return but due to family tragedy have only managed to post it today. Re-reading it captured my memories of the place that has a very special place in my heart.

Puri Bambu

Booked two interconnecting superior rooms (superior are the only ones with connecting doors). Please note if you have interconnecting rooms, you loose your balcony/patio space.

They picked us up at the airport.
The buffet breakfast was varied and good.
The rooms were clean and big.
The showers worked, good big shower heads with excellent water pressure.
Lovely grounds.
Fab good sized pool but some afternoons sunbeds were hard to come by.
You can borrow pool towels to take down to the beach.
If you like a pummelling my husband says the massage is good.
My daughters pedicure lasted 3 weeks and they managed to do flowers on her little toenails (she is 9 yo)

Beach nearby is lovely, deserted by day (NO HAWKERS – YEE HA) and full of people at night (shipped in all from all over the island) so plenty of atmosphere and places to eat. If you like fish/seafood, you will be in heaven. Lots of choice if you want fish. Food at hotel looked good if you wanted something other than fish – after five days, I did feel a bit “fished out”.

Hotel did not try to “sting” us – they even got us a Bluebird cab when we asked for any old taxi to the Southern Warung (I was expected to be ripped off, after reading other reviews). Beers and food in hotel was reasonably priced – again, no hotel stitch up.

Walk to/from beach at night is busy and needs a torch. Cabs easy to get. Being English and slightly mad, we walked, much to the surprise of all around us.

In summary, if you want a clean functional hotel close to a sandy deserted beach (by day) and busy (at night) this is the place for you.

JIMBARAN BEACH

Did I mention there were no hawkers?

Beach is sandy, but sand is too fine for making sandcastles (important info for kids)
Water is Indian Ocean bath warm water, with unpredictable waves that can look calm then wipe you out seriously. Not swimming for little ones, but fun jumping and great shell collecting. We even saw a baby turtle legging it into the sea.

Yes there are the occasional dead fish around – this is a fishing village foremost. Just walk a few more meters away and all will be good. The birds do a good job of clearing up.

If you want a sun bed, buy lunch or a few drinks and negotiate the inclusion of the beds – they are very half hearted at bargaining – not like the hardy bunch in Kuta.

Not as pushy as Kuta or Seminyak. Jimbaran does smell a bit – the drains do need work, but we only experienced this on the precisely five minute walk (would take adult three minutes) to the beach. In the hotel and on the beach, no problems, no smells, no hassle, just paradise. People genuinely wanted to chat for no particular reason – remember to ask about their family and you will be rewarded greatly.

The hotel is located on a very narrow one way street leading to the beach (about 3 mins walk). Lovely open air lobby with shop, internet, sitting area etc. Staff very friendly and efficient.
We started on a high note as we were upgraded to a Superior room. No 313, right by the courtyard sitting area and not far from the pool. The room was fabulous, very spacious with separate sitting area, large bathroom with over bath shower which wasn't great unfortunately but was a small price to pay and perhaps I'm being a bit picky!!
The swimming pool was fabulous - a lovely light turquoise and very clean with pool side service, swim up bar and lots of sunbeds.
We ate in the hotel resraurant as the establishments on Jimbaran Beach (5 min walk away) were not very nice. They all had very aggressive people out front to entice you in. The first one we came across was playing a song "kill the white man". We didn't patronise his establishment!! The rest of the restaurants weren't much different. Admittedly it was the start of the season so maybe later on it would be a bit more comfortable but for us once was quite enough.
The hotel was super and we couldn't fault the service, food or staff.
We would return in an instant!

Great athmospere, great buffet breakfast, great swimming pool and rooms are fine.
Walking distance from the beach and the restaurant.
Nice time there.
We also tried Abi Bali when we went back to Jimbaran but were very disapointed.

We stayed here for 7 nights in early July 2010.

Location
Puri Bambu is about 10 minute walk (max) to Jimbaren Bay, a fishing village which and it’s about 5km out from the main ‘city’ of Kuta. There is also a supermarket nearby – great for cheap drinks and snacks. The road that leads from the hotel to the beach of Jimbaren Bay is narrow and dimly lit at night, and you should navigate it with care, but the same could be said of any road in Bali. When looking for a beachfront restaurant, head south until you pass the large boat parked on the shore (about 10 minute walk). The handful of restaurants here charge 40% less than those nearer the hotel.

Room
Puri Bambu is a smallish resort of about 50 rooms. We stayed in a standard room (#307) and, although not flash, was quite large, well equipped and kept very clean. We stayed near the back end of the resort. The AC struggled through the heat given the size of the room but helped muffle the sound of roosters who start at some ungodly hour of the morning.

Facilities
The hotel has a great pool with swim up bar. Cocktails are about Rp 50,000 and the massage hut by the pool will set you back Rp 50,000 for a one hour massage and the same for a manicure / pedicure. Puri Bambu offers a reasonable buffet breakfast with minor changes in selection from day to day. The hotel conveniently offers a shuttle service in and out of Kuta three times a day which was fantastic – otherwise, each trip in to Kuta would’ve set us back Rp 50,000 each way by taxi. Internet is charged (Rp 25,000 per hour) and wifi did not appear to be working.

Staff and service
The staff were accommodating, helping us scan a document we needed to email home. One fellow, however, was constantly sounding for his driving services and this became tiresome.

In sum, I’d recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay in a quiet hotel with a great pool but is prepared to head out and explore the surrounding area.
